Subject: Should the Bungie community be first to receive details on Destiny?

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

I believe this is what they are talking about.

I remember it being a big thing years ago when all non-embargoed Halo news was being broken on NeoGaf, and that rubbed some of bungie.net's long time members the wrong way. If I remember correctly, that was mostly Frankie and Shishka breaking news elsewhere, and urk was just starting part time.
2009, and I still have the thread saved. I almost linked it but it didn't seem appropriate.
I'd like to read that.

Yeah it would be really cool to be the first ones to know on here, but if we aren't it won't kill us and I'll still love Bungie just the same.

Just because we are the Bungie Community doesn't always mean we have to right to know everything. we should let Bungie decided how they are going to tell the world about their next game and if its us first then awesome and if not then awesome we will still hear about it.

Yes.

BUT we must remember, that the Bungie community does not equal the B.net community. The Bungie community is a larger group of people that love bungie, including us here (the core, as we have been called, but not the whole).

Therefore, details on Destiny should be revealed in a spectacular and glorious manner in the largest public medium available.

It would be nice but we're hardly entitled to anything.

Basically this.

I have no doubts that the news will be broken via the front page, but the idea that it won't be spread everywhere else simultaneously is kinda silly.

I do recall incidents in previous years where things were announced or further described prematurely on places like NeoGAF, but ultimately, I think DeeJ and urk intend on doing as they have been doing: posting on the front page, and announcing information in the Community Forum.

Of course, we may be seeing Bungie.next sooner than that, so there may be a place already being assigned for us to shout out about what's happening. We'll see.

Mythics should be first ;)
Hmmm. That'd sure make this here banhammer pretty interesting.
Release content to only Mythics.
They post content around.
What makes you think that we're kind and sharing?

;)

Also, they should do countdowns to any breaking news. That was a big hit.
I second this.

  • 10.17.2012 8:38 AM PDT

I doubt they'd announce it here instead of showing it at E3 or something. It would be nice if they did do something like post a few in game pictures after the reveal here before anywhere else or something like that.

Well, since they don't have a publisher that will pull the plug anymore... why not?

I acknowledge my user name is stupid. However, I promise I'm not.

Disclaimer: The latter is a lie.

I doubt we will, to be honest. I hope we do bur I can't see it happening.

"That's about all that can be said for plots, which anyway are just one thing after another, a what and a what and a what.

Now try how and why."

Really, I don't think people staying on bungie.net simply because they're expecting some sort of pat on the back are staying for the right reason.

I can't speak for everyone, but I feel as though Bungie has done plenty for us during darkness. Between the mail sacks, the contests, the breaking in interviews, and the various other shenanigans, it's not fair to say that Bungie has been ignoring us, nor would it be fair to say that they've somehow wronged us.

To be fair, I wouldn't be surprised if details on Bungie's next project are "exclusivly" released in some magazine that gets scanned and put up on neogaf or something similar. This might end up being an annoyance, but what can you do?

In the end, the whole idea of Bungie.net being some sort of exclusive club is ridiculous. Furthermore, Bungie isn't obligated to show you love just because you've stuck around, but they've shown love anyway.

Of course, all of this is moot because the real reward is having a significantly decreased likely hood of being put on the slingshot when it finally gets rolled out.

I'd like to read that.

Just now went and looked through that, it's weird now given that some then-employees now aren't and some then-community members are now employees.

For instance, reading the last two posts now, it looks like an employee came in and agreed with the OP and then a Mythic Member laid down the law and locked the thread. Very strange.

I wish to alight my eyeballs on this thread.

Nevermind, saw link.

Wow, BB was the OP.

Anyone who ever wonders why I think Shishka was an irrelevant jerk, please see the last post of that thread. Wow, he was such a dick.

Why is bashing Shishka such a popular trend recently?

Recently? I can only speak for myself, I never liked him in all of my 4.5 years here. I found him to be arrogant and abrasive. Couple that with the (in my opinion) irrelevant work he's done for Halo.

I think it's fair. After all, the fact that we're here shows that we're probably the most excited demographic for Destiny. I think that because of this, we should be the first to receive details on Destiny.

ALAN IS A BEAUTIFUL MAN!

What if...

Bungie released the info on Destiny here on Bnet, but not anywhere else. It would then be up to us to spread the news worldwide.

That is, if they can trust us to get the job done.

Also, RIP ~BB.

I'm gonna finish it. Just like Jigga did to the pyramid.

What point would that serve? Some gaming news website would just pick it up and share it to the world, there would go our "exclusivity".

It seems to me that if you're checking the site often enough, you will be likely among the first people to see the details, since they will probably be posted here, first. I would assume that people who check this site the most often are generally members of the community. Therefore, community members WILL get details about destiny first.

Yes, because we are the bungie community.

  • 10.18.2012 12:15 PM PDT

I would argue that everyone who receives the news will then automatically become part of the community.

Once heard, it cannot be unheard.
