Subject: Should the community have elected spokespersons?

"Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not the truth."

-Marcus Aurelius

One of the things i've always admired about EVE online, was CCPs desicion to go above and beyond forums and arrange a community elected council as a route for players to make requests for changes and improvements to the game mechanics, presentation, and game content of Eve Online. With all the rumours flying around about destiny being a FPSMMO or Open World Sandbox game, do you think our community could benefit from a similar arrangement?

  • 10.12.2012 3:59 AM PDT

Oh hey look I found it. I bet that is what they are up too! But I think a SC Council would be awesome. Spawn031 showed me this thread the other day. Maybe they will add a 'Council' for the new hawtness. If they do then it is about time!!!

Edit: For Destiny? Hmm. Maybe. I would rather them set one up for the Seventh Column first.

They are not elected, because the plebeian masses cannot be trusted (and voting is just an illusion of social control anyway), but I direct your attention to YANW, the Mythic Members of Mythic Members: the most exclusive and influential group on bungie.net.

Mr. Thomas T. McGuffins is correct. We at YANW regularly act on behalf of the wider community. In fact Bungie sought our consultation on a number of issues this past year - ranging on which members we would like to win certain polls to sending each of us a detailed dossier on this new game of theirs, requestign feedback and the like.

Looking over the members it looks like a bunch of trolls. (IMHO).

Thanks dude :)

As I was saying.. an actual Bungie Community Council would be good. It should have been set up ages ago. Only Bungie can create it it.

“Strange,” mused the Director, as they turned away, “strange to think that even in Our Ford’s day most games were played without more apparatus than a ball or two and a few sticks and perhaps a bit of netting. imagine the folly of allowing people to play elaborate games which do nothing whatever to increase consumption.”

I have never been proven to have engaged in the actions you refer to as "trolling". I therefore find your allegations libellous in the extreme. I demand a full apology and retraction, else you shall be hearing from my lawyer.

As for this council, it should be elected by a poll in the community forum. No other election system is transparent enough.
However, I'm not sure we really need a formal council - we already have YANW, and the rest of you have the Community / games forums.

Still better than you.

.....most of you, at least.

No, because that would only contribute to the rampant elitism on this site, and no-one here can accurately represent the views of the majority anyway, because they have no incentive to do so consistently.

In a time long past, the armies of the dark came again to the lands of men. Their leaders became known as the fallen lords, and their terrible sorcery was without equal in the west.
In 30 years they reduced the civilized nations into carrion and ash. Until the free city of Madrigal alone defined them. An army gathered there, and a desperate battle was joined against the fallen
Heros were born in the fire and bloodshed of the wars which followed and their names and deeds will never be forgotten

I know some other groups that are far more "influential".

Bye.

We should have DeeJ pick a bunch of members, then have a poll to decide who the head member should be.

Let's just hope Ken doesn't rig it.

What would a community president/spokesperson really do?

YANW is already an established council that Bungie Employees like to post in.

There is no need for any new ones to be created.

We could just have an Optimatch forum again. I'm not sure about having a small group of people in the community essentially having a say in changing the game for everyone.
