"What are we holding on to, Sam?"
"That there's some good in this world, and it's worth fighting for."

So I'm on a 22 inch TV with a 60HZ refresh rate. I bought it a few years back before I even had a clue that something as minor as refresh rate would be able to affect gameplay. After some quick Google searching, it sounds like a 60HZ refrsh rate is about 18ms, which is nowhere near optimal. Apparently 5ms or less is what you're looking for. So I'm curious; how much does this really matter? Does it actually greatly improve gameplay, or is it just a tiny advantage, rather like having a wired controller?

Try to find a video comparison; it would probably help a lot.

global warming isn't proven and won't be - it's more of a political play for funding for "research"

Downgrade back to a tube tv for instant response time.

I'd say 18ms isn't a big deal. It all depends on what you're used to. If you go try to play on a different TV that has a ~60 ms response time, you'll suck and not really know why, whereas if you start on a 60 ms TV and get used to it, it won't be a problem.

If you go down to a old school tube TV after playing on a modern TV, though, you'll find that you absolutely kick ass, especially on snipe, because of the instantaneous response time. You can pick one up at Goodwill or such for twenty bucks.

Black Ops 2 I run two accounts warmup only at 1.97kdr...real is at 3.77. i'm in master division 4 league play. pm 4 clan inv...must have 2.5 kdr or better

No idea. I basically played handicapped...my legs fall asleep coz they hang over my bed and my neck breaks from having to support itself. although I finally got a headset :)

i used to play on SD tv and did great and not as great in HD...mostly because college has ate up my time the past couple years.

I'm trying to decide whether or not to do this; I'm playing very well on the TV I have now, but I'm curious how much of an advantage I would have otherwise. I can't seem to find a video comparison for this, though. Frustrating, but from what I've heard it's not a huge deal either way.

CRT is the master of all when it comes to gaming. I probably would suck even more if I got off my ass and bought a new slow inferior TV.

It is crazy how much of a difference it makes. But then I have to play in SD. I play badly, but at least it looks pretty.

I STILL can't find a video comparison. I'm really curious now if it would help me that much. I've heard that the human eye supposedly can't tell the difference below 8ms, but I dunno if that's true.

Like someone else said, sniping seems a lot more responsive.

The 5ms response time is just one of the factors anyway, there is more delay on HD screens in practice. I can't remember what the thread was called, but someone talked about why older screens seem better to play on.

All I know is, the best I ever was at Halo 3, was when I was playing on my old standard definition 32 inch tube tv. Ever since then I have played on an HD 40 inch and I have never matched my old skill. Maybe I didn't play as much later on, or MAYBE that SD TV gave me just that slight advantage I needed to out duel opponents.

it's funny that all of us find it easier to play on smaller and older TVs

So how much of a difference does it make with a monitor? Might be an easier option for me than picking up a tube TV, and I already have some decent monitors.....

It's not how fast your eyes see changes that you're worrying about when you look at response time

It's how soon the screen changes to the new view after you move your aim around

A slow response time means you see everything late and overcorrect your aim

idk how to explain it, but it's -blam!- horrible playing with bad response time. It's just annoying when you can't react correctly because the tv can't keep up. It's especially bad on halo 3. Everything feels slow and crappy. 100% go with the monitor if you want to play decently. I use my tv and I suck lol

THIS^ I find it difficult (not impossible) to 4 shot on anything above 5ms. And find it impossible to 4 shot on 30ms and up. I had the same problem, so I bought an ASUS 23" monitor and its much better, noticeable difference.

Maybe I will; although I got my 50 without many problems with the TV I'm using now; looks like it's roughly 14ms, which isn't great, but it's not awful.

Haven't seen you post in forever! <3
