If the halos activate....all sentient life dies...and the flood starve...case closed.

But obviously something went wrong last time... Humans and all the Covenant races survived and managed to get to the Halos to release the flood. Maybe the Forerunner plan was flawed and the Flood can't be killed by starving them because life re-evolves...

Quick as a razor, sharp as a bullet.

case reopened...
the flood simply go into hibernation, hence the reason why the flood are still in halo.

We evolved from the tiny animals from the dinosaur age--something similar happened with the covenant, i assume

I guess not.

Still, shows a flaw in the forerunner plan.... Even if all the sentient life with enough bio-mass is destroyed. The next round of life becomes sentient, Develops space travel and encounters the flood. The plan doesn't work... the events of Halo 1 and 2 show that....

agreed...maybe they didn't know that the flood could hibernate.

EDIT: but if no sentient life was around to destroy them, what would kill the flood?

the sentinals. they are under each monitors control. can the monitors communticate with each other on difff halos, we don't know, but if 343 wanted to get rid of the flood he would have the sentinals destroy them but he doesn't. he wants the flood to be released, giving reason to activate the halos and kill of everything...so that he can rule alone.

no, they arent sentient, sentient beings think for themselves; they have minds

the halos dont kill the flood directly, it vaporizes their food.

this causes them to starve.

the reason there are still flood is cuz the forerunner were experimenting on them whilst in the halos and left them in hibernation. i assume they simply didnt have the time to worry about killing the sleeping specimens cuz they were dealing with mass suicide at the time

the reason there is still life in the universe is cuz the ark HAS to be a shelter of some sorts

True. I dunno. maybe the Halos DIDN'T activate. Maybe the forerunners just got completely wiped out by the flood, and only a few survived.

But if thats the case why is there sentient life on so many planets and why didn't flood come and destroy that life once they came out of the ark...

perhaps everything has developed an immunity. over 100,000years the covies and all else would still be amebas (spl?)

maybe the monitor does want them destroyed, if they have AI they think for themselves and the halos may shut the monitors down

Go play the first Halo about 3 times and make sure you listen to the story. VERY CAREFULLY.
If I recall, The Forerunner kept the Flood Alive because they might have needed them. A cure or something. you know how scientists keep samples of dangerous bacteria.

"Be careful! They're capable of tearing a man apart!"
"They're capable of falling over when shot."

My basic idea of whether something can die or not: If I can make you bleed I can make you die.

why would they keep them alive in all the halos then and not just 1?
