I know alot of people are assuming that the structure in Africa is the Ark itself. I don't believe Bungie would show us this if it was in their trailer. I believe the structure has something to do with the Ark but isn't the Ark itself. Anyway, back to my question, just what might the structure in the middle of the Africa be?

maybe the forrunner ship flies down it and "connects" to it, powering the Field that protects the passengers from Halo's effect.

Why i find this idea reasonable is that the ship provided power for high charity in H2

idea that may have been introduced hundreds of times i know, but still

The ARK IS ALL HOLIES OF ALL HOLY. IT could control all the 6 halos and blow up 85% of the MILKY WAy at the same time meaning if 1 Halo activates then another activates (domino effect)

I guess it's just genuinely hard for most people to pick up on this. If the complete set of 7 Halos can destroy the galaxy three times over (three galactic radii) then 6 can at least hit all of the galaxy.

yeah well it does not mean that if the monitor said that the arc is on earth that the structure that we saw in the trailer has to be the arc. it could be hidden somewhere else

Well, it could be both the Ark and a landing pad for Truth's ship. After all, his ship is Forerunner. Maybe that is why Bungie showed us the moon even. High Charity could've been made from another of Earth's moons, so that ship was supposed to be closer. Of course, that means the ship isn't required to activate the Ark, because it obviously wasn't there when all the Forerunners died.

exactly, everyone keeps saying that, but that's probably just showing you where the MC is heading at the end of Halo 2, they have to show you where he's going or it wouldn't make as much sense in Halo 3 that MC was all of the sudden on Earth

That artifact is the Ark, and the ship is the key to activate the halos.

i don't think it's a halo, maybe it's a big bridge like the bridge you see i halo2 on the level Metropolis...

I dont know if this will help but, the structure in Africa (when it was opened) looked like it had the same designs like the small ring-like platform in Ascension (you know, the one with the spinning arched poles???)

I am guessing that there is a halo in the earth itself and that is the most important halo because it harbors the ark and is encased by the Earth for Protection. I know its a crazy idea but isn't every idea?

It is not a Halo!

I think we would have discovered a Halo around the equator sometime between now and 500 years!

It could be a landing pad for Truths Ship!

an opening for truth's ship to go into, like the one atop high charity...

The structure is MOST DEFINITELY the ark, and i have another reason why, aside from all the others:

When Bungie was interviewed about the Halo 3 trailer, the designers said that they stretched the horizon of real moving matter as far as they could "That's real stuff out there". They wouldn't waste weeks designing this epic scene, and have it NOT be the ark.

One more thing: "This is the way the world ends"

Does that not make it clear that the structure is the Ark, AND that it is activating the halos in the trailer?

The reason that Bungie showed us the end of the world- the activation of all halos in the trailer, is because it WONT HAPPEN IN THE GAME. Trust me on this one. If the halos were activated at the end of Halo 3, then they MOST CERTAINLY would NOT show us the activation of the halos in a trailer.

err...that makes no sense, the trailer is 1/3 through the game.

It is most definately the ark.. if you look closely youll see 2 of every type of animal boarding! nah im jk.. I think personally- the covenant that is supposedly now allied and betrays us, then mc activates the ark somehow, and instead of being a galactic threat, its kind of like a gift from god, destroying the covenant, like thier homplanet, anyof thier ships that are near it, cuz if you look carefully, mc is standing closer than some ships, all he does get is temporary blindnes, but the other ships are forced backwards (specifying those further away than him)

Ok, if that structure was the ark, wouldn't the Arbiter have been next to the MC to help him and stop the covenant from activating the Halos? I don't know about you guys, but I didn't see the Arbiter anywhere in that trailer...
