(To discuss Halo 4.)

I was replaying Delta Halo and Regret again and I heard some dialogue I normally didn't hear on the Gondola:

"You know what Chief? I think the Forerunners built these new structures around the old ones to protect them, remember them,,,(something)"

Now, we are all aware of the ruins quite possibly being built by ancient humanity, but I wanted to start this discussion again.

What do you think they are?

They're probably Forerunner. By the time the rings were built humanity had been defeated by the Forerunners.

That'd be a great connection to the new lore; unfortunately I don't think that's the case.

I don't see why not. By this time Bungie had probably written the Halo Story Bible or had a good idea for the future.

But Primordium shows the Forerunners having degraded humans put on the rings for study. These humans eventually constructed their their own constructs.

Thing is, since they were degraded, they construction process shouldn't be advanced and they should have decayed in all the years, unless maintained, which I doubt.

Inside the Mind of Halotitan Help me get expand my mind.

I would say it's possible that human's built them considering the fact that they were housed on a Halo.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Those ruins had automatic doors. How would primitive humans be able to make something like that?

Just curious (I saw a Human-Forerunner war section on Halo Wiki), how exactly did Humanity even manage to wage a war against the Forerunners? Wasn't that in Prehistoric times when our daily lives consisted of falling off our dinosaurs and throwing rocks?

Not exactly.

The war against the Forerunners was sought out by the the union between Ancient Humanity and the San Shyuum (Prophet race). Their union caused their technology to jump forward greatly and almost rival that of the Forerunners.

The whole war between Ancient Humanity and The Forerunners ended approximately 110.000 years ago. I can't remember exactly how long it lasted. Humanity was later de-evolved by the Forerunners and confined to Earth when we lost the war.

Long before humanity was an advanced space faring species. The war with the Forerunners (which was started as a result of Forerunners perceiving humanity as invading their territory when in reality humanity was being pushed back into that space by the Flood) ended in defeat with the Forerunners "devolving" humanity. One could say that humanity got kicked back into the stone age more or less.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

This has been one of my favourite Halo mysteries ever. Funny, I was reminded of it just days ago, when reading HipiO7's thread about the Flood outbreak on Delta Halo..

I have only found three pieces of the puzzle (iirc), all in form of quotes, but they do not add up to much...

This quote might give some context as of why they were buildt: Cortana: This lake couldn't have been created by volcanic action, which means it was either built this way on purpose, or was created by some other cataclysmic event. Sorry... were you trying to kill something? It could mean that there were similar structures there before, but they were destroyed.

EDIT: Volcanic action: presumably how all rock based terrain on the ringworlds is made. The Forerunner build a metal scaffolding (as seen on the level Halo in 3), which is then coated with molten rock.

The complete quote from the OP.You know, I think the Forerunners built these new structures around the old, to protect them, to honor them. Pure speculation, mind you. I'd need to make a thorough survey to be sure.If you read it carefully, you'll notice that Cortana says "new structure" and "arround the old". Which leads us to a couple of questions: which are the new and which are the old? Does she mean the regular structures we se everywhere on 05 or does she mean among these particular structurs? Worth noticing is that there are practically two types of structures, the ones made out of metal and ones made of stone. Some of the structures are however made out of both; a metal skeleton with stone walls, pillars, coloumns, etc. Both types do look equally odd/old/worn out, though, but could this small difference mean something?

The third one is from the multiplayer map Sanctuary's description, seeing as it is located roughly in the same area and feature the same type of buildings.Whoever narrates the menus: Though its original purpose has been lost to the march of eon's, this structure is now a cemetery to countless brave warriors.Whatever that means..

It's been a dead end for years. I honestly don't think it'll be brought up in any form, it's probably been forgoen or ignored. Still fun to speculate though.
