That acutally sounds pretty good. Definately one of the better theories around here.

*sigh*
gravemind is the flood's brain
if it was a forerunner, he would have been killed when the halos was activated, like every forerunners, because no matter how bad floods modificated his DNA, he was a forerunner, so he had calcium (so, bones) and was a host for flood
halo's duty is killing hosts
the forerunner was a host
halo should have killed him

and he's not dead, so he ain't a mad scientist

but that was a nice speculation :)
and when the halo activates, EVERY halo activates, not 2 or 3, but every of them

I'm sure far less than the, "Humans are Forerunners!", or "Gravemind is Capt. Keyes!" theories. It's good to see something not mentioned- I know I haven't seen this theory.

how the hell could he stop it from activating ? unless he got on the ark, he couldnt, and if he got to the ark none of the halo could have been activated

Another thing to add to discredit this theory, is the Gravemind says it is 3,000 years old. The Forerunners disappeared 100,000 years ago. So it doesnt work out at all. The Forerunners were long gone before the gravemind went into existence.

There have been many theories in these forums which suggest the Gravemind is a forerunner. It seems like all the theory creators have no answers to what I just stated, and to the other ones in this thread who mentioned all sentient life gets destroyed when the halo is activated. Which means no forerunner could have survived. To use the excuse "well some rings didnt activate" is making up your own story. From what we know all rings do activate and we know nothing of deactivating of certain rings when it does. If you want this to be good theory, you need more concrete evidence, or else this is just speculation.

Gravemind was around at the time of the last epic battle for the Index on Halo 05. The Gravemind is not a Forerunner, he is made up of Forerunner.
