I dislike the idea of attaching "expansion" to ODST at all, can we just agree that it is a real, whole game. It even has multiplayer, kinda.
Having said that I would love to see another game like ODST, one that tells a story that is important to the lore but hasn't been shone in game yet. I suggest the events of First Strike.
Unfortunately I don't think 343 has the balls to do something like that so I doubt we will ever see it.
ODST was an expansion. Hence the title Halo 3:ODST.
But it was good enough in my book to be a full game. But opinions aside. It was an expansion first.
I've learnt from Reach that no-one, NO-ONE [Maybe Valve or the people responsible for Black Mesa] should follow the story of a novel in a video-game. Too many things get changed around, you eventually get a different interpretation that is based loosely on the original source.
Very few people in the industry have the talent to follow through something ambitious and in-depth like that. It all starts with actually reading the book. But thats a rare feat in this industry. To reach Step one that is.
