So i bought an xbox like 2 weeks ago inorder to play halo into the ground before halo2 comes out, and I saw on amazon the 3 Halo books. So I was wondering if these books are actually any good, I mean good reads particularly rather than just "oh its really cool cos master chief shoots stuff". Also, I saw one was by a different author, is this a good thing or a bad one?

Cheers in advance

The books are really good actually. They tell you all about the spartans and how they came to be, and it covers a lot more area than the actual game does. The second book The Flood is basically the game Halo but has a bit more information, but you definitely read the other 2. I have all 3 books and I love them.

I recommend you read them for 2 reasons:
1) It will help you understand everything thats going on in the game.
2) It will cut down on the flamming you would probably get for not knowing as much as some other people.

P.S. I would just like to state that I would not be one of the ones to flame you or anyone else, but there are a lot of other people that would.

Cheers I was planning on gettng them but I just wanted to check first. I have noticed there is a lot of flaming here so it might be useful too.

Yeah the book are pretty interesting. Bloody and full of action, just like HALO! *drools*

And like he said, they are basicly more detailed things about HALO and I'd spend the $15 or so on them.

Okay then here is an overview on each of the books and my opinion.

The Fall of Reach: This is the prequel to Halo. It describes events before the Covenant attack on Humanity and gives some insight on the Spartans' training. Plenty of cool fleet and ground battles. This tells you how the war trully was. Basically we are losing terribly. Last I remember at the end of it we had only won 4 fleet battles....out of a few hundred. It is kick ass. Also it seems from this that the war is based more on Legendary mode(which is very accurate to real life people)

The Flood: You might as well play Halo. It describes everything that happened in the game and a little more. Not very good in my opinion. Very inaccurate and poor. Read it just to say you read it.

First Strike: This book describes the events after Halo and just before Halo 2. Excellent read. Few screwups here and there, but they are forgivable(there are very few mistakes, so it's okay) I personally loved it. Written by te same guy who wrote The Fall of Reach. An excellent read at the very least. Except don't get confused on certain details.

I recommend the first one and the last. Both are written by Eric Nylund. Very god for soaking up information on Halo as compared to The Flood. Also don't just read the books once. Otherwise the details you take in WILL be inaccurate or you simply will become confused. Also make sure you read them in order. It'll save you a major headache.

I agree with Hikaru...Read books 1 and 3 (Fall of Reach and First Strike). If you play and beat Halo then you wont need to read the Flood.

PS The books are awesome and give you a different/greater perspective on the story
