Has anyone noticed that Bungie locks posts that talk about Halo 1 Ported to the the x box 360 with a x-box live upgrade.Come on Bungie make the Game for the Fans.Bungie doesn't care about hardcore fans.
I would respectfully disagree.
I would say that based on my experience, Bungie cares about all of their fans and truly appreciates their long-term and hardcore fans.
Caring and appreciation are good things. But they are not the same thing as "always agree with" or "actively solicit input", or "give them the keys and let them drive". It's easy to miss the differences sometimes.
For example, a parent who never tells their child "no" and gives them everything the child wants.... does that parent love their child "more" than a parent who sets limits and sometimes says "no"?
I'm surprised you didn't give us the old catch phrase, "Bungie doesn't like to rehash old games". Guess them making Halo Vista kinda shut that up.
A lot of the people that play Halo 2 never played Halo CE. That, or even more haven't played it online (Xbox version). I remember someone started a "pistol whore" thread about a year ago. He went on and on about why the pistol sucked and why Halo 2 is so much better. I could tell in the things he said he didn't have much experience at Halo CE. I put presure on him and he finally admitted he had only played Halo CE at a LAN party for a grand total of 40 minutes. These are the people who are the focus groups for Bungie. They come on this forum for all to see, including Bungie and make broad statements about a game they don't even know. Then Bungie sees it, assume there is a major flaw and starts nerfing things. When those of us that are really enjoying it are busy playing the game.
From what I've seen those that HAVE had a lot of experience with both games either like them both about equally, or prefer Halo CE. There are some of those who prefer Halo 2, but they seem to be a pretty small percentage. Even being the Halo CE fanatic that I am, I don't hate Halo 2. It still has promise. The biggest problem with Halo 2 is the lack of a server browser. They still haven't come out with a playlist I can fully enjoy. Either they throw what I consider crap games in, or they have weapons I don't like, ext. Me and my friends always played Slayer Pro. I'm still waiting for that playlist.
I admit I don't like the SMG very much. It makes it much worse when for months that was all we were able to start with. The other weapons I don't mind. I like the new carbine...the sniper rifle is a...well, a sniper rifle. People wouldn't have been as concerned with the pistol being nerfed had they just had a server list so they could play how they want. Although no weapon IMHO is as good as the old pistol, with the right settings, Halo 2 can still be just as fun and very close to the experience of Halo CE.
Another big reason Halo 2 will never be as enjoyable for me probably has nothing to do with Halo 2 itself, but XBox Live. XBox Live seems to be geared towards the loner, solo player. Me and my friends enjoyed the times we spent TOGETHER playing Halo CE. Me and one friend split screen, and another on his own TV and XBox playing on XBC. The laughing, the screaming, the excitement...you simply couldn't beat it. This may sound stupid, but it was nice to be able to use the names we wanted. I've had three XBL names so far, and still can't get the one I want. Going into a game on Halo 2 as "guest" in a way is degrading. It's as if you are a secondary concern that will contribute nothing to the game. Until and unless they can find a way to allow a group of people to enter using their own names in Halo 3, no matter how good it is, it will still not be as good as Halo CE.
My friend found out you can bring your account to another XBox and play online using your own name. Only problem with that is the aspect ratio for Halo 2 isn't as large as Halo CE. Everything has a zoomed in look to it when you compare the games. We found playing Halo 2 splitscreen a nightmare. Not to mention that the new HUD blocks a lot of your view and the weapons take up what seems like a quarter of the screen. This is another thing they would have to change for Halo 3. If I can't play splitscreen with a friend comfortably, there isn't much of a point.
I look at some of these other XBox Live games that have come out. Many of them you can't even take a friend online. I saw this coming a long time ago when XBox Live first came out. The couple games I got wouldn't let you enter a game with a name you wanted, and sometimes wouldn't even let you bring a friend. Me and my friend had a conversation way back when hoping what we were seeing wouldn't continue into Halo 2. But alas...
To me there are just to many things working against Halo 3 being a great multiplayer game. The hints that they are going to keep matchmaking, the flawed XBox Live system...For me, the outlook looks grim.
