If halo 3 allows you to command your troops with the d-pad or through voice, I wouldnt even buy the game. Halo is a unique game and thats why i like it and bought it. If halo was more of a team based game like some of the Tom Clancy titles then i can see the worth of commanding your troops but in halo, I cant see the worth of it.

How about just great AI for the Marines? I don't want to lead them by the hand even more...

But what if the troops always do the wrong thing. Imagine saying for them to retriet and they advance, killing them all, and leaving you alone, and since it would have to be basice commands, I think this is a great idea, IF they let you use the d pad instead for those same commands.

Because what if you:
Dont have a headset
Have a heavy accent and the game doesn't understand
Have a speach impediment and the game doesn't understand
Just don't like the idea of it

Solution:
Voice commands, but also the ability to use the d pad

I have never had a positive experience with voice commands in video games. It becomes a central part of the game and is usually either too limited, too complex, or grinds the game to a standstill. Plus, if you don't enunciate clearly (something a shocking number of people struggle with) you will become incredibly frustrated.

Evil Angels
CHROMEHOUNDS
1/6/2010- A day that will live on in infamy.

The Man in Black fled across the desert, the Gunslinger followed.

I know two games that might change your mind,

there was a pikacu(sp)game that you would use a mic to talk to it and give it commands, altho if you cursed it it would not know the diffrence and sometimes take it as a phrase. Also,it would not understand what you said every other time. Thus, making it difficult to play but rather amusing to yell at it.

Also there was a game on X-Play,that was a PS2 game(i think) and you could use the headset.Adam would give the character voice commands and as said above, would work every other time. There was one time where the charater thought she was a dog and began to bark...Uterly embarasing.

Example:

MC : Take that tank!
Marines : Rodger!Holding fire.
MC: No...Take the tank!
Marines: Watch out!Grenade!
MC : What!?No!

I think my point is semi proven at least.leave your thoughts?

This wouldn't seem too Halo-y to me. Halo is a run and gun FPS, not a squad based FPS.

The last with pagan blood.
IMMORTAL.

Make the Marines smarter AND commands. To the deepest pits of HELL with all you simple minded idiots who say otherwise.

Thw marines in Halo didn't need commands. They were good enough. The marines in Halo 2 however...

At least the ones in Halo 2 don't jump off of cliffs...often...

Well, you ARE the commanding officer on sight in both games, so why don't you have control over them.

This is a credible idea, but Bungie will have to tune it to perfection (they always do anyway).

MC works alone (or with other spartans only). I guess the Arbitor does as well.

This is a totally awesome idea, but first of all why would people object to it because, from what I've picked up on the forums is that most people only want simple limited controls over the AI. For example, you're in the hog and there's a rocket guy that you want to pick up but there's a wraith bearing down on you, and this guy is busy trying to kill a grunt "you, get in"! Or just a simple you, go over there type command ( whilst the chief flanks).
SO IF YOU DONT LIKE THE IDEA DONT USE IT. I

It would not change the gameplay at all, covenant still would kick the soldiers' asses, and it would still be up to the chief to wipe out most of them. Though it could change the way you play the game to a squad based shooter in one respect - it would be to enticing to order around a couple of guys with rocks and snipes - the solution: no unlimited ammo for AI. It just seems stupid to me that the best soldier we've got would not give out an order or two. Bungie could even (and they should) have this as a gameplay option - the people who want it can turn it on, those who dont can turn it off - now come on guys you cannot argue with that one. When it's off the AI is self-determinent, when it's on they are a bit less self-determinent and will look to the chief for leadership and help.

In FPSs most of the main characters never speak except for in cut scenes. Delvelopers say they do this to increase the immersion of the game, to pull you in, you are the character. Fair enough, personally I'd love to hear the chief say covenent scum after you just ripped a shotgun hole through a brute's chest. No doubt Bungie have made the chief silent for the same reason. I think that having d pad commands would have the same effect of taking you out of the headspace of the game. But with the voice commands, you are commanding them, you are the character. This too could be optional - four available voice commands for any situation - that coud be dpad commands if you wanted them to be.

One thing I havn't mentioned, so apparently voice command recognition sucks, technology has come along way in the past few years and the 360 has a better mic, it would have to be alot better now wouldn't it? And has for having to prounounce words exactly, fine by me, other people could use the dpad.

Sure this hasn't been in halo before, but undoubtably Bungie is trying to make the best game ever, this could just add an extra layer of goodness.

How about people starting these threads being put in gas chambers? Now wouldn't that be a nice addition to Halo 3?

Now, seriously, how about these people actually quitting trying to make Halo 3 a Tom Clancy's game or the likes?

No, just no. I dont think it would work. Besides, halo isnt a strategy FPS's or a squad based FPS. Its a single person, run and gun, headfirst into battle FPS, and i want to keep it that way.

And it's your connection that's slower than turtle sex.

In........................................................Out .

Or just make a make a menu of commands, think of it, you press start, and then press commands, and theres a whole screen of commands, like "hold position" or "fall back", this would help alot and make the marines live alot longer. because in the level Gravemind, you were just plain babysitting em.

Im sorry but there is just no way that anyone can argue with a gameplay option to have simple, limited commands for your AI allies. If you do disagree you're an idiot. An option, optional, you can turn it on or turn it off, Duh! No one wants a squad shooter, I want the same run and gun gameplay with a few simple commands. I hope Bungie listens to these kinds of ideas in the forums, just for an idea or two. In reality I know this has little chance of happening.

I wouldnt want voice command. Rainbow Six 3 was like this for me....

Me: "Open" [nothing happened] "Open!!" [nothing happened] "OPEN DOOR!!!" [nothing happened]

Then I got frustrated and just said "Hassa-raser-rubarb"

Them: "Opening door"
