<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

If I post a thread asking a question but no-one answers it and I really want an answer, would it be better to bump it or make a new thread?

  • 10.15.2012 4:05 AM PDT

I would just wait a while and make a new thread.

  • 10.15.2012 4:08 AM PDT

Who am I?

mah twitter

I would wait a while and then post something like "sorry for the bump, but I seriously need your help". Usually people react to that.

I also maintain that Chrome is weaksauce, and IE9 is fast and works very well

I don't think I have ever created a thread to ask a question, but if I did and it didn't get any replies, I would bump it 12 hours later. You know, try at a different time of day.

If the thread did not provoke a response that should be enough information for you, the OP.

Hello community, If you have any questions or concerns then please feel free to ask, whatever it may be and I will answer them to the best of my knowledge/ability. (It may not be THE answer you're looking for but AN answer is better than NO answer.)

KEEP CALM AND PLAY XBOX
Thank you.

I take it back. Bumping is a horrible idea.

Same here, but if I were you, I wouldn't post the same thread until a different day.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

This sounds like it would work best.

This world wants to drag you down... And the weight, that guilt they want to hang around your neck, you don’t have to carry it one more step. You think they won’t let you rest, but it’s not up to them. It never was.

I wonder what the OP would've done if no one posted in this thread, lol.

OT: Bumping is technically against the rules, but it's up to you. The only sensible alternative I see would be to re-post the thread question when the original is at the bottom of page 1, or is on page 2.

This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends,
This is the way the world ends;
Not with a bang but a whimper.

I would first bump the thread, but no more than once, and only if you are asking a serious question. That said, if you ask the question in the community forum, you will almost always get at least one answer before the thread drops off the page.

Neither. You could try PMing random people with your questions if you think the forumgoers have a high chance of knowing the answer. If you don't think the average forumgoer will know the answer, then you may be on the wrong website. You could try google maybe? This is the internet, you can find an answer to pretty much anything.

All thread creators "really want" replies to their thread, but that doesn't mean you should bump your own thread. When you bump your thread up, you bump every other thread down. It's not fair to everyone else who follows the rules.

Hope this answers your question!

I consider this a valid approach

Anyone but Foman. He smells like cheese.

Yep, ash said it. If nobody answers the question, it's fair to assume that there is either no interest or nobody knows the answer.

Recreating the thread at a different time of day when different folks are online is usually pretty harmless, as long as you're not spamming by making the thread over and over. If nobody can answer the question after the second time, it might be better to turn to a search engine or a questions-and-answers website like Yahoo Answers.

Bumping, however, is against the rules and tends to annoy people far more than a simple repost.

I fear I must say that I would rather see a thread bumped once or twice than see a thread reposted. But that's just me.
