Down, down to hell and say that I sent you there...
I came into the world with my legs forward and a woman cried "he was born with teeth!"
"I had no father I am like my father...I had no brother I am like my brother...And this word, "love" which old farts call divine be resident in men like you -blam!-. But not in me, I am my mother-blam!- self, alone."
You Are an Idiot
I don't think the Chief should go the Jedi rout and reappear later in some kind of spectral form. I think that would be adding a little too much cliche and corniness to it.
Somebody close to Chief needs to die though first. I remember in the books, he feels remorse because Linda is mortally wounded. He thinks about it when he's looking over her cryotube. Perhaps, if the other Spartans are in the game, Kelly could get killed or something. I think Chief had feelings for her, by the way they talked about it in the books. But that would all probably be reading too much into it considering a lot of players have never read the books.
Johnson shouldn't die. At least not the way he was described earlier with that one-liner. Perhaps Miranda dies? Chief and Keyes were very good friends, so it would not be out of the question to think Chief would care for her. But ultimately, I think it would have to be Cortana. Some how, some way, she would have to die I think in Halo 3.
This character's death plus all of the death that the Chief sees around him because of the Covenant invasion and everything, would probably send him over the edge. He's always been in control of his emotions through out the games. He was trained as a soldier to be in control at all times. But everybody has their breaking point. And it seems as if Chief is coming close to his.
So if say...Cortana was to some how be killed or whatever, it could possibly send Chief into a rage that would eventually lead him to his death.
The Chief is actually very comparable to ancient Samurai. His emperor is humanity and he will fight until his last breath to protect humanity. Well, say the Covenant and Flood are eliminated at the end of Halo 3, where would that leave Chief? I'm sure if Bungie was really wanting to milk the franchise, they could release Halo 4 and Halo 5 and add different enemies in. But I just don't think it would be the same.
So if the Covenant and Flood are defeated, then Chief really has no purpose. There are no more dangers to humanity and with as much war he's seen and death, he really couldn't assimilate into normal society. So it would seem rather inane to let Chief live at the end of Halo 3 if the danger is over.
If he's going to die, they need to have it as a sacrificial death. He does something to save mankind, but gives up his own life in the process. A soldier always wants a soldier's death, and that's to be killed while fighting. It would seem reasonable that Chief would want to die while he was fighting, would it not?
But very good thread creator.
