I have a theory.
This theory is about how Bungie destroyed the Reach forum.

As we all know, the Reach forum is now rather inactive. But how? Wouldn't people still post there? How come the popularity has went down? Surprisingly, it's not related to Bungie's dormancy. The reach forums were just a gathering place for anything. Bungie deals as much with the Reach forum now as they did before, which is practically nothing. It was just a place to argue about armor lock and that stupid armor complimenting thread.

On the more subtle side, Bungie has changed the location of the Reach forum. Unless people have it homepaged, getting to the Reach forums is considerably more annoying, you have wait for the drop down menu, then you go to game forums, THEN you might have to scroll down, THEN you click on the Reach forum. It's labor intensive for the average lazy gamer.

Before I go further, I will explain that my deductions come from a book I finished recently on habits, changing the way I perceive anything in the world.

Let's have a quick psychology 101 here-
Habits are very primitive and fundamental to the human mind. Through habits is how our minds only need to work about 1% in some situations, however it's not very clear how much we use anyways. The current prediction is from 1% to 99%. In other words, experts suck at this.
However, what is undeniable is that habits do alleviate our minds of a huge, possibly 99% of work at times.
I will explain how habits work.

Habits are started by a cue. A cue could be anything. It's anything your brain recognizes, and you have an ordered interaction with. For example, you see 1+1. Generally, your brain has a habit of writing down two as the answer. Or, perhaps you see a homeless guy, what happens is your brain runs habit_homelessguy.exe and you go pull out some change for the poor fellow. Those are cues. The action which comes after the cue, is pulling out the change, or writing down the number two.

That's a quick psychology 101 for you guys.

Now, here is my explanation.
Habits are easily destroyed because the cues your brain sees must be very precise. If Bungie so much as changed the text and font of "Reach Forums" your brainless, emotionless habit_ReachForums.exe would not run. Your brain then has to then think. (Habits aren't considered thinking) And thinking means you can perceive things as pointless, or tedious.

Thus, with such a "drastic" change to the location of the Reach forums, Bungie has effectively destroyed the cue your brain perceives. However, if it were in habit for us all to take less than two seconds to go to the Reach forums with the current layout, the Reach forums would be as active as ever.

I take a short bow for this performance to-night.

Join Halo Haven for all things related to Halo 4

The world can't end next month. My yogurt expires in 2013 - Princess Cadence
If Apple invented a car, would it have windows? - Xxembers

There are a lot of factors that contributed to the rather speedy decline of Reach forum activity. The most obvious one is the fact that Bungie no longer controls Halo. Most posters in the Reach forum migrated over to the Halo Waypoint Reach forum, and are now active on their site. Others have since retreated to private groups, and the rest are on The Flood.

Most of Bungie's interaction with the fans took place in The Optimatch forum, which is no longer present because they are not working on any matchmaking systems at this time.

Lastly, it was only logical to hide the Reach forum and other Halo forums from view since, again, they no longer control Halo and there wouldn't be many people posting there.

It's unfortunate for people like me who invested a lot of time in the forum, but it's not as black and white as you're making it to appear.

I didn't know clicking more buttons was such a disaster...screw those kids in Africa, we need to make it possible for less button clicking! Who is with me?!

OT: The Reach forum died because the people that frequent it aren't very friendly, IMO of course.

~:O>~~

I still go there every once and a while... but in this case I find it tedious and a lot of my energy is expended upon reaching the Reach forums... where I have to further find it upon myself to exact upon what it is I want to discuss.

Which is nothing really...

Someone tell Kivell that he is a lie.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

That would explain some of it.

I think this thread would be better served in the Reach Forums...

Besides, who cares?

Those Halo forums will probably disappear once Destiny (or whatever it's final name turns out to be) really gets rolling/drops, so I'm not sure why this is an issue.

And just for comparison: the Reach Forums here still have more intelligent conversations going on than the drivel that's in 343's Reach Forums. If I were to comment on something in Reach, I'd rather so it in these forums than subject my intellect to the content that gets posted on Waypoint..

Could be. I just stopped visiting the forum after I stopped playing the game.

Reach forum had it's moments, whining about credit bans was always hilarious.

True that.

There's a lot of "little brothers" and "best friends" who apparently got their butts kicked for ruining so many people's accounts.

lmao

I disagree, however the issue is that this situation broke habits, like I said.
Nothing to do with Africa.

I also remember the threads that were titled "dear casuals" and "dear tryhards". There were lots of those, it was something amazing to watch.

I always enjoyed the threads that went: "If your K/D is at or below X.XX, then you're just a BK that needs to quit playing".

These made me roll with laughter because the target number was always just ever so slightly worse than or right at the OP's K/D.

I always got a good hearty laugh out of these. :D
