I suppose one could rock the left analog stick back and forth to simulate turning one wheel, and aim a plasma pistol with the other stick.

I could be the slowest and most annoying endgame level run in the history of . . . of . . . well, something.

Ouch, but we digress . . .

I bet people would feel stupid playing it, but impelled to because it's Halo.

See, now, you've totally lost me.

Really, instead of how you think he should die, how do you think Bungie will bump him off?

he must die to make the game have an impact, emotionally, the end of a great trilogy, and like another great trilogy the hero dies saving the world, remember Neo....THE ONE....but yea there can always be a scene after the credits when the camera zooms in on his visor and all of a sudden a light starts blinking, or maybe hear cortana, if they are united, say "welcome back" theres always a way to decieve ppl that the hero has fallen, when in reality hes just taking a break, hey the next game can be set in the MORE distant future with new aliens new technology and everything and we see a SPARTAN but with upgraded armor saving the day, master chief's son/daughter, who said he didnt get freaky with sum1, but hey if halo ends another great game will come, the world doesnt end like cortana said

Wow/..... Don't know what to say......... If MC dies I will cry...... And I don't cry.
I hope they find a way to surprise all of us. They're pretty good at that. : )

Lone heretic - Awesome ideas bro! Im not quite sure I like Mr. Monster flood though.
The rest too cool. Except arbiter kiling chief = sucks. Chief is our hero, not some outcast elite. sure hes coo and good, but he's not what the game was built off of.

Chief must have an excellent, stellar, bragadocious ending if it's gonna turn out right.
But, I have fai7h in bungie they will do fine. }-)

I believe one of the side effects of the cybernetic augmentation process the Spartans went through was a radically reduced sex drive. Also, infertility is a probable by-product, as well. I think he'll just kick the ol' bucket alone.

Besides, the MC's "too cool to even need the girl."

And I agree, Hoplite.

How I think he'll be bumped off.

The flood will be isolated near Delta Halo, and not have the chance to spread. The Arbiter will self-sacrifice and activate Delta Halo, which would not wipe out the galaxy, just that section, thus taking care of the Flood threat since High Charity hasn't moved yet and the Flood is still isolated as of right now.

The MC will probably die along with Truth and Several other main-characters.

OK, yes, it is very true that I'm a dumb ass. I'm not denying that. However, isn't the whole point of a beta to increase the amount of users until you get someone dumb enough to try something you haven't anticipated.

That was amazing! and true! i cant think of any way to end the story without the Chief dieing *sob sob sob* in one last blast of heroism.

Did you think of all the ways possible halo 1 would have ended, how about halo 2? no i didn't think so, if Bungie made MC die it would be no ending to a lot of people because it is so predictable. Bungie doesn't do predictable

It'd still be funny.

I bet even the MC couldn't operate a Wheel-chair with one arm and still fire a weapon.

It's basic physics. Push one wheel but not the other, it looks like you're doing the hokey-pokey.

MC: "I can't put one foot in."

As famous/rich as MC is I'm sure he would be able to afford an electric MJOLNAR Electric Wheelchair VII

True dat!

And, to top it off, there would be no need for a jump button, so you could use the jump button to make the MC do wheelies.

I think in the end, Master Chief will become emo and kill himself.

Just think, he's hiding in a bunker near the Ark, there are thousands of Covenant slowly breaking their way in, so, he takes off his helmet (we get to see his face!) and finishes it all with a single pistol shot to the head.

If the MC kills himself, it'll be to save another. Emo doesn't seem to be his thing.

And as to his death's predictability, well, it's not as if Bungie couldn't arrange the thing creatively. Again, while Halo 3 will conclude the battles waged in the previous two games, there's no reason for Bungie not to introduce radically new story elements to throw off any pre-conceptions gamers may have.

Chuck Norris is a dude who stars in movies that blatantly misrepresent military ethos. The MC, on the other hand, is a brilliantly designed character tied in with ancient, epic themes. Chuck is too dumb to die, and the MC is too noble not to, when needed.

