Subject: Should Halo have a love story?

I just wanted to see what people think, should there ever be a love story in Halo? Obviously there are some that occur in novels I presume, but how about the Chief? Think he could do with a misses? (Cortana doesn't count...)

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

-blam!- no.

"If you treat people right, they will treat you right - ninety percent of the time."
-Franklin D. Roosevelt

"No soldier should be honored for doing what is expected."
-John-117

Well there was the Dare and Buck love story, also Captain Keyes and Halsey hooking up.

I can't see Master Chief having a love life.

When it comes to Halo it doesn't do so well with relationships. Bungie didn't do so well with Buck and Dare.

However if there is to be any romance again it should stick to the books, not the games.

-edit-

Oh and no woman is good enough for the Chief. Except perhaps maybe Kelly or Linda, but they're Spartan II's so they're out of the question.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

If you mean a conventional love story like Buck and Dare, then no. It was the largest detrimental factor to ODST in my opinion, an otherwise near-flawless story.

But if done in the right way, I think the relationship between John and Cortana can be pulled off beautifully. There's obviously an element of affection between them, Halo 3 showed exactly how critical Cortana is to the development of John as a character and I hope that Halo 4 takes this further.

It already does. I still think Chief has the imprint of the Didact and Cortana the imprint of the Librarian (via Halsey.) It's a 100,000 year love story.

Well I don't know about this; however, the closest thing I've ever read in the books that could lead to a romantic interest for John-117 was Linda-058.

There was some connection I saw when they were still kids on reach, and again when he saved her from the Unyielding Hierophant as she dangled from one leg, upside down, from a rope and shot 2 banshees down through the crack in their hull, while being cloaked by smoke from a fire below.

I mean, it's not a love story in the traditional sense, but when she awoke from her plasma burns to her spine she received from the battle aboard the station before they jumped to Alpha Halo, it was he could do to give some of the most apparent body language a spartan has. He was basically sobbing with joy that she was alive. It was beautiful.

Chief marries Cortana*

The Arbiter is the best man, and this is his speech:

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

Chief and romance would never work, it doesn't fit his character.

That would be amazing.

But, no offense to the 343i writers, but I doubt that someone could pull that off without something sounding really contrived. If they do pull that off, I...

I dunno. I'll swear complete allegiance and loyalty to M$?

By the time the last paragraph occurs in the canon... He could have seen her as a sister.

They were raised that way, as Spartan brothers and sisters. Also when you are raised with someone you tend to lose all thoughts of romance with them.

.

"Happiness is like glass, you might not always notice it but if you change your view and then that glass will sparkle when it reflects the light."

I always thought of Linda and Chief a good pair. Then again, it's Probably the brother and sister thing. The covenant seem to have too much love for each other. As of now, Chief and Cortana are probably the closest thing we have to love that is close to the main storyline. Guess we have to wait for Halo 4-6 for an answer.

I think a big maybe, I mean, anything is possible after all, so I personally say....why the hell not as long as it can be made to work or it's one that makes sense. Like for one, I don't think Chief/Cortana is at all likely, sorry, but I don't...never did buy that pairing, and I doubt I ever will, it's at least reasonable to a degree as the two of them have a close friendship...something like Chief/Kat or something way out of left field would not be acceptable or make sense.

...personally I've always shipped Master Chief with Kelly, pretty much from the moment I heard about Kelly actually, oddly enough, idk, something about the two of them just feels right. And it really feels an awful lot like some of the writers feel the same way, like in the one Halo Legends episode for instance. I think it rather obvious that Kelly at least has some feelings for John that go a little beyond friendship as she always seems more than a little concerned about him, like in Glasslands for instance, that's one of the first things she asks about as soon as contact is established with the outside world...and she's the only one asking >_>

Tell that to Team Black...the leader of that Spartan group and one of the other members were involved with each other at one point. And while that may be a general rule, pretty much no rule is one-hundred percent absolute in terms of social interactions or when it comes to human behavior and society...there are always those oddities that crop up. And factor in that there are over 75 kids amongst all of the Spartans.....I don't know about you, but even if I'm living with that many people and see them on a daily basis, I don't exactly start viewing them as family member necessarily...just become very close. Idk, there are waaay too many factors in the whole thing to say it goes one or the other or "this is where and how it is" >_>

  • 10.15.2012 9:34 PM PDT

Sure, why not? As long as they keep it fresh, instead of recycling all the romantic movie cliches we've seen, pretty much like in Halo 3: ODST. Quoting Mike Leonard's first impression of the Gravemind, watching the scene where Buck and Dare kissed had me "rolling my eyes hard enough to get motion sickness from seeing the back of the inside of my skull".

I always thought there was going to be something between Kat and... what was his name? Ah, yes, Carter, sorry, the cast in Reach was so forgettable. As I was saying, I always thought there would be something between them, but no, I guess the guy was saving all his emotions for the last mission, where he tells Noble Six that Cortana made the right decision choosing him. Flawless storytelling.

...When was it ever stated John is related to the Didact at all? Didn't the Forerunner Trilogy kind of shoot down the idea that humans are related to forerunners?
