"I wonder how much blood you can lose from superficial wounds before you die."
-Shishka

"A hero need not speak. When he is gone, the world will speak for him."
-Believe

All counter-arguments to evolution are based on a gross misunderstanding of the theory.

They did, and here's why:

-By offering players "cool" things that can only be obtained with gratuitous amounts of credits, a race was started, seeing who could unlock those things first.
-With the importance of credits so high in the social aspect of the game (eg. oh he has that expensive helmet, cool!) players began devoting a lot of their playtime to maximizing credit income.
-This resulted in "credit farming" and over-play of matchmaking.
-The existence of credit farming and matchmaking overplay created a gameplay experience which was very "rinse and repeat". The result of this - a boring game.
-Now, the game itself is very entertaining if you take the right avenues - custom games, forge. However the credit rewards system punishes players who have fun and rewards players who complete the same tasks over and over again.
-The heart of Halo 3, a very successful game, was it's custom games and forge. Both of those were stripped by the credit system of reach.
-As well, a credit-based ranking system was the nail in the coffin. A player who only wants to play custom games and forge with his buddies will find himself with some pretty lame armor and a low rank, wheras his friends who rinse-and-repeat daily challenges in matchmaking will be of a much more impressive rank with cooler armor.

The inclusion of a credit based armor and rank system creates a game that's not about "fun", but rather "wealth".

The same has happened in another game I bought recently. Resident Evil 6. Don't get me wrong, I love the game, but I found myself playing "Helena Ch.3" over and over again to rack up enough skill points to buy the best skills. That takes away from the experience immensely, and it has the same problem. Players who spend more time rinse-repeating will be better off than players who play for fun.

Its a shame really.

You must confront your inabilities
You must adjust to your capabilities

My friend never played Borderlands 1, yet he played with some friends to level up and cut through the story of Borderlands 2. He ruined the whole game by doing this. He now has two level 50's by farming the same boss over and over. My character is only level 44 because I take the time to enjoy the game's missions etc. People like my friend just don't understand...

Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

-blam!- all of you fanboys!

You are barely scratching the surface.

Credits can only take half the blame.

So who is responsible for the other half?

"As long as customs isn't ranked and people can't boost off of it..."

Can you guess which part of the community is responsible for that phrase?

Yep..
Insecure 'competitives'.
Dumbasses who get butthurt because someone isn't playing by the same rules as they are.
Everyone HAS TO PLAY BY THEIR RULES!
That's why customs has been given the shaft since Halo 2.

If customs was given proper treatment.
Matchmaking would fail.
Who cries when matchmaking fails?
Competitives!

Why do we all get 'forced' into matchmaking?
Because competitives aren't happy unless everyone is playing the same game as they are. Because if you aren't playing by the same rules as them. You are not worthy of comparing stats against.

So basically, have fun with matchmaking in Halo 4...dumbasses.
Some day, you'll all wake up to the reality of it all.

Here's the reality.

On the PC, with server browsers.
You know what happens if you find yourself in a server with skill levels far out of wack? You quit and find another server, or stick it out and get better.

Beats the hell out of being forced to play stupid maps and gametypes and people because of a game that wants to push matchmaking as the primary method of multiplayer just so they can continue to push the failed Truskill/ELO bull-blam!-.

TL:DR

-blam!- Competition!
-blam!- Leaderboards!
-blam!- Credits!
-blam!- Truskill!
-blam!- You!

You competitives need to go -blam!- yourself and shut the -blam!- up!
So that Halo can realize it's TRUE POTENTIAL!

~ Videogames are my favorite videogames ~

What if a person likes low ranking armor?
I think it's more a problem with the players than it is the system.

The Internet is an empowerment tool that's agnostic; it doesn't care about race, gender, or age.

If only this game had 1-50.

I almost agree with reachs need for a ranked system. However I do believe everyone should be able to reach top rank I just believe that there should be atleast one ranked gametype not like...lol. arena but more like lone wolves to allow those of us that want a ranked experience to get one.

Credits havent killed reach but they blam sure have killed objective gametypes, invasion etc when the payout is more the more kills you have or the longer the game goes on for. 343 need to change this and atleast do a grifball update were winning gives you more credits. Until that time reach will remain broken and the credit system will always be exploited.

I agree completely with you about custom games and forge. I was always invited to custom games and forge in reach but always used to reply no credits. I agree that halo 3 was awesome for both of these and I enjoyed many hours with loads of friends in custom games and forge.
The same can be said for games like forza 4 though if your a painter your a low driver level if your a driver your a high driver level. Its just what you ultimately like doing most as to how you play and rank up.

Still bungie.

Ever played CE multiplayer on the PC?
From the time when bungie knew gaming was about more than the cash.

CE had some great team play, people who would attack on force with a single hog ... it was the team who won ... not the individuals credits.

I find this theory laughable but I will give you one thing: sure there are plenty of players out there who care about rank and how pretty their spartan dolly can look.

Playing Reach was about just getting down on some Halo and having some fun.

There are some barbie games for thoes who want to accessorize correctly; maybe we should be criticizing Mattel for not releasing the FPS version of barbie paradise.

To some groups it was. Not everyone has the same experience in the game.
