You should of made up your own instrument. You could have named it the PolarLighting -a-phone. People would buy it and they would all be like "Awh, He's so cool for inventing the PolarLighting-a-phone."

At the very end of 'Metropolis', after destroying the scarab the Chief and Sarge make it into InAmber Clad and then make a run for the Covenent carrier. They enter the slip space rupture and jump to (of coarse) Delta Halo, leaving the giant explosion as a parting gift. Now, last time I checked, Slip Space jumps speed up trips that would normally take years (if not hundreds or hundreds of thousands of yrears) to make. The jump that the Piller of Autumn made to Alpha halo took a lot more than one day. The jump that the Gettysburg/Ascendant Justice made took atleast an hour, and though it went a considerable distance (thanks to that freaky crystal) it still took time. Now, pay attention to the jump that the Clad made. It jumps, and then exits right away (judging by the video at the beginning of Delta Halo). Miranda says "Sorry for the quick jump." It was one helluva quick jump if you ask me, even with the power of that wierd crystal.
I think that this might have to do something with Earth in relation to the Halos. Perhaps Earth (or the Ark, which is probably on Earth) gave the ship an enormous boost? The generators on the Covenant ships are a direct immitation of the Forunners afterall, perhaps they were designed to recieve a boost from the Earth.
It may also have somthing to do with the giant crater on Delta Halo. You know, the one that cortana felt the need to point out for no particular reason. "This crater couldn't have been formed by natural (forgot the rest). You make a big crater going from Delta Halo to Earth, and then another big one (the one in the trailer) going back?
Please forgive me if this has been posted before, though I haven't seen it.
Your thoughts?

Interesting...but one quick thing. Its a game! Mabye there was hours in there and bungie didnt want to put 6 hours of marines playing cards. Its a game man. Just becuase you found a hole dosnt mean it goes anywhere. I'm not trying to be rude but people seem to be taking this game WAY to seriously lately...

A witty signature.

I read it, and although your reasons and explanations aren't totally... reasonable... I believe there is something to the whole "quick jump" thing. Why didn't it take a week or more? Maybe we'll find out sometime...

If you didnt know, the books arnt exactly related to the game. It has been stated by bungie. It started with an author wanting to make a book. Now yes, some the things in books like the other Spartans and how Reach fell is probably truth. But i dont think bungie cares about slipspace. It takes time over long distances. The one that took like an hour covered hundreds of thousands of Kilometers.

True, but in Halo CE they did make it seem as if the jumps take some time. Everyone seemed a little relaxed before the Captain raised the alarm.

I think that the Clad still made a "long" jump.

1. MC and Johnson have time to get from the Pelican to the Orbital Drop pods.
2. Perhaps she was referring to a "quick jump" because there wasn't a lot of time for the crew or the pelican flights to prepare for it.
3. And, because it wasn't a jump initiated by In Amber Clad, all their sensors and communications may have been temporarily knocked off line, making it impossible for her to contact MC and Johnson.

There really is no precedent.

Darn that's good reasoning. I am stumped.

I think that it was a short jump. I don't have time to go over my reasoning right now, but I think that either Delta Halo is very close to earth(Way closer that Alpha Halo which was around 60 LY away) or the shards of the Reach Crystal had something to do with the timing of the jump.

I personally think you're reading into it a little too much, i mean, the transfer from halo 1 to halo 2, things were changed.

The slipspace rupture was made by the Covenant Carrier and the Covenant have always have faster slipspace drives.

Maybe the Clad just jumped and arrived right at Delta Halo.

Yes, but not that much faster. The Chief and the crew did get their hands on Ascendant Justice (A covenent ship) afterall, and jump several times with it.

It took 21 days for the PoA to reach Halo 04. It took the Ascendent Justice about 13 hours to return to Reach. This is all not to mention the data Cortana stole from the AJ to improve upon slipspace travel.

Does it honestly matter who made the jump? It's obvious that the carrier made the jump, but that wouldn't make for an instant arrival.
