I am sick and tired of being destroyed on xbox connect becasue i'm not host. I love halo 1 multiplayer, but there aren't that many opportunities for me to play anymore. The lan parties are all halo 2 and the xbc support is very limited. It would be freaking amazing if bungie would add xbox live matchmaking to the original halo game, and resell it. That would be way better than halo 3.

Halo PC has an online mode.

Sighness

Indubidubly. Banana.

This should have your answer. Read most of Recon's posts and other posts in there. Don't post in it as you'll bump the topic and since it's very old, it may get locked/deleted. Depends on the Ninja anyway

Yes but only if it was a direct port i.e. dont change anything like the strength of the pistol or fall damage. With halo 2 I think bungie have fiddled with everything a bit too much.

dude, you pulled a jesus!

Don't change anything, huh?

You can't not change Halo 1 and at the same time make it XBL compatible (aka changing it). Hell I'd love to play it online, but the fact is that things would have to be changed in order to make it happen, and changing it would probably make it worse.

I couldn't agree more with wanting Halo CE to be an Xbox Live game. I made a post just a short bit ago asking for the same thing before I read this one. Halo PC doesn't make up for the feel from the original Halo on Xbox. It needs to be the EXACT same game but made for Xbox Live.

Stosh <3's me vicariously... at least someone does...

Just get this. If you have even a halfway decent modem it's lag-free.

And Halo PC is just as bad, or worse, with its horrible netcode.

Read this quote I took off of here, then you can understand why Halo is hard to play with online.

By design Halo: Combat Evolved was inherently not a major multiplayer game. The main original selling point of Halo was the exciting graphics and the artificial worlds created on the new Xbox platform. The average initial player most likely ran through the campaign mode and enjoyed every minute of it as Bungie managed to keep you on the edge of your seat through much of the game. However it was quickly discovered how much fun a player could have competing against his own friends in the multiplayer mode. This multiplayer mode was not designed to be played over the internet, which is quite obvious through the network design. However the desire to compete against new competitors on the internet was just too great and soon services such as Gamespy and Xbox Connect were offering the ability to play Halo online. Unfortunately playing H1 online requies a very fast internet connection (especially for the host) and a small round trip latency (or ping, ICMP Echo Request/Response).

Due to the fact that Halo operates on a Synchronous networking model there can be a large amount of lag due to the round trip flow of information. While two xbox's are playing Halo they are both operating in a deterministic world evolving by their actions predicated upon one another. The joining player's actions are carried out immediately and are rendered in relation to the Server (host) xbox. While the joining players reticule may be showing the location his bullets should be landing due to the round trip latency his bullets will be landing at a slightly later time within the game. Add in character motion and your bullets will lagging behind the player you are shooting. This can cause an unfair advantage for the host xbox and create problems effectively fighting for the client xbox. This problem can appear even more severe in up-close bombat with weapons such as a shotgun or plasma rifle. However with skill and planning the latency issue can often be overcome. Over medium to long distances (red base to blue base on Hang 'em High) a player can estimate the lag he is experiencing (based on current bullet lag pattern) and adjust to shoot and kill effectively. I feel the ability to learn and understand how much a player is lagging is a very important fact which allows experienced players to compete with lag. Due to the fact that the player can understand how much they are lagging, they are able to compensate for the lag.

Bungie doesn't care about hardcore fans.

I would respectfully disagree.

I would say that based on my experience, Bungie cares about all of their fans and truly appreciates their long-term and hardcore fans.

Caring and appreciation are good things. But they are not the same thing as "always agree with" or "actively solicit input", or "give them the keys and let them drive". It's easy to miss the differences sometimes.

For example, a parent who never tells their child "no" and gives them everything the child wants.... does that parent love their child "more" than a parent who sets limits and sometimes says "no"?

I'm surprised you didn't give us the old catch phrase, "Bungie doesn't like to rehash old games". Guess them making Halo Vista kinda shut that up.

A lot of the people that play Halo 2 never played Halo CE. That, or even more haven't played it online (Xbox version). I remember someone started a "pistol whore" thread about a year ago. He went on and on about why the pistol sucked and why Halo 2 is so much better. I could tell in the things he said he didn't have much experience at Halo CE. I put presure on him and he finally admitted he had only played Halo CE at a LAN party for a grand total of 40 minutes. These are the people who are the focus groups for Bungie. They come on this forum for all to see, including Bungie and make broad statements about a game they don't even know. Then Bungie sees it, assume there is a major flaw and starts nerfing things. When those of us that are really enjoying it are busy playing the game.

From what I've seen those that HAVE had a lot of experience with both games either like them both about equally, or prefer Halo CE. There are some of those who prefer Halo 2, but they seem to be a pretty small percentage. Even being the Halo CE fanatic that I am, I don't hate Halo 2. It still has promise. The biggest problem with Halo 2 is the lack of a server browser. They still haven't come out with a playlist I can fully enjoy. Either they throw what I consider crap games in, or they have weapons I don't like, ext. Me and my friends always played Slayer Pro. I'm still waiting for that playlist.

