I think it all pros and cons with this one:
Halo;
They were a lot more fun to be with. You always felt like a god when you get them farther than you did before the last time you tried the level. I also think they did a lot better at killing stuff in the first one. plus, when ever you got one with a sniper rifle, you saw the most amazing shots in your life! that guy would hit everything you put in fron of him! plus they looked really kick ass with the assault rifle. Yeah, they didn't have the neat peaking techniques that they have in the sequel, or as many cool catch-phrases or outbursts of hilariously twisted remarks about their allies and their bullet-riddled adversaries, but i still think they did more than they did in Halo 2. But you only got them for half the game...then you had to kill them...and i never saw that many working with me, let alone all in one area.. And you had ti kill them to get their gun....yeah that was bad... Plus there was a greater variety of them than there is in Halo 2.... and they looked cooler......way way cooler.... i want their helmet with the little green HUD screen.... they were soo cool...

Halo 2:
These guys behaved more like a team than they did in the first. hey were faster, smarter, safer to be around (when they didn't have a rocket launcher) and far more creative. But they really didn do too much damage on their enemies as they did in the first. But the upside was that you got to give and tacke weapons without using the ' wack and win' technique. plus it was cool to see an elite jump out of nowhere and shank a brute with a sword. Plus it was cool to have a diverse range of allies on the Arbiter missions. You got to work with the Elites and hunters and kill all the damn fuzzy brutes n stuff. plus working with the grunts was a blast. and being friends with a helljumper kicked ass too. so idk... But yeah it was cool to see your guys blow themselves up with the rocket launcher...they flew pretty far sometimes. and they were a lot quicker to spot enemies too. and you got friends throught the whole game, not just half, that was pretty sweet.....
So what do you think?

While it was nice having the AI guys around in Halo:CE, they just weren't very useful, except maybe just for cannon fodder or to take some of the heat off of you for a short time...very short time. They weren't independent enough. They would either die in 3.2 seconds or just be so useless that the enemies would just not bother with them and shoot exclusively at you. They would also do this thing where they just stop following you for whatever reason and just be stuck there because obviously people weigh about a million pounds in the future from all of the fast food or what have you. I must admit though, the guys with the sniper rifles were great, never missed a shot. Also it was a blast on that level, Assault on the control room I think, where you had a squad of about 12 marines and you had to make it across that large snowy area with ghosts, banshees, elites, and everything else coming after you, and that other level on the beach. Other than that, they were pretty useless. In Halo 2, however, they actually did enough damage to kill some of the enemies, though not many. They lasted alot longer, they used some good tactics...most of the time, they had a lot of funny comments, I liked how they could actually drive the vehicles this time around, although there's been rare instances in Halo:CE where a marine would inexplicable jump in a ghost. They generally just made you feel like you were in a real squad, moreso than in Halo. Although sometimes they did act a little retarded, like not jumping out of the way when a grenade was thrown at their feet, or running towards you when one stuck to them.

The ones in halo 2 are idiotic and they like betraying me for some odd reason and they crouch way to much. The ones in halo where cool yet sucidel <,<

Yeah. Like, in a week, how come a marine's armour changes? Freakish. They've gone from some sort of Advanced Warfighter looking dude, to an almost 'modern-day' soldier.

You know why the guys with snipers are so good? Because they never run outta ammo! Man, one time, with Sergeant Johnson and Stacker ridin' shotgun on my tank... They'd spend a whole clip on one elite!

You are forgetting about the arbiter's allies, the elites were awesome with active camo and the grunts too. I remember I got the two gruntss you start with in "The Arbiter" level to survive through bothe levels on Heroic, it was great to see the get lifted up into that phantom in the level "The Oracle" :D In addition, the vehicle AI is MUCH better. I remember in AOtCR a marine jumped in a ghost and nearly slaughtered half my marines by accident!

marines were very nifty in halo2. the seem to take cover quite often and have recharging health, so they are far more suited for going large distances by your side in halo2. i think their driving is worthless and i dont let them drive any hog unless im in another one. but ill usually just kill the other hog as a testament to how badly they were driving.

swapping weapons was the best feature for halo2. having a team of sniper marines was badass and a sure way to mow down elites. on the arbitor's side, elites were very nifty tho still fairly stupid. im playing as the arbitor right now with two plasma pistol totting grunts and a jackal with a carbine and a shield.

oh, they all died to an enforcer.

Well, on Halo 2 Legendary, I noticed something. When I played as the Arbiter, when I have Grunt and Elite allies, the Elites die within 3 seconds. But Grunts can take a big pounding. I can actually get one Grunt to survive all the way to the end of the level. I think Grunts have the most stamina out of any ally.

I admit they were alot more fun to be around in the first Halo but that didn't get my vote. I voted for Halo 2 support because they were a lot better at staying alive. That's what matter sto me. But Halo 1 is better overall imo.

Halo 1: Sniper Marines were extremely effective, it really depended on the situation and difficulty (often Heroic) for the Rifle Marines to actually be effective, unfortunately the Shotgun Marines were quite limited.

Halo 2: The new weapon feature for the Marines was almost made obsolete because how bad the A.I. was for both UNSC and Covenant, nor where they actually that effective, even when armed with sniper or powerhouse weapons. Grunt stamina is amazing though.

When I think of Halo:CE marines, The Truth and Reconciliation comes to mind. I loved how they worked the hallways on board the ship. When I played they were very tactically adept.
