Why? Other sites such as halo2forum.com and halogrid.com let you use custom avatars and signatures for your profile. Also, they allow you to discuss whatever you want. Why doesn't Bungie.net let us do these things? It's not like you guys don't have the funds for the extra bandwith and don't go off and try to tell me you're trying to be kid-friendly when most of your games center around violence, the latest two both rated Mature. Also, don't think I'm advertising for H2F and HG, I was recently banned from HaloGrid and H2F doesn't interest me that much.

If they allowed custom avatars, then within five minutes someone would upload a picture of someone's ass, if not their own.

That's what moderators are for. It's called "banning".

There are 13 mods and about 1.8 million members. They can't possibly catch every offender. In addition to that, people don't want to see crap like that in the first place, regardless if someone is banned shortly afterwards.

Are people that sensetive that they will break down into pieces if they see something offensive? I doubt it. Also, get some more moderators! There are plenty of people that would be perfect for the job, not including me, I would be too "ban-happy".

Edit > 1.8 million? Where are you geting these statistics?

No one will break down into pieces, it's just that people don't come here and expect to see a picture of someone's ass. And no, there are not plenty of people who would be perfect for the job of moderating. Achronos along with the Master Forum Ninjas are constantly on the lookout for candidates to become mods. The 1.8 million comes from the number assigned to everyone when they make an account. If you look at the link as you hover the cursor over their name, you can see a number at the end. Yours is somewhere in the 1.8 million range.

Well, not everyone is still active. If you go back to the earlier pages, nearly everyone is listed as "Anonymous User (Deletd)"

We're still looking at upwards of a million users.

Perhaps sensitive is the wrong word. Try narcissistic, small minded and belligerent. It wouldn't have to be anything offensive for people to start a flame war. Quite frankly it's not worth the hassle.

If you're looking to represent your self as an individual you won't do it by the picture you chose to represent yourself, that's like saying you are individual because you wear certain types of clothes or because you style your hair a certain type of way. These things do not make you an individual. Thinking for yourself and coming up with your own conclusions makes you an individual, nothing more.

Bungie.Net is one of the only forums i post on precisely because of the rules they have on it. I believe it makes the community that much better.

I think it's better with what they do with this forum, where you must be trusted like a mod to have your own avatar.

If you want a custom avatar, link your GT to your bungie.net name and use your Halo 2 emblym(sp?) as your avatar. Many of us do that.

For Carnage, Apply Within.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

I personally enjoy that everyone has to choose an avatar from a preselected library. I myself am too picky when choosing an avatar. So I'm glad uploading your own avatar isn't an option.

This is Bungie.net. THE official website of one of the most respected development house around today. Regardless of whether the majority of people who frequent the site are tolerant of 'dubious content', the fact will remain that it will never be acceptable here. This means Bungie either have a tonne of moderator man-hours spent deleting the questionable stuff as they see it, or we have the current situation where you don't get to have any real control over the images available to you.

I'd also like to add, that us users from the prehistoric age of the internet who are still stuck on miniscule little connections have a long enough time waiting for the pages to load currently without having to wait for 25, 5 hour animated gifs on each thread.

Kid friendly? Forget that. Denying people the ability to use pictures of some guy's junk as their avatar, or make oversized and cliché image signatures is me friendly.

Just because we can, kids, doesn't mean we should.

Look. Giving me the opportunity to have a sigpic would just force me into proving Achronos right by taking a 3456 x 2304 close up picture of my own rectum and putting it into my sig.

Ahh, the advantages of a having a Nikon Coolpix 8700 :).

People like being shishka friendly for very good reasons.

Such as:

1. he'll make fun of you.

thats it.

I thought you can always become more of an individual by your signature. A lot of people seperate themselves from other people by their signature.

If you have the view of "Hey everyone else allows it why not you?" that is not smart...because those who follow will never lead. As that pertains to absolutely nothing...it will never happen. Achronos said so himself on more than one ocassion...

You know, it was all explained to you perfectly when you clicked the "Register" button. A red beam shot out of your computer and scanned your body, then a sound like a million voices told you "You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile."

I don't see how you could have forgotten that.