I admit I don't like the SMG very much. It makes it much worse when for months that was all we were able to start with. The other weapons I don't mind. I like the new carbine...the sniper rifle is a...well, a sniper rifle. People wouldn't have been as concerned with the pistol being nerfed had they just had a server list so they could play how they want. Although no weapon IMHO is as good as the old pistol, with the right settings, Halo 2 can still be just as fun and very close to the experience of Halo CE.

Another big reason Halo 2 will never be as enjoyable for me probably has nothing to do with Halo 2 itself, but XBox Live. XBox Live seems to be geared towards the loner, solo player. Me and my friends enjoyed the times we spent TOGETHER playing Halo CE. Me and one friend split screen, and another on his own TV and XBox playing on XBC. The laughing, the screaming, the excitement...you simply couldn't beat it. This may sound stupid, but it was nice to be able to use the names we wanted. I've had three XBL names so far, and still can't get the one I want. Going into a game on Halo 2 as "guest" in a way is degrading. It's as if you are a secondary concern that will contribute nothing to the game. Until and unless they can find a way to allow a group of people to enter using their own names in Halo 3, no matter how good it is, it will still not be as good as Halo CE.

My friend found out you can bring your account to another XBox and play online using your own name. Only problem with that is the aspect ratio for Halo 2 isn't as large as Halo CE. Everything has a zoomed in look to it when you compare the games. We found playing Halo 2 splitscreen a nightmare. Not to mention that the new HUD blocks a lot of your view and the weapons take up what seems like a quarter of the screen. This is another thing they would have to change for Halo 3. If I can't play splitscreen with a friend comfortably, there isn't much of a point.

I look at some of these other XBox Live games that have come out. Many of them you can't even take a friend online. I saw this coming a long time ago when XBox Live first came out. The couple games I got wouldn't let you enter a game with a name you wanted, and sometimes wouldn't even let you bring a friend. Me and my friend had a conversation way back when hoping what we were seeing wouldn't continue into Halo 2. But alas...

To me there are just to many things working against Halo 3 being a great multiplayer game. The hints that they are going to keep matchmaking, the flawed XBox Live system...For me, the outlook looks grim.

I love both games, but I think the first Halo takes more skill than the second one. I play Halo PC more than I do Halo 2 on Xbox Live, and it's a bunch of fun.

Haha. I swear Recon comes in here just to post in 'remake Halo' threads.

T his thread is the perfect example of what I was talking about when people talk about the old pistol.

Just check out this quote....perfect example

Posted by: Warrior 909
Yea, you may miss sometimes, but still the pistol is still to strong. The fact that people missed has nothing to do with how freakinshly strong it was.

1 shot to head.... and 3 shots kills anywhere... it take 36 or something from the AR

OK, who can tell me what is wrong with this statement?

Once again, people trying to keep the old pistol out of the game even though they've obviously never even used it before. That would be like me hanging around the Counter Srike forums and saying X weapon is too powerfull, get rid of it. The devs then see all these complaints and nerf it, even though I've never played the game.

People keep recommending Halo PC instead of rebuilding Halo: CE.
Whenever I go on, I usually find less than a hundred people playing online. Maybe about fifty if you're lucky. Am I doing something wrong?

I think that the devs remember that it was 2 hits anywhere and a headshot kill (with standard shields and health). Their decision to make a different game was just that, their decision. And it IS a different game. Halo 3 will ALSO be a "different game". You may want to prepare yourself now.

If you read between the lines this could be the best and most positive post from Recon number 54. Mr.Recon I can tell you really like the idea of Halo 1.5 on the 360.The chance to see the same Halo 1 we All have grown to love(even -S-)on next gen hardware one can only imagine.

Bungie must know and understand that it has the fate of the video game industry in its hands.Halo 1.5 (or call it Halo 3) is the only game that will make the x-box 360 sell like hot cakes and to stop the S word (it rhymes with Pony) from over charging us gamers for a game system/super computer.

Bungie please accept your fate because many will lose jobs.

Everything. That person probably has never played Halo before.

The pistol was powerful for a reason. It's the equalizer. It was an easily-accessible weapon that anybody could get to. Basically, if someone has a rocket launcher or a sniper rifle, that person has an advantage over someone with a pistol. But that doesn't mean the pistol user has no chance, and if that person is good, he or she can take that person down with the weapon. In Combat Evolved, it's all about skill. In Halo 2, if every player is as good as the next, it's all about who can get the power weapons on the map faster than the others.

By the way, about making Halo for Xbox Live, I'm assuming you're talking about Microsoft's claim that you'll be able to download original Xbox games via Xbox Live Marketplace. If they make it Live enabled, or they add some Live exclusive content, where does that leave the 360 gamers that already have the original Halo copy?
