One day... I am gonna grow wings... A chemical reaction... Hysterical and useless... hystecial and let down and hanging around... crushed like a bug in the ground.

An example of a really bad forum for a multi-platform game is the Bethesda forum. I pray that Bungie.next doesn't have a similar layout/structure because Bethesda forums are a hell to navigate and post in.

Firstly you have a sub-division for each franchise. Followed by a division into each game and topic on that franchise. Each game is then divided up into tech support, cheats, bug report etc. for each console.

As you'd expect this horrible layout kills any sort of big community feel because people that are regulars in diffrent sections don't interact despite their sections not being that different. (Just different console.)

At least in the "glory" days all the people talking about Halo stayed in the same forum. I'd hope not to see horrible divisions like over at Bethsoft.

Indeed this is why I have brought up the discussion.

Just one forum for each game, like Bungie has done in the past.

"There's a very fine line between not listening, and not caring. I'd like to think that I walk that line every day."

I don't see much reason to change it a lot. Like you said, we have the games forums, maybe a separate one for PC games, but it boils down to the same game no matter what platform in question.

There comes a time in every mans life... and that time is not now.

That's true, but there are always certain issues/ features that are exclusive to certain consoles. PC users won't experience the same bugs and glitches as Xbox 360 users will and vice versa, and people will get frustrated when problems that don't concern them are cluttering their forum.

It would be best to keep game discussion to one forum, and things that can be platform specific to separate forums, if that makes sense. Bungie hired people specific to a platform (if i recall correctly), so it would make sense to isolate those issues so they are more easily addressed by the appropriate person.

They might be seperate platforms but they will be the same game.

It would make no sense to have an Xbox360 Destiny forum and then a PS3 Destiny forum.

Still better than you.

You think I want to liase with those.... PS3 players?

Per Audacia Ad Astra

If we had a forum for each console, we'd no doubt have console trolls who post 'Xbox is better' and even cross-forum polls and perhaps conflicts due to platform bias. However if we leave it all in one place, the same may still happen but to a different degree.

The only benefit of having it in one place is you will be able to designate one particular topic for individual platforms. That may cause pinned topics to make the pinned topic list congested so I suggest making an 'Official Comparison Thread' and then dish out punishments for posts outside of it that truly belong in it..

The segregation of the forums into platform-specific forums as mentioned in the OP will definitely put a huge dent in the community. I already feel/felt a partition from the Halo: Reach forum because I am/was constantly reminded that there are plenty of other users I will likely never interact with on the forums because their interests are based elsewhere.

What I'm trying to tease out is what you want - or any individual wants.

You've started off by saying what you think would not work well (subdivided forum structures), so what is it - positively - you think would work well here?

Don't know about that. Even Achronos has expressed concerns with the difficulty of using the forums in the past.

Chuck everything in one place. That is what I would prefer.

Whatever happens, you'll see what the common demand is and changes will inevitably be made.

Perhaps there could be one "forum page" for the game like each of the Halos, but each thread is either designated as console specific or neutral sort of like how the webmaster icon is know.

This way everybody can see whats on offer but also chose to ignore certain platform threads.

I'm not sure. Just an idea.

Platform topic icons? I'd suggest colour coding but that could look messy.

How about [PS3] or [360] tags or even [Wii] tags that go on the beginning of a post.

  • 10.06.2012 5:11 AM PDT

Tag 'm and Bag 'm

I think that you need a Destiny game forum and separate bug/glitch forums for 360/PS3/PC. That way people with different consoles can talk together about the game and they can post their own console bugs/glitches in their own thread.

That's what I was thinking. Perhaps there could be an option on all posts where it was required to choose between [PS3], [360], [PC], or [Wii] tags in the topic creation page. If it did not fit in a specific platform, there could be an [All] or [General] tag.

I would like it to be part of a site feature though, not just tags that people post straight into the subject. Something that shows the tag next to the post maybe; it could be where the current status of the thread is (hot topic, new topic, locked, etc).

Something taken for granted a lot here at Bnet is the general friendliness of the UI. There is definitely going to be some UI changes with Bungie.next and I guarantee Bungie has thought about the multi-platform situation already.

The point I am making here is: We may be discussing something that Bungie has already solved in their evidently brilliant minds; Bungie just can't tell us about the solution and spoil a part of B.next.

Yes, especially when you look at what people want to be able to do.

Such as?

I grant that maybe they aren't the most efficient forums, and there are some limitations, but I'd argue that that provides a more streamlined experience.

  • 10.06.2012 10:24 PM PDT

I tell you, we're here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.

some sort of tag system could be implemented, separate from topic headers. Maybe an expandable tag list for a each thread on the forum mains where you click a + or something similar to view a thread's tags, and the forum could be filtered by tag fairly smoothly with all the fun stuff web designers have to play around with these days like ajax and javascript.

Some sort of subforum option could be implemented as well, but i don't know enough about how forums are coded to know if that would work. Instead of pinned threads on more specific topics, you could have pinned subforums.

  • 10.07.2012 2:40 PM PDT

How the forums are set up now is fine. Its probably the most user friendly forum I've ever used. You have one forum for each game to be discussed plus all the community/flood type. I see no reason to change it except maybe splitting the game forums up by console.
