This will be short and sweet.

In First Strike, Johnson is found to have survived an attempted infection by a Flood pod. Upon further inspection, it is said that he contains "dead" Flood DNA and has somehow gained "curious regenerative properties." This made me wonder about the origin of the Flood.

Knowing what we do about the way Forerunners treated the Flood, could they have sprung from the pursuit of eternital life? Perhaps they were created inadvertantly when the Forerunners attempted to biologically enhance themselves to the point of living eternally, or at the very least much longer. Not quite contrapunctally, perhaps the Flood were encountered randomly.

Supporting my theory that the Flood were created is the fact that the galaxy is still intact. If the Forerunners had randomly encountered the Flood, would they not be hard-pressed to the point of impossibility to contain them? Think about how difficult it was for the MC to pull off an escape from Halo 04 and High Charity without the Flood following (although I believe the Flood have ample opportunity to make it to Earth after Halo 2). Granted, the Forerunner had much better technology, so this may have been more feasible for them. But I believe the Forerunner knew what they were getting into, thus the containment and study areas, and of course the Halos they built.

Now, I realize that 343 GS says something to the effect of "when they were first encountered," but this could very well mean they were encountered as a result of their experiments. That's like saying, "We first encountered problems when we tried to mix hydrogen with fire."

What may have occurred is the genetic experiment went awry, causing the need to detonate the Halos. Just my opinion. Thoughts?

as much as im luvin your theory dude, someone has already posted a quote from GS that refutes flood creation.

GS says the flood were ENCOUNTERED by the forerunner. i wud give ya the quote, but it wasnt my finding. ill c if i can dig it somewhere.

i supported the flood being created too, but sadly, im convinced otherwise now.

I addressed that, though.
