...We respect what Bungie said, but in my opinion Ensemble Studios, did a good job, <not perfect, not better> than Bungie.

I liked Halo Wars but it felt like it should have been on PC

Same.

I pretty much knew this from the get go. Halo Wars came out in the same year as ODST; although the release dates between the two is months apart. During interviews, whenever Bungie employees were asked about their feelings on Halo Wars, they would simply give vague answers that would turn the focus on ODST.

I'm sure the opinion on Halo Wars was based on individual employees alone rather than the entire studio itself. Bungie pretty much knew their franchise was out of their hands in 2008/2009. And the fact they were working on two Halo games at that moment in time meant that they weren't too interested in giving opinions on a Halo game not made by them. They also have every right to complain about a franchise they created.

If it it were up to Bungie, they would never make a Halo game after Halo 3 or Reach. And if they did, we wouldn't see them return to the franchise for a very long time.

Personally I found Halo Wars a very mediocre RTS game; even for a console RTS it was average. However, Ensemble did manage to streamline the controls in a way that made the combat different than other RTS games on consoles.

Questions lead to learning, learning leads to kowledge, knowledge leads to understanding, understanding leads to peace.

"I would kill to get a killionaire... 10 times... digitally."

I liked it for the Halo aspect. Beyond that......

Hey, guys, what's going on in this thread?
Someone tell Kivell that he is a lie.

I think Halo Wars was a great game. I dont disagree about the whoring out of the franchise though. With the success of Halo 3, Microsoft was invigorated by the cash the franchise was bringing in and are still trying to get the most out of their "cash cow".

I mean chances are if you are in this thread then you bought the game so I guess they were right.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Well...It was the only successful console strategy game. That counts for something right?
Maybe.

OT: I agree with Bungie. I regret having bought it.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

The thing is though is Bungie has created several successful RTS games in the past. If Bungie was in charge of Halo Wars, it probably would of been a much better game, maybe ever like a Myth clone (which is awesome because Myth is a fun and challenging RTS).

  • 09.27.2012 7:09 AM PDT

Halo Wars is a great game and all, but without becoming a Halo game I doubt it would have been as successful, so in a way I agree with Bungie.

I liked Halo Wars, but I'm not surprised that some Bungie employees would be annoyed that their baby was being slapped on some other game to make it sell more.

... I thought Halo Wars was done very well. I like it. Even if the 'get to general' achievement pisses me off incredibly.

  • 09.27.2012 8:29 AM PDT

If this is Bungie's reaction to Halo Wars, what is their reaction to this new Halo trilogy?

I've never played Halo Wars, what's so rage-inducing about that achievement?

If you don't mind me asking, of course. :)

Just the fact it takes so long. Originally it took so long that they actually cut the achievement requirements down to like... a fifth of what it was at first. Because the amount of experience needed to reach General was ridiculous. Even now though it still takes like... hundreds of games. Which sucks. So I gave up.

Halo Wars is a remarkable game, that's all I know.

  • 09.27.2012 8:52 AM PDT

Two makes there more than speakers.

'Why don't you just paint over what you have with Halo stuff?'One does not simply paint Halo over stuff.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

I like Halo Wars to just screw around but I can understand Bungie being a little upset. I can understand Ensemble being a little mad since Microsoft made them put Halo in it.

On a side note, Age of Empires II is still my favorite PC game.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Well... it was the whoring out of their franchise.

Well if Bungie hated Halo becoming a simple RTS, they must freakin' love what Halo 4 is turning out to be. That looks more "whored out" than Wars ever was.

If Bungie didn't like the idea of Ensemble using their IP, they should've said no.

Do NOT send me Recruitment Letters, doing so will get you blocked faster than you can say "Huh?"

More than hundreds, especially since they put the point cap on. I'm a Brig right now, not sure if I want to put the effort in to go general.

Edit: Bungie could NOT have said no, MS owns / owned the rights to Halo.

I am your sword and shield to guide you through countless battles. I am your Alpha and Omega; beginning and end. I am GAMMA.

One of the reasons Bungie was so upset was because when the first saw a screen shot it was something like this: http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080731092608/halo/ima ges/b/b9/1217496363_Halo_Wars_UNSC_vs_Covenant.jpg

It was fairly realistic of how a full scale battle would have been in the Halo Universe. Then it got nerfed to how we know it today. Compare the picture, which was an actual screenshot of the game during early development, versus the finished product.

I love Halo Wars personally. I don't think a sequel should be made however.

Agreed. It was a nice deviation from the norm, but I wouldn't look forward to a sequel.