Ouch, I'm asking for it now.

That is a good bitter sweet ending, but knowing bungie, the ending will be totally unpredictable, and if you read the cortana letters, cortana says "Your poet Eliot has it wrong, This is the way the world ends", In his poem "The Hollow Man" Eliot says that the world will end not with a bang but a whimper, so if he is wrong, its going to go out with a huge bang and blow us all away.

Down, down to hell and say that I sent you there...

I came into the world with my legs forward and a woman cried "he was born with teeth!"

"I had no father I am like my father...I had no brother I am like my brother...And this word, "love" which old farts call divine be resident in men like you -blam!-. But not in me, I am my mother-blam!- self, alone."

You Are an Idiot

I don't think the Chief should go the Jedi rout and reappear later in some kind of spectral form. I think that would be adding a little too much cliche and corniness to it.

Somebody close to Chief needs to die though first. I remember in the books, he feels remorse because Linda is mortally wounded. He thinks about it when he's looking over her cryotube. Perhaps, if the other Spartans are in the game, Kelly could get killed or something. I think Chief had feelings for her, by the way they talked about it in the books. But that would all probably be reading too much into it considering a lot of players have never read the books.

Johnson shouldn't die. At least not the way he was described earlier with that one-liner. Perhaps Miranda dies? Chief and Keyes were very good friends, so it would not be out of the question to think Chief would care for her. But ultimately, I think it would have to be Cortana. Some how, some way, she would have to die I think in Halo 3.

This character's death plus all of the death that the Chief sees around him because of the Covenant invasion and everything, would probably send him over the edge. He's always been in control of his emotions through out the games. He was trained as a soldier to be in control at all times. But everybody has their breaking point. And it seems as if Chief is coming close to his.

So if say...Cortana was to some how be killed or whatever, it could possibly send Chief into a rage that would eventually lead him to his death.

The Chief is actually very comparable to ancient Samurai. His emperor is humanity and he will fight until his last breath to protect humanity. Well, say the Covenant and Flood are eliminated at the end of Halo 3, where would that leave Chief? I'm sure if Bungie was really wanting to milk the franchise, they could release Halo 4 and Halo 5 and add different enemies in. But I just don't think it would be the same.

So if the Covenant and Flood are defeated, then Chief really has no purpose. There are no more dangers to humanity and with as much war he's seen and death, he really couldn't assimilate into normal society. So it would seem rather inane to let Chief live at the end of Halo 3 if the danger is over.

If he's going to die, they need to have it as a sacrificial death. He does something to save mankind, but gives up his own life in the process. A soldier always wants a soldier's death, and that's to be killed while fighting. It would seem reasonable that Chief would want to die while he was fighting, would it not?

But very good thread creator.

Nice ideas!

And as a side thought: The trandsending past the physical could happen if he is made into an AI. Cortana is an AI made from a flash clone of Dr Halsey's brain, so why not the MC? Ressurect the MC as an AI, and you have a supporting AI that is FAMILIAR in any future story arcs.

"Not really. They eat their wounded."
"Just like chiropractors!" Caboose - funny -blam!-

"If god is love, then you can call me cupid" Sarge.

Whispering marine - "you'll give away our position!"
sarge - "I'll do as i damn well please!" (kills grunt with sniper rifle)
elites rule, MCs r cool

Just had a brilliant idea, yes MC dies at the end, but if you complete the game on legendary you see a plaza in new mobasa with a lifesize statue of MC carved out of marble or whatever, striking a powerfull pose. Like they did with the iron giant, a statue in a square somewhere. That would make my day. Plz Bungie do summin like that. :P

I think mattd321 opens up an interesting possibility with the extended storyline to be made available to Legendary players. I think a key element in fully understanding the MC's death should be left out until the player beats the campaign in this mode.

It's of course hard to balance such a thing because you want the casual player to be able to appreciate the story, yet something very key and very special should be given to the dedicated among us.
