I personally would rather a Maw, I tell you now, that amazing level, witha timer, plus Marty's music, was a unique gaming moment for me, one that I will always remember. -It seemed Epic, had a sence of urgency, and for a few moments, you actually feel like you were escaping a detonating ship.

Tartarus, well, it wasnt as epic (seemed like a pointless event), there was no sence of urgency, and felt like a game, not a real world event (if that makes sence).

just before i go, kudos for both, fun levels; just i hope for a maw for halo 3.

Ah, look at the lonely people...

As shishka put it best (something like this, anyway):
"There were bosses in Halo: CE, it's just that they were nameless hunters and gold elites. In halo 2, you have the same thing, they're just key characters in the game."

Yeh but in halo ce it was good cause the boss was just like a harder situation that you find yourself in, which is fun cause you can do complete it in a number of different ways/

But for say the Tartarus battle, its just one big fat monkey charging about that you have to kill, which isn't as fun as fighting like 5 gold invisible elite blokes

The maw was my second favorite level in Halo ce. My first was of course the silent cartographer.

yes, but; there were no timed warthog/vehicle runs with explosions and jumps and amazing music to time with it; in halo 2.

edit: also as a previos poster said, tartarus has few diff methods to kill (like gold elites) hes just snipe till shields go down, and then pummel dmg on him.

Do you agree with that? I sure dont.

Well thought about battles and tactical situations (halo1) Vs bosses who dont obey the gameplay rules and ruin the feel of the game up to that point (halo2).

I'd like to see something unique, but no boss battles. Especially the kind with objectives, ie. waiting for the boss to become vulnerable, then shooting it only to make it become more pissed off. No..

Maybe driving around a map to different buildings with control panels/enemies to stop Halo from activating? It's gotta be epic, too. :P

The Prophet of Truth in some way will be a boss unless he dies in a cutscene. I like the Maw ending. Although I HATE being timed, the Maw was still almost a flawless level. I can't believe I'm saying this, but maybe there could be more timed situations in Halo 3.

Shishka was talking bollocks and I'd say he knows it too. That's nothing but sophistry. We all know what each other is talking about when we say a boss.

well, I brought my own, 100% beam rifle and shot him, not so hard even on legendary

But let's face it, there are going to be bosses, it was not the gameplay in Halo 2 that required bosses, it was the story and they pulled it of pretty good in my opinion.

but the maw was also good, a mix of those to would be rather fun

2 fast vehicles run down a narrow street with a timer on, and the other one is some kind of boss, and you have a marine or a friend driving while you are on the turret

I am...whimsical today.

The Maw its self was a boss level. You had to expose the weak points of the Reactor, and fire into them, while trying to avoid damage. Seems pretty bossy to me :)

I'd like a level that was completely different to the rest of them. Killing a harder bad guy was not as gratifying after going through level after level of killing bad guys, if you see my point.

I definately would like a Maw ending. That was intense riding a hog through en exploding ship. Flood and covenant fighting all around you, explosions occurring just as you're driving by. All the fun jumps, especially that oen long jump where it takes a few seconds for you to reach ground again. And then that final cutscene of MC running to the londsword with a whole gang of flood on his ass, and then escaping Halo just in time as it detonates.

That level was so awesome. The Tartarus level sucked major ass in comparison. It was over in like a minute, and wasn't even exciting, all you had to do was make sure you didn't get hit by that hammer.

Yes I agree. The Maw engine room was the best "boss" that halo could (and should) offer. It was objective based (like Two Betrayals generators) but the immediacy of it and the subsequent timed warthog run really made it just a great end to the game.

Oh and I'm not sure who said it but your beam rifle does nothing whatsoever to Tartarus on legendary and he is certainly not easy to kill on that setting. However Johnsons identical run-of-the-mill beam rifle takes his shields down. This perfectly highlights the problems of the halo2 boss battle, the rules go out of the window.

It was I who said so, and if I remember correctly, which I most certainly do, you yourself can bring his shield down yourself, if you unload an entire clip of the carbine into his face, and or, 3 shots with the beam rifle into his head, and or, lesser ammo when or after Johnson got some practice with his beam rifle. And that is on legendary. Which I completed myself without the "noob" combo, friends or help from Johnson at the end

I belive that bungie will blow us away with a new kind of ending level, not a boss, not a "race" but something new and exciting.

Yes, you could take down Tartarus' shields with your own Beam Rifle. I did that one, I would stick a couple grenades to him, and right before they exploded, I would take his shields down and he'd be dead in about 30 seconds or less.
