First of all, I have to prove that the structure on Earth is MOST DEFINITELY the ark, and i have another reason why, aside from all the others:

When Bungie was interviewed about the Halo 3 trailer, the designers said that they stretched the horizon of real moving matter as far as they could "That's real stuff out there". They wouldn't waste weeks designing this epic scene, and have it NOT be the ark.

One more thing: "This is the way the world ends"

Does that not make it clear that the structure is the Ark, AND that it is activating the halos in the trailer?

Now, here's why the trailer gives away a major aspect of the conclusion of the game:

The reason that Bungie showed us the end of the world- the activation of all halos in the trailer, is because it WONT HAPPEN IN THE GAME. Trust me on this one. If the halos were activated at the end of Halo 3, then they MOST CERTAINLY would NOT show us the activation of the halos in a trailer. Bungie knew this, but still wanted us to see what the activation of all the halos would look like. Because of this, the world will NOT end in the game, and besides, if the world ended in the game, how is that a good ending?

Carrots.

WHy would bungie waste time creating the Halo 2 trailer where you faught agaisn't hordes of aliens and the trailer for Halo 1 where there was a huge cutscene, why would they make it if it was NOT the ARK!? You can't know, bungie never said, so screw your theory you have NOTHING to back it up except "Bungie did this so it must be the ark because they gave us a cutscene showing something" I mean, alot of scenes in Halo are dramatic, like when keyes dies, but you wont assume "OH MY GOD ITS A DRAMATIC SCENE NOW THE ARK IS GOING TO POP UP AND KILL US ALL".
Bungie can design a two minute trailer, and they can design a whole game, why would the ark be SO important in a dramatic scene than any other scene in Halo, huh?
Sir, I will take twelve of whatever the -blam!- your on.

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

bungie has said the trailer is 1/3 through the game not the end or an alternate ending. it may not be the ark, it might have something to do with it, or might be one entry/activation point that is being turned on but not activated

You should of made up your own instrument. You could have named it the PolarLighting -a-phone. People would buy it and they would all be like "Awh, He's so cool for inventing the PolarLighting-a-phone."

1. We aleady saw what the activation of a Halo looks like (Delta Halo did go off afterall).
2. They made that particular level huge to show off their engine. It is just one level that may not even make it into the final product, and there is no reason to hide the Ark (whatever it is) inside.
3. Concerning "This is the way the world ends". That was added for dramatic effect. It's Corana's voice telling the chief something important, putting stress on the relationship between the two of them. It was in both of the Halo 2 trailers.
4. Of coase that's not the ending. Why would Bungie give away the ending to what it most likely going to be the biggest game in history in a teaser trailer?

This post is supposed to contradict the "ITS SO OBVIOUS WHY DIDNT I THINK OF THIS BEFORE???" post, in that the Ark will not activate the halos in Halo 3- which is why bungie showed us this scene in the trailer- just to give us a "taste".

In halo 2, delta halo did not set off the other halos, it only set them up for remote detonation from the Ark, which is why the Ark is so important now.

i do agree that the ark isn't activating halos but i disagree that that bit won't be in the game, it has a purpose

Just to reitterate- i believe that in the trailer, the Ark IS in fact setting off the other halos, and i believe that this is shown in the trailer, because it WONT happen in the game. Bungie wants us to realize the importance and potential of the Ark, so that is why we see the Ark in the trailer activating the rings. This will make the phrase "Finish this fight" have much more meaning and value.

Your retaliation was well worded and made sense, but your original post is still bleh.

Nope. We have never seen a Halo go off, everyone was still alive remember? Keyes pulled out the index remember?

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

a blue blast = signal
a yellow blast= destruction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
when the ark is opened, perhaps it sends a signal to the halos, confirming standby status.

So you're basically saying that because Bungie showed us the Ark setting off all the other halos in the trailer, this WONT happen in the game?

Well, makes sense to me, i mean, why would bungie show an epic trailer that copies a scene out of the game? Seems like the trailer has two purposes:

1) to show us how earth is destroyed by the covenant occupance, and the covenant have discovered a structure below Africa's surface.
2) this structure (which we are assuming is the Ark), has the massive potential to activate all 7 halos at once, and destroy all life- "this is how the world ends".

They wouldnt just show us the activation of all halos in the trailer if it happens again in the game would they? Bungie likes to mix things up and surprise us, so i think something else unexpected will happen in the game.

Ah, but you just proved my point!

If the ark activates the halos- that MUST mean the end of the game right? (what is a game without life?) So the mere fact that you say it ISNT the end of the game suggests that halo WONT be activated. thank you iceman.

That trailer is a third of the way through the game. It's in one of the FAQ's. Now move on.

Delta Halo didnt go off, the process was stopped right before it was to go off. That sent out a message to all the other Rings to get ready, thats why the Covenant went to Earth, to trigger them all at once...

Who says the audio is from the same place in the game as the video? In fact, I'm guessing that the whole Cortana transmission is layered on top of the video in the trailer and that the two are from completely different parts in the game.

If Cortana's transmission is part of the game at all.

Halo doesnt kill people it kills there food giving us time to kill everyone before we starve to death

Or maybe since the ark is on earth (someone already said this) it does not affect the earth when the halos are activated

you kmow what i wanna see i wanna see the moon in space or maybe mars the covenant land on mars to set up there base and then it would be like starwars battle front two but one huge fight to take over eaither planet

On the second thought forget the mars idea.
