Subject: Implementations to help reduce cheating/unfair advantage

Doubt this will get done, but why not put an invisible ceiling up on every map so no one can super jump. I know there are arguments that it is/isn't cheating, but still why let them, its not like the developers left it in there so people would do it, they already said it was unintentional. Learn from all the yelling/complaining and implement things in multi-player to help fix them. The invisible ceiling is easy, especially when creating the maps from scratch.

Create a vote to boot option like in Battlefield 2 that the team can vote on to remove someone if they do a suicide (or 2) or they betray and you didn't get the option to boot. Work on the de-level issue, if 2 suicides vote to boot or something that allows the player to be kicked from the game. So tired of these people. I know, join with a group, you know what, I don't want to have to wait for 3 of my friends to be on at the exact same time I am, I want to be able to play the game and enjoy it.

Try the best you can to prevent people form implementing glitches in the game that allows players to get the ball out of the map or they get out of the map (like in Turf). Not super jumping, but allows you get above the map where the developers obviously did not mean for you to be. More testing? Don't know, whatever, just try, PLEASE!

Pretty hard to fly a banshee with a ceiling isn't it. Also I hope you know that there already is one, its just high enough for us to actually use the banshee. Also superjumping was a glitch in the game engine, I'm sure bungie isn't gonna let it happen again. I like your vote to boot idea, I think bungie is going to implement something like that. They did add the option to boot when you get betrayed, so they obviously think its a good idea.

I'm only going to comment on the first one. In Halo 2 there is a ceiling, evertry to fly the Banshee higher than a cretain point? you can't. And Modder/Hackers will get throught it like in Halo 2.

  • 06.26.2006 8:51 AM PDT

There's no reason to assume there will be the same glitch in Halo3, it's using a different engine.

  • 06.26.2006 8:53 AM PDT

A good majority of the slayer maps could of had a lower ceiling, i.e. Turf where there are no banshees anyway, etc.

I hope you guys are right and Bungie fixes this super jump and the de-leveling issue.

the vote to remove thing could very well become the most misused thing in H3. People hate the kid that sounds like he's 2, bam! kicked for not being liked.
Your friends get pissed that your playing with a n00b. Bam! Kicked
A legitimate cheater is cheating with friends. Only one person votes for him to be kicked. Bam! The cheater and his friends kick the other kid.

Its not a good system and would be misused way to much.

  • 06.26.2006 10:11 AM PDT

It would not be misused if the option does not appear until say the person has had a couple suicides or betrayals. Easily could implement checks and balances. No offense but I hate when an idea is thrown out there and people tear it apart without thinking it through. The proposal is not just do it and that is it. It would need thought, planning, etc. and that is what a software development company does when creating a software program. Its not our job to nit pick everything. Let them work it out. It would need a check for how many suicides, a check for betrayals, is it 2 suicides or 3, etc. etc.

Besides, it works awesome in Battlefield 2 and no one has taken advantage of it in there. A little planning, a little thought into it, and Bungie could have a system that works. The game needs something, I am sure they could implement it with the right checks and balances.

fellow iceman, this would help for a larger number of players as well. if this was not done, you could always introduce a split host system where at least one member from each team gets host. i don't know if this would help cheating in any way, but it would function the same as a dedicated server would for max players, producing very little lag/latency.

the so Press X To Boot _______ function is very very VERY broken, sometimes you can kill your friend 10 times and it doesn't appear for him to boot. But when there is a firefight, with like 3 vs 5 and one of them got a rocket launcher and shoots at an incomming warthog, and the warthog passes just that firefight and hits it, just as one of your teammates is next to it, and it says you betrayed him, it was a complete accident, suddenly he can boot you. It's ridiculus

For suiciders, if they kill themselves 3 times in a row, their respawn time is 1 minute, then a fourth time, it's 2 minutes, 5 times, 4 minutes, 5 times, 16 minutes and so on.

With lower ceilings you'll have corpses and debris bouncing off of it, but I'm not saying thats a bad thing. There should be programs to stops people who defy the laws of physics and survive. Something that should have a speed limit for people on foot, and an invincibility detector which recognises different cheater's breaking of the rules and boots them.

Press X does not work all the time, very rarely. In fact, you can't use it all with suicides unless you get lucky to be standing next to them. And with betrayals, I've been betrayed numerous times without the option to boot. In addition, I've had a friend on my team betray me on accident and I hit the x button to fast and botted him on accident. Doesn't sound like that good of a system when something else could work better (i.e. vote to boot is -2 or -3).

Some people live off this stuff, I'm talking about superjumps, some players cant play a single fair game without superjumping on top of a building with a sniper and a rocket launcher, its just sad

That will not fix the problem with the people that de-level. It would fix the betrayals. They need to add something else for de-levelers.

im still not sure the vote to kick will be used correctly. I know it works in BF2MC i love that game, but the people who play it are a different crowd than the halo gamers. Plus, Halo is a much larger community. Im just not sure it would work in such a large environment. ALthough, i know SOCOM did it on the PS2.
