The E3 trailer (for halo 2, you know, the real-time one) was, to me, more thrilling that Halo 2 actually was.
The trailer showed a dark, gritty city, that was clearly under attack. The city was wrecked, with large fires and piles of rubble everywhere, and the sky was an ominous dark blue with lightning strikes, and the streets were littered with corpses, both human and alien, and half destroyed military buildings blocked up roads. Explosions of human and Covenant artillery flashed at random intervals in the sky. The city looked like a real city might in the future, everything was a grayish metal, with curving streets and overpasses that added to the confusion. Even though you could only see small areas of the city at one time, it was obvious there was stuff happening outside of areas the MC was at. The level had a very desperate, last hope, hurry the hell up or we'll die feel to it. It was believable, and it looked awesome.

Halo 2 showed us a more bright and happy looking city, that looked like it was planned as a zoo. There were small, grassy openings in the middle of all the gray metal, which was silly. The Bridge fight in the tank offered nothing to look at, it was over quickly, and boring. Outside the tunnel was very cool, except for the oddly placed grass in the middle of all the metal and stone. And instead of being a cityscape, it looked like an amusement park, very happy and friendly, no battle damage, very linear, and over with far to soon. And, the time at the Marine CP was, at best, lame. It wreaked of trying to recapture the thrill of that E3 trailer, and Cpl Perez's and Sgt. Banks' performances made it worse, they sounded like someone who had forgotten their lines and was reading from a cue card. "When I...asked for rein...forcements. I didn't think....they'd send a...Spartan." That level had a "yeah, there are Covies here, but look! Flowers! And pretty landscape! Take your time and enjoy the garden under the platform." fell to it.

For those who don't get what I'm saying, watch the E3 trailer, preferable on the Xbox (disk 2 of the soundtrack for Halo: CE. Then play Metropolis. The difference is painful. Trailer: Dark, gritty, futuristic, war-torn. Halo 2: Meh, we want it to look PRETTY. So here is some GRASS AND FLOWERS. I think Halo 3 should revisit that cityscape, and put us in the middle of that city, trying to push the Covenant invasion out.

He means the Halo 2 trailer.
And by the way I agree, Metropolis was way too "pretty" to be a city under attack.

the E3 trailer looked 10 times better than halo 2. it looked like a war was going on around the player. in halo 2 the war is just where the player is

theres are a lot of cool things in the E3 trailer thts not in halo 2.

There are obviously still some cities still standing, and I think that could possibly happen. That would be an awesome level. You could actually start in the warthog and just go around the whole city with one or two other hogs and clear the streets out. Maybe in co-op one player would start in the driver's seat and the other in the gunner possition, or they could be in separate 'hogs.

That was the problem with the Halo 2 city level. It was over too quickly, too pretty, uninspired at best, and entirely linear. There was only one path. The trailer looked like there were hundreds of paths. Augh, watching that trailer makes me cry a little, I WANT THAT LEVEL.

Okay, New Mombasa "wuzn't" INCINERATED. Incineration means it was burn't to complete nothing. The thing you saw in Halo 2 was a side affect of the slipspace rupture in the gravitational field of Earth. The bridge-suspension is still standing in the Halo 3 video, so it wasn't incinerated. And yes, the main focus may be the Ark, but you don't KNOW that. Master Chief doesn't know about the Ark either, only the Arbiter, Miranda and Johnson know that. Also, with Halo 3 being the last game of the series, it will probably be huge, there is plenty of room in the story for a level where MC tries to push the invading Covies out of the city.

ok incinerated or whatever the hell u wanna call.(damn and I thought I wuz technical) but have the fact that u pu$$y's have to have the last word then yeah....there should probably be level where u land on a remote part of New Mombosa to make way to the ark were it si located just outside somewhere in the desert of New Mombosa.

Idiots, look in the Halo 3 trailer, in the distance behind the Forerunner artifact you CLEARLY see a city, and Bungie has even said that that is Mombassa. Now I would love a level where you get to go there and fight through the ruined city which is totally under Covenant control. Mabie we could go some weather effects, like some rain from those storm clouds to darken the mood.

Okay, read my damn first post. I didn't say we should fight in the desert, that would suck. I said we need to revist the urban city, like in the HALO 2 E3 TRAILER. WATCH IT AND READ MY FIRST POST, AND SPEAK ENGLISH GODDAMMIT!

Now that would be a good idea "infestation". lIke a level to start off with then slowely progreess to the ark on the outskirts...cuz rememeber the E3 preview of Halo2 when it came out....how you would fight i the city but it did not happen that way in the actual game....then master chief ends up on the outskirts of New mombosa with a bunch of elites that fell from those incubater things then they come out and switch on their blades and cortana says bet u cant stick them with just one...or something along that line. then the Halo2 logo comes out.

Okay, drop the Ark obsession, MC doesn't know about it yet, 343 GS didn't tell him about it. And what you just said, and what infestation said, is the same thing i said, a fight in the New Mombasa city, like in the e3 preview. And MC wasn't on the outskirts of New Mombasa in the trailer, you can see buildings all around him, and they are clearly on a large thoroughfare. They were still in the city.

Bungie has VERY clearly stated that the trailer has parts of a cutscene about 1/3 of the way through the game. Think about what the Chief will do before that part of the game.

This is true, but then again, they said a lot of things about Halo 2, that didn't even come close to happening. They said in the weekly updates that stealth would play a part, including shooting out lights and avoiding enemies who hunted you in the dark with flashlights. Never happened.

Just as a heads up New Mombasa doesn't exist anymore, Regrets carrier made a space bubble that destroyed the city.

Heheh...123 retard lane...

Yes, for Halo 3, Earth cities should be exactly like the Halo 2 E3 2003 Trailer. Ten times bigger, twice the intensity, with the AI frame that you actually feel like Marines being Marines. AI driving needs a complete overhaul, and enemy vehicles should be zipping through everywhere with a full party with legions more ground troops. Hell, even the Battle Rifle from that trailer should replace what the Battle Rifle is as of now.

Metropolis and Outskirt was a disappointment, it really was. And once you get into New Mombasa's city center, the music gets all lively and you're thinking "Ah, now things are getting good". But when you round the corner...ugh. I would rather play the half-finished demo instead.

Okay, Apollyon, look, you said: there should probably be level where u land on a remote part of New Mombosa to make way to the ark were it si located just outside somewhere in the desert of New Mombosa.

Secondly, the following words are NOT English words, and those that technically are, aren't what you are using them as: u, wuz, alot, whatz, ur, anywayz, cuz, putile.

And when you leave out all the necessary capitalizations and punctuations it becomes gibberish.

And last: you did say that I wanted a desert, you said (this has been changed for readability without a translator): Yeah (a term of agreement/ confirmation) there should be a level where you land in a remote part (which is another word for....desert! cities are by definition, not remote) of New Mombasa, and fight to the Ark, in the desert, outside of New Mombasa.

Now then please, stop posting here, you are flaming with no support for your ideas, hurting my brain as I try to read your posts, and ruining the thread with your incompetence to type. I put out a real question, and then you started spewing run-on, mis-spelled paragraphs trying to support your ideas by bypassing the blam filter and yelling. You are welcome to stay if you will actually put forth real ideas that relate to the topic, not the desert, and you can do so like a human being, otherwise, go, as you will likely cause the thread to be locked.

EXACTLY! The Halo 2 version made you think : SWEET, finally that one awesome level from the preview! And then it turned into half-assed crap.

Did you all ignore what I said? New Mombasa is a reck now due to Regrets space bubble when it went into slip space. Too late to remodel it now.
