Stosh gave me HIVs. I am going to call his mother!

Wasn't there a love story in Halo 3? Shame that nobody notice.

No, ExcessiveFaun6 is not my real gamertag.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cortana: The message just repeats. "Regret, Regret, Regret."
Miranda: Any idea what it means?
Sgt. Johnson: Dear Humanity... we regret being alien bastards. We regret coming to Earth. And we most definitely regret that the Corps just blew up our raggedy-ass fleet!
Marines: Hoo-rah!

For me, the complex relationship that Cortana and Chief have is drastically better-suited to the game and my perception of the Chief. As someone else said, he's just not built for love in a conventional sense.

In memory of those fallen in the defense of Earth and her colonies.

-blam!- no.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

Between the Didact and Librarian, sure. I would like to see them expand on Bornstellar-Didact's newfound relationship with the Librarian in Silentium.

Buck and Dare? Why not? It'd make more sense than EDI and Joker in ME3. Which brings me to John and Cortana.

Pairing those two would be tantamount to horrid fanservice. The Spartan-IIs saw Halsey as more of a mother figure. For Chief to fall for Cortana would just be friggin creepy.

Keep the lovy-dovy crap out of my shooter. Save it for the novels, and none of that Contact Harvest -blam!- with Johnson. *shudders*

There was definitely some unresolved tension between John and the Arbiter.

How do you fall in love with an AI?

  • 10.18.2012 5:37 PM PDT

I'm Gourlay, I'm only here because I didn't know we had the option to leave.

There already is some, Chief and Cortana have a little something going on and then there was one with Gunny and the Recon Armor girl from Halo 3: ODST

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

What woman does he have to love?

@Darth Ra 7365

I know right, how is the Chief supposed to have some 'mojo time' with someone that's holographic?

Yeah, because women are attracted to skinny, short men with litte to no will, obviously.

Muscles? Height? Pffft... that's for losers.

There was a love story in the games. It was between Sergeant Johnson and every female soldier in all three games.

I owe you a beer, this has to be the best comment I've read in a while.

John has muscles, height, and is an utter sociopath with no life beyond butchering anything he's ordered to butcher.

Guess which one of those is kind of restricting when it comes to relationships.

He also knows friendship, and while he rarely (if ever) shows any kind of emotion, he certainly has feelings towards the people that surrounds him.

Calling him a 7 foot tall monster who knows nothing other than killing people is just too far-fetched.

Yes, he understands companionship, but it's more along the lines of allies than friends...except toward other Spartans, of course.

If a Spartan managed to get married and start a family, I doubt John-117 is incapable of doing the same.

Sure, there could be hundreds of reasons of why Maria managed to start a family while the rest of the Spartans were forced to fight the Human-Covenant war. It's a wild guess, I know, but to me, that segment of the Graphic Novel was meant to show that there's more than an endless war in their lives, and a Spartan is able to move on. Not really fond of the idea that Master Chief MUST die. Heck, that argument lacks of depth if I have to be honest, do they think that killing the Chief will stop Microsoft from milking the franchise? That they have a code of honor that once the Chief dies the Halo franchise will die with him? Give me a break.

Nope. He's undergone significant character development on that front since the Fall of Reach - faced with the prospect of being the last Spartan, he started to open himself up to others and realises that they're not so different after all; that's why he becomes friends with Johnson, form a close bond with Cortana and in Halo 3, develop his silent friendship with Thel (which for me was the best part of the game, I loved seeing all the subtle body language change from dislike to distrust to acceptance to friendship.)

He even mentions this sentiment in First Strike.

You mean Buck and Dare.
Perhaps you should look up their names before posting.

Linda-058, another 7-foot tall monster.

There already have been a few.

Buck and Dare
Halsey and Keyes
Johnson and that ONI chick with the completely out of place softpr0n scene at the end of Contact Harvest.
Lasky and "whats her name" in FuD

And then you've also got the pseudo-love relation between John and Cortana. I'm saying "pseudo" because I don't believe there is actual romantic love there, but a more emotional level. They show affection to each other and perhaps love each other, definately need each other, but there is no romance involved in any way.

So yes, there is room for romance. But it should be a bit more in the backseat in Halo.

A man like the Master Chief is a hero and a Spartan. It would be hard for me to believe that a normal human being could take his love. I could see John however being with and another Spartan, but a story like this not would be enjoyable to me. Chief is bigger than that and Cortana shall forever be his star-crossed lover. For she and only she knows what it's like to be him.

Also love are sometimes great in the Halo universe.love Buck and Dare's story line and i wish to know more of it. Dutch and his wife were also in in Halo:Hell Jumpers.

Wasn't there a halo 3 commercial with a flashback to his childhood. I don't remember the girls name, but they were close friends, and apparently he promised to marry her to keep her safe. I'm not sure if this is cannon but she became a marine, and he recognized her at some point during the invasion of Earth, but couldn't bring himself to tell her who he was. I don't think I would mind a halo love story if it was done the right way, and wasn't just pulled out of thin air but had some background in the cannon universe. Hence he knew the person before he became a spartan, or has worked closely with them. Even then it would be in a much later game, or maybe even just an element in a cut-scene, not an actual heavy plot element.

I feel like if they were introduce that character it could be a kind of chiefly love, i mean if you think about it this was someone he knew as a child, that still remembers who he was, one of the only links to his past. He had an actual friendship and as an adult it doesn't have to be a star crossed lovers plot-line, but more of a deep caring for someone, wanting to keep them safe (fits more with the chiefly persona) I don't really care if they do put it in,but it had better be emotional and in character if they do, I don't want the the chief undergoing radical personality alteration and hit his mid-life, holy crap im getting old gotta start a family, raise the kids, teach them to kill everything story-line...and no star crossed lovers...no...just no...
