Subject: Should Halo have a love story?

Online Gaming's pretty much like a zombie movie. There are a lot of mindless idiots roaming around but you find some survivors on the way.

It already does. I still think Chief has the imprint of the Didact and Cortana the imprint of the Librarian (via Halsey.) It's a 100,000 year love story.

...When was it ever stated John is related to the Didact at all? Didn't the Forerunner Trilogy kind of shoot down the idea that humans are related to forerunners?

I think he meant symbolically, not literally.

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

Thinking about it, we've had sideline relationships or at least hints at them in different halo games. You had the librarian and didact in halo 3 terminals, carter & Kat in reach (don't argue cause it's blindingly obvious) and forge and anders in halo wars.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

It was never really stated, it was just a theory that existed before the Forerunner trilogy changed things (although traces might remain). Without going to far into it (it's not the point of the thread), one of the strongest reasons was that Cortana chose John because his luck, which could have been the equivalent of the later more defined Geas.

It was strengthened by 343GS speaking to John as if he knew him (in the Control Room of 04), and the theme of the Iris viral (continuing what the Forerunner started).

Would be fun to discuss it on another thread though.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I could see a relationship between Kelly or Linda and John 117. Especially if Cortana *ahem* expires.

Halo has been developing from sci fi and mystery (CE) to drama (Halo 2) to action (Halo 3).

And there's an obvious relationship between Cortana and Chief.

But nothing ruins action genre then desecrating the hero's reputation with a love interest.

Furthermore, past attempts have proven to be weak: Dare, Kat.

Of course, it all comes down to execution. James Bond films prominently feature love interests which have been quite successful. I suppose with enough daring, it's possible in Halo but who has the guts to potentially ruin Halo's story? Maybe 343, but I doubt they'd go that far.

You got stuck by FalconStickr

In a way Halo has always had a love story. The MC and Cortana I feel are in love but not in any sort of physical way. Its a friendship style love.

  • 10.16.2012 2:26 PM PDT

It's too late for MC and Cortana anyway since Rampancy ~ Menopause.

I have returned from the Untamed Lands. MOAP is dead.

A Human-Elite hybrid would have been neat to see at the end of H3. Oh well.

By the time the last paragraph occurs in the canon... He could have seen her as a sister.

They were raised that way, as Spartan brothers and sisters. Also when you are raised with someone you tend to lose all thoughts of romance with them.

Tell that to Team Black...the leader of that Spartan group and one of the other members were involved with each other at one point. And while that may be a general rule, pretty much no rule is one-hundred percent absolute in terms of social interactions or when it comes to human behavior and society...there are always those oddities that crop up. And factor in that there are over 75 kids amongst all of the Spartans.....I don't know about you, but even if I'm living with that many people and see them on a daily basis, I don't exactly start viewing them as family member necessarily...just become very close. Idk, there are waaay too many factors in the whole thing to say it goes one or the other or "this is where and how it is" >_>
Oh it was just another possibility. It could very well be a romantic thing.

However all 75 kids had the same mother figure and the same "father" figure (Mendez, even though they don't view him as such, it's the closest thing they got). SO the 75 kids COULD see each other as siblings, with the exception of a few like Black Team.

It could go either way though.

There are so many biological hurdles that it's would be too much of a pain to type it out.

Point is, it's pretty much impossible. Joke or not.

Of course, I didn't mean to sound like I was trying to pick a fight or anything if I came across that way :/ Anyways, yeah, it definitely is a possibility...could easily go either way.

Not really. They've already had at least one, and is Halo ruined?

The love story in ODST was it's weakest point for sure.

Never said you were, but if Chief were to have a love interest in the game... It may turn out like ODST. In a game format it might not turn out so well.

Not even. I thought it was done quite well; Buck and Dare start off estranged, and it takes the annihilation of a planet to make them realise all that's important, coupled with some Divine Comedy analogies. I thought their voice actors had good chemistry too, which makes sense since Fillion and Helfer dated in real life.

So jealous of Fillion.

...What about the Didact and the Librarian? That was a love story, albeit tragic, and it played a huge role in the plot. And continues to do so.

But it is not the focus of the plot. That was part of their characters and it played a big part in how the events played out. However, the story never completely focused on the fact that the two loved eachother.

The guy I quoted said 'as long as it doesn't play a big factor in the games'. Not that it'd be the main focus.
