If I don't see you, good afternoon, good evening, and good nite.

I think that Halo is like the office. The office doesn't have a laugh track like most shows, but it's really funny. Halo 2 had bosses like most games.

How about a new, entirely different ending level?

As shishka put it best (something like this, anyway):
"There were bosses in Halo: CE, it's just that they were nameless hunters and gold elites. In halo 2, you have the same thing, they're just key characters in the game."

There were no bosses in Halo CE. Sure, hunters were tough, but you encountered them numerous times.

In Halo 2, there are three bosses: Regret, Tartarus, and the heretic leader. They are bosses because they require specific methods to kill them; you had to board Regret's chair and kill him. You had to differentiate between reality and holograms in the heretic leader battle. And you had to do nothing but run like a pansy when you fought Tartarus.

A "boss" is a character which has specific attack patterns, specific weaknesses, is important to the story, and is very rare throughout the game. If you're gonna call gold elites and hunters "bosses," you might as well call a pack of grunts "bosses" too.

I don't think bosses belong in Halo.

:O maybe you have to race a boss in a warthog while a ship explodes with you running over gold elites!

Personally, boss battles were a bad decision. Bosses are only common in the Quake and Doom series now. They really are out of date and dont really fit into this game. That is one of the reasons i hated halo 2.

But the Maw had a great, unique ending. It was a timed race against the clock, inside of a self destructing ship with everyones favorite vehicle. What beats that?

I voted for Maw but I feel in general that covers the lack of a Boss in place of an actual exciting level for a finale.

Really If I so much as see a single enemy that talks too much while I kill him or has slightly higher health than the norm (gold elites and other higher forms obvioiusly are ok) then I will probably break my copy of the game right there.

And if you bring up, "But how will you kill off Truth?". Plenty of ways and they all are more fun then jumping on him. You could just walk in the room and shoot him. Have to follow him through some type of maze and then just blow him away, or simply have him killed in a cutscene such as you rigged his ship to blow before you jump out of that forerunner space ship.

I hope a similar technique will be used in killing gravemind. It's not too hard to make a gravemind fight where you never directly combat gravemind. Just make a revisit to high charity (made of mostly parts we had not seen already) and this time around make only limited enemies (though the few you do encounter will be all flood) but inplace of enemies you are now dodging and fleeing from or moving around gravemind's massive tentacles which flow out into the city as he grasps the ship.

You could make a quite exciting level like this. There could even be a highdestructability and maze feel to the whole thing as You will get used to seeing his tantacles on the walls and then you will start to hit dead ends where the only ways out seem to be block by his tentacles, you break out some nades, blow them away (while also iritating him and sedning more attacks to you) and you have your new path, could also work as you try to find the right way amongst the pulp of his blown up tentacles.

But please the Maw ending was one of the most fun levels in that game for me, In contrast I feel the halo 2 finaql level was one of the worse of my game history.
