As a big fan of the Halo series, I too trolled these forums back in the day before Halo 2 came out (under a different name). I remember a lot of the same types of requests, demands, suggestions, and hopes for Halo 2 were being posted. I would just like to say that people should take things with a grain of salt and expect nothing.

This is not a knock on Bungie, but a knock on us. I remember the hype machine we built and subsequently rammed into the side of Bungie once Halo 2 came out. We expected so many things that there were a lot of disappointed people, when in reality Halo 2 is an amazing game and people should not have had such gripes. Sure, there are certain issues to be addressed, but we were just plain -blam!-s to Bungie (I do exclude myself from this category, because I did zero complaining when the game came out - pious of me, I know).

I'm not saying we should lower our expectations, I'm just saying we should be prepared for the inevitability that many things we desire will be left out of the game, for purposes we will or will not know. Bungie is an amazing developer, and they know what they're doing. So what if they don't add clips to the sniper gun or bring back Blood Gulch or get rid of the Arbiter or whatever-it-is you want seen in Halo 3? Barring a complete meltdown by the Bungie staff, the game is probably going to be great. Make suggestions and requests, just don't expect them to be fulfilled. If they are, GREAT! If not, focus on the good things.

I know, I sound like a hippie. I'll stop my rant now.

Agreed. Most threads in this forum and others are "wish lists." Bungie is a large and successful company, they already know what they are putting in the game and how to do it. I promise you all they're not sitting around reading our posts every day looking for the next big idea. But keep dreaming, most posts are quite humorous if nothing else.

"heh"

I concur. I really hate it when people say Halo 2's campaign sucked. They just have standards that are waaay to high.

well said...I just like speculations on the origns of certain characters and their meanings. as far as the game Halo3 their gonna do it bad@ass...they have to...cuz with Halo2 they had re-evolve halo cuz they had to take a great game like Halo CE and make it ten times better...now since bungie succeeded....they screwed themselvels..cuz now they have totally anhilate all competition with halo3. Imean they wanna compete a game release to a game console release (PS3). They will make better and alot more enjoyable..they have to...bungie and their team know the expectation they must rise up to and surpase it.

I'll have you know
that I've become
Indestructible!

Couldn't agree with you more, Zerodev. Halo 2 certainly was not what I expected when I finished halo: CE. But then again, I didn't expect Halo 3 back then either.

i actually completely agree with you i was expecting so much from halo 2 and all my dissapointment stopped me from realising that it was still incredebly amazingly awsome game so im not gonna do that for halo 3 and im just gonna wait

many people think H2 campaign sucked because it left us with an open ending for Halo 3. Would you rather have another awesome game or one finished storyline.

i believe that halo 2 is only building on to halo 3 with its dialouge to fill in what we do not know to put pieces together for this very game

then we will see the great halo 3 which maybe better than halo CE

It wasn't the exclusion of a mountain of fan wish-list drivel that people slammed bungie for. It was the exclusion of many unique facets and touches which those fans took to be integral and definitive to Halo. Too bad Bungie didn't agree.

Well think about what position Bungie was put in. With Halo: CE, they revolutionized the FPS. It was an amazing game, and Bungie had a tall order in making the sequal equally amazing. Bungie is known for innovation, so how do you improve and innovate on a game like Halo: CE? You change things.

Absolutely well put! I agree, I was one of those jerks ranting about H2. I feel bad now, because after playing it for almost 2 yrs i've come to apprecitiate it. It IS an awesome piece of work!

I was an ATV fan myself and was absolutely ticked to see it omitted. But, in retrospect, it was definately a good game and we (all of us) should not have tried to push bungie around.
Thanks for starting this thread man. YOU WILL BE HAPPIER WITH A GAME YOU DON'T EXPECT ANYTHING FROM THAN A GAME YOU HYPE UP

Count your blessings discount your disapointments.

Very well written. Halo 2 was one heck of an exciting game, but it didn't yield the exctiment i was hoping for. (a better ending would've helped)

But hype is still good. I mean, the Halo 2 Commercial that came out a few weeks before the game did got me very pumped.

Yeah, me too. Hype isn't necessarily bad, but we let it get to us and started complaining too much about a great game.

  • 06.26.2006 11:34 AM PDT

Couldn't of put it better myself. Everyone did wish for these huge things in halo 2, and then hated it in turn for not having those things, Halo 2 was a great game, and people need to face the fact that it was.

  • 06.26.2006 11:41 AM PDT

A witty signature.

Zerodev, that could not have been said better. I was a sprint fanatic... and when it was ommitted I was dissappointed. But to be perfectly honest... I've played more Halo 2 in my life than all other games combined.

As much as I would sincerely and wholeheartedly agree with you, I also have to disagree. I wanted to see better face-offs between covenant and Humans, I wanted to see more earth-based levels, I wanted to be able to sprint and drive an atv which was promised. And above all I was sorely dissapointed with the heavily narrowed down field of vision. 65degrees is just too small!

It is a great game but the hype that it received from magazines I read was ridiculous. Warthogs with tracks for the snow and people carrier warthogs, and being able to destroy phantoms. Without the hype there would be no criticism and the broken promises would go unheard...

Know what they are doin? Are you insane? blind? have you played galo 2?! You must be missin out on some stuff then, here, let me point em out:
-Assault Rifle is gone for some SMG POS. WTF?
-n00b combo is rampant makin all these n00bs that bought the game 2 hours ago a level 10 in an hour
-Elite character model is weaker (don't give me BS about it being "bigger")
-auto-aim is huge, sweep sniping, n00b pistol
-lunging with everything
-rockets track and usually don't kill the firer even though they may be in 2 feet of the target
-super bouncing that could be fixed by a simple 1 mm invisible wall above the bounce site (they are too lazy, it has nothing to do with the engine)
-quad was never made, it would be good for rushing rockets, getting to the flag guy to protect him real fast, running guys over before they could jump, etc...
-cheating was possible, I mean comon, if I had 10 minutes with the stuff bungie has, I could have made it unhackable
-n00b pistol brings down entire overshield, but only brings down normal shield too? why doesn't it kill whoever it followed in the first place if they have no overshield?
-It is practically impossible to dodge the n00b pistol's auto-aim blast.

These are only a few of the problems

Halo 2's campaign did suck (compared to the first game). There was no sense of urgency. It felt like a collection of unrelated tasks. Perhaps it was because we had to keep switching back and forth between the Chief and the Arbiter, but I just never felt like I was fighting for anything.

If my standards were to high, it was Bungie's fault. After all, Halo set an incredibly high bar. Halo was different from other games in some very fundamental ways. I feel that Halo 2 deviated too far from those fundamental things that made me love Halo so much in the first place.
