Subject: Meet a Designer who brings the noise...

This week, David Henry is Breaking In.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Best friends with uncle marty?

I would read it but your blog crashes my browser.

Edit:
Reading now, thanks to Daz.

Experience means nothing by its self, and both talent and experience are useless without a solid work ethic.

Couldn't agree more.

Great job on the Nade launcher! Looking forward to hearing the audio on this next game.

A jazz aficionado with a green thumb, a love for sounds, and a talent for inspiring? I think I'm in love. In all seriousness, this is possibly my favorite Breaking In article so far. Audio design seems so freaking cool.

Audio people have the easiest part in making games. It seems like it.

The page size is pretty big... I wouldn't really blame the browser in this case. It might make more sense to have one interview per page.

EDIT: the link posted above is much better

Thanks, Daz.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I was hoping for someone who could drop the bass.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."
-Nietzsche

I could do that job.

Кланяються мені!

I could see an audio engineer pulling at Marty's strings.

*Marty sound testing another awesome score*
*secretly replaced a section of the score with horrible incoherent noise*
*la la la la la de de daaaah SCREEEEEEEEEEHSSSHHZZZZZZZZZ*
*screams are heard through out studio*
*high fives all around*

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Great read, and you guys should download that Flash-block plugin.

Roll with the hits, not under them.

No, you can't have it. But thanks for asking!

These Breaking In articles are hands down, my favorite part of Monday. I'm glad DeeJ is mixing it up between different disciplines and all the myriad ways people have of finding their way through life. It's interesting to see the way the industry itself is evolving... from big band music to grenade launchers is one heck of a path.

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

It's crazy to think about how new careers are being made everyday. Who knows where the gaming industry will be ten or twenty years from now.

That's awesome! Always loved taking classes with MIDI audio work, though it's useless now. Many hours spent on practicing for 1 credit classes. Being a music major isn't easy ;)
