This is classed as softwire piracy. See rules.

When copying Halo PC, the one and legal way is to go into the computer store and buy the Halo PC boxed game because it has been copied legally for you by Microsoft's CD disturbation center.

it is impossible to get someone else's cd-key. You can ban them, and look in the banned.txt, but that is only their cd-key hash, not their actual cd-key. Same goes for logging join/quit on a custom edition dedicated server.

I'm pretty sure it is illegal considering you are crerating a copy of a copy righted product. Yep that would make it illegal alright, I think the penalty for it right now is like 20 thousand to 50 thousand dollars along with a possible 10 years in prison.

The Millenium Copyright act authorizes copies of software as long as they are used for backups. You can't copy a disk and give it to your friend or anything else. Only for backups. The rest of the rules should be in the software license that comes with the software.

no matter what your intentions, copying discs is illegal. it says so On The Disc: do not make illegal copies of this disc. not fair I know, but it's none the less the law.
