Is there any possibility that M$ will use servers for xbl by the time H3 comes out? I've been playing since day one. The one thing that keeps driving me away isn't the cheaters, playist or anything like that. It's when you can't get a kill because you are not host. Every time I play I get more and more disgusted. You know when you walk up to someone with a shotgun, shoot them at point blank range and then melee them and shoot them again they should die. Then they spin around and kill you in one second with a plasma rifle and smg. Or when you shoot someone in the eye with a sniper, duck behind a wall only to be shot through the wall by that person. If I ever give up H2 it will be because of that. When I'm host I can easily play with mid 30's. When I'm far from the host I'm lucky to go positive in the upper teens and lower twenties. I would be willing to pay more for xbl for M4 to install servers. Maybe atleast make it where the host is randomly picked. That way everyone gets a turn sooner or later. Instead of it always being the same people over and over and the rest of us get host once a month. So many weapons give the host such an advantage: pistol, battle rifle, sniper, shotgun...

Erm...well I guess anything is possible....

Random host?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

yes that is perfect logic, a game where the host has basic DSL would, of course, be lag free.......[/sarcasm]

think before you type!
the host is the person with the best connection, the better their connection, the less lag the other players experience.
the host advantage is just a side effect that bungie has explained many times.

dedicated servers would eliminate the host advantage, but would significantly create huge amounts of lag, so dedicated servers would remove a nusiance and replace it with a game-killing flaw

the 360 has much inproved networking compared to the orig xbox
so even though they would still have the host advantage in individually hosted games, it could be easily corrected or toned down a lot.

What I'm saying is that you download it from a server from Microsoft somewhere.

Ross is talking about central servers (Microsoft), the thread creator probally means dedicated servers (Bungie). The current match making system would not work with dedicated servers. Since it uses the gamers connection as host. I really hope the Match making system is scrapped or at least totally reformed. Dedicated servers should have been in halo 2, It would be a huge mistake if they arent in Halo 3.

Totally agree. But i no one knows if Bungie will buy dedicated servers. I hope so...

If this is true, and obviously I am not an expert in the field, then oh well. I haven't heard the thing about dedicated servers creating bad lag. That would obviously suck worse. I don't know how you would "tone down" the host but I'm sure people would cry about that also. I'm not a Bungie hater. I'm just frustrated with the host advantage.

Now I don't know what to believe. I just hope that people a lot smarter than me fix the problem. Granted, there are many other things to focus on also.

They really need to have them like EA games. But M$ probably won't based on the "sucess" of H2. It's pretty clear that they don't HAVE to do anything at this point, they know you're still gonna pay and play.

I will consider not getting live for Halo 3 without servers because cheaters are just going to ruin it for the first few months and then cheating will still be bad. I don't see the point in getting live if it's just going to be frustrating.
