Under normal circumstances the Flood would not have broken containment, so a "Reclaimer" could just walk through the Library and grab it uncontested, right? What purpose does it serve to have the Index in a research facility where the universe's most dangerous parasite is stored?

Also, another related nitpick. Why are there so many human flood armed with human weapons in the Library? Same goes for the Covies...the flood that should be stored there must have been a hundred thousand years old...or maybe they were flood that traveled to the library from other locations?

Eh, just something I was thinking about while playing through CE again in prep for H4.

The Covenant released the Flood by accident. I'm sure that by the time they tried to contain it a good number of them had been infected. As for the human combat forms I'm sure the marines were doing local hit and runs on the Covies but some probably encountered the Flood as well.

Uh, I didn't think that the Library was a storage or containment facility, I'd always thought the Flood had made their way there once they were released from containment in order to stop anyone from getting to and retrieving the Index...if that happens we all know it's game over for the Flood, the Library and securing the activation code to the only real threat to them would be one of the first priorities for them.

And if the Library was a containment facility, most of the Flood within it would have been of the Infection Form variety, there were incredibly few Combat Forms in containment, most of the Combat Forms we see in the games came from the UNSC and/or Covenant forces on and around the Halo Ring.

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

I'm more interested in knowing which door the Covenant opened that released the Flood? ... The door John opened was of the exact same type of door as the ones the infection forms easily bent open... What's up with that, did the Covnant turn of a containment/stasis/hard light field or something?

Remember the part where you first meet the flood? The first things attacking you are the Infection Forms. It's likely the particular breach in the library resulted in an outbreak of Infection forms, which then escalated once they infected hosts.

Remember the flood uses knowledge from it's hosts, so that's why you had combat forms using human and covenant weapons.

I'm not sure we saw all of that facility...anyways, yeah, I think the Covenant probably accidentally shut down some sort of stasis field or shield generator or something and this either woke the Flood up and/or allowed them to escape captivity.

It's been a while, but if I remember the Terminal's Story, The Libraries on the different Halos are where the Forerunners originally collected all the sentient species throughout the galaxy before sending them to the ark while the halo rings were fired. The Index, was a glorified USB stick with all their genetic data.

It's conceivable that Offensive Bias used the rings to store the Flood and research them as he continued his war against the Flood after the death of the Forerunners.

As for the abundance of weapons, well a flood soldier isn't a flood soldier without a host. Otherwise its the little blob that runs around. The Flood got their weapons from the bodies they took over.

Oh yeah, since somebody does not believe what YOU believe; that makes us vapid...
I cannot grasp that what you call "Something happened to nothing, and that nothing became something, and it was smaller than than a period."

Most likely. either that or the infection forms were 'dormant' until the Covenant came and woke them up.

Why can't we put Bungie Cards here?

Weren't they the dead marines that were killed before john encountered the flood for the first time?

The Flood isn't stored in the Library. They were from the Flood Containment Facility in the swamp.
