When was the last time we got a weekly update?
I think this is it.

That was some time ago. 1 year and 3 months.
How did the veterans manage to survive the darkness from Halo: CE to Halo 2? And Halo 2 to Halo 3?

Obviously this darkness feels quite overdue for me. By the time I got Halo 2, Halo 3 was a few months from being released. And Halo 3: ODST as well as Halo: Reach had little time in between them.

What does this darkness feel like for the old-timers?
It's incredible to think it has been 2 years and 17 days since Halo: Reach.

I can bare the silence. The forums are tough warm flames in a cold breeze, but it feels uncomfortably quiet from Bungie to me.

It's like that background ambience you got used to isn't there any more.

We kind of got spoiled for a while with new games coming so quickly each time these last few years.

This is a big of a deeper darkness than even before though. Bungie's working on a whole new universe. I was only here in '06, but we still had plenty to talk about before Halo 3 was announced. Now? Now there aren't even bars of a window to look through. Patience.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Goes with territory of being a smaller studio. Ubi-soft for example cranks out games left and right. Just hold it together.

The night is darkest just before the dawn. But I promise you . . . the dawn is coming.

I'm surviving the darkness because:

>I'm a ninja, my job gets easier
>Private Groups.

If it wasn't for private groups the Septagon wouldn't be this amazing.

At first the darkness felt horrible, and empty. But I have become used to it. Back in the day I loved reading about ODST and Halo Reach and how they were being made. But I found near the end of Reach that I didn't enjoy it as much any more. It was still cool though, and I miss it.

I can't believe Reach is that old, it only feels like it came out a year ago.

I survive the darkness by coming on to the flood everyday, and coming here every other or few days.

The darkness has grown on me. I now expect it every day. When something new comes along it'll be a nice change.

Most definitely.

I roam the Septagon and Flood every now and again, but private groups are the life-blood of this site right now.

The transition between earlier Halo games was actually much easier than the current darkness. We'd all be playing Halo 2 online, but you would still get weekly updates about the production of Halo 3 and the Halo 3 beta etc. Same goes for the release of ODST and Reach.

Since Halo is out of the picture now, this darkness is by far the longest it's been since we're switching into a new universe.

Well, the darkness isn't much longer than the one between the other Bungie games. But between them there always were things about the previous game that could be discussed (playlist updates, story and how it could be continued, what could be made better in the next game etc.). Because of the completely new universe Bungie is creating there is much less to talk about and with all the Halo chatter taking place on HBO and Waypoint all we can discuss is the community itself and the speculations about Destiny.

There's still things that people can speculate even if we know nothing.

All we can do is wait. Patience.

I really miss the weekly updates. Urk would write up some awesome stuff for us to read during Reach's development.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Yes, it is quite lonely and silent here sometimes.

I like the darkness, with no really solid details about Destiny, i can let my imagination run wild. Another upside to the darkness is that nobody can tell i'm not wearing pants.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."

They survived by playing the latest version of Halo that was available to them.

That and ice cream. You can never have enough ice cream.

Don't do anything you wouldn't want to have to explain to paramedics. Trust me, I'm a pilot.

The darkness isn't all that bad. Sure, we haven't really heard of any news from Bungie, but what we do know is more than enough to allow us to speculate. At this point, the possibilities are nearly infinite. All we have to do is wait a bit longer to find out the truth about Destiny.

  • 10.01.2012 8:02 AM PDT

I'm preparing myself to head towards the light very soon. I'm not old enough here to speculate on the past betweens, but I can't imagine anything more harsh and well dimmed as this.

Didact's Reprisal -
Now is the time of our unworlding
One final effort is all that remains
And I am not afraid
We shall fulfill our promise
We fight for the grace of the Mantle
And this time none of you will be left behind

The private groups I hang around in have been quiet or dead for much longer than Bungie has been dark. I suppose I have practice?
Or perhaps I just don't mind waiting for Bungie to fine tune the game more before releasing information on something that's likely being rewritten and changed constantly. They could reveal stuff to us today, but it very well could be scrapped or completely altered by tomorrow.
