I am alpha, i am omega.

I am the last of the primes.

Ok i don't know if you has seen, but the Unsc infinity rams and breaks a CCS battle cruiser in half (it's not a spoiler, it's from a spartan ops trailer). It made it look like a piece of scrap metal you get from the junk yard.

Where once UNSC ships were lambs to the slaughter to the covie ships, now it appears the hunter has become the hunted.

And is there any chance other ships got an upgrade because of this?

We should know better, because we are better.

However, the UNSC spent billions on the Infinity and it is still only a single ship. The Infinity may outclass most Covenant ships, but Covenant ships still outclass every other UNSC vessel. The Infinity is great, but it can't protect everything. Take it out and the UNSC goes back to prey.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

Not just that, it also crashes on Requiem only to leave shortly after (judging from the ViDocs). The structural integrity of that thing is freaking amazing.

  • 10.17.2012 4:21 PM PDT

It's one ship right now.

And RAMMING isn't the best way to fight. The best way to fight is the way it was done the Human-Covenant war.

At range... Which the Covies still have the upper hand in.

Because the Infinity is a prototype. It wasn't even finished until very recently and many of the tech included in it is brand new and untested (by humans).

Hey, uh, if you like vs threads, then check out this little group right here, if you have the time. It's pretty fun, just hop right in.

You watched Chronicle, didn't you?

But anyway, I'd assume they could do that with other ships too, provided they were big enough.

I came for Halo, but I heard the Tru7h, fought thru Carnage, and stayed for Bungie.

Halo 4 takes place seven years after the events of the Kilo-Five Trilogy (when Infinity was already near completion), correct? The UNSC may very well have installed the same advanced technology that is in Infinity into other ships within that time frame.

We've already seen a number of "refitted" Halcyons.

I was expecting this to happen from the moment I read First Strike and saw how, given a few minutes with Covenant technology, Cortana was able to improve its efficiency to the point where it could turn the tide of the war.

All that was stopping humanity was its looming extinction. Now that's out of the way, and we're going to Reclaim. I think it'll all end badly, since we're installing Forerunner technology and it does appear that the Forerunners are hostile to us.

We shouldn't be Reclaiming the Forerunners' technology, we should be Reclaiming our own. That's what Reclaimer means. I think there are surviving pockets of Ancient Human technology out there - just look at the ruins in Babysitter - we just need to leave the Orion Belt.

  • 10.18.2012 12:33 AM PDT

Tell that to Parangosky. Forerunner tech is too good an opportunity to pass on.

Though I am curious as to why Forerunners are so hostile to us. Are they jealous that we were chosen instead of them to hold the mantle, and are keen to prove their right?

All will be explained rather well on November 6th.

At least, from what I can see.

Ha! It's the same reason the Covenant waged war against humanity.

But yeah, that's how I see it too; they're probably trying to recalaim their place as top dog. It's probably as simple as that.

A lot of Reclaiming going on. Humanity should just denounce the title as Reclaimers and allow all other spacefaring title obsessives to argue it out. But then the Flood would probably be angry.. So on second thought..

Mendicant Bias didn't seem to think so when he sent us to Requiem to serve as an example of his redemption. I think the Didact and Requiem really is an isolated situation - he's been corrupted somehow, either by the Precursors, the Flood or the Master Builder. Right now I'm leaning towards the Flood, in light of the synopsis for Silentium. Perhaps he managed to seal himself in a Cryptum once more to slow the infection, and we accidentally wake him up and allow it to take hold again.

MB's sent John to Requiem to help the Didact, and I imagine that will play into his absolution. That's how I'm seeing it so far, anyway.

Edit: Could you link the trailer with the ramming? I haven't seen it.

I'm sure you're right about the Didact (Ur) being an isolated threat, and that all Forerunner probably aren't evil (there are blue too), but why couldn't he be acting out of his own behalf? I'm saying this cause I'm not sure the going into Cryptum to slow the infection theory covers how he treated his infection, if he was infected to begin with (although Silencium hints heavily towards it). The synthetic Promethean thing is probably the answer to that; his Cryptum is even colour coded accordingly.

The Precursors could be involved though. Does the not all Precursors are Flood theory still stand, or was that ever the case?

EDIT: damn, I went off topic again...

Primordial said the two are synonomous with each other, but we don't know what that means. But it seems clear the Precursors control the Flood.

About me: I am a vicious wolf of a man.

But really am sweet at heart. =)

The Infinity is ONI's trump card. They crammed pretty much every piece of Forerunner tech they could find into it. While it stands to reason that most UNSC ships have been upgraded slightly in the following years of the Human Covenant war, resources are still probably very scarce, not to mention there are dozens of human colonies apart from Earth with their own defense fleets unable to make the long journey to Earth or Martian shipyards to get upgrades.

Likely however, the only ships who have gotten real upgrades have been Halcyon class cruisers and likely any remaining Marathons, Midlothian/Tribal class destroyers, and possibly a few Charon or Paris class frigates for special ONI projects.

We know for sure that the Halcyon cruisers have probably gotten Pillar of Autumn style upgrades at least, due to the fact that in the Spartan Ops trailers the Infinity is being escorted by at least 2 of them matching it in speed easily, when originally their reactors could only put out 10% of a modern thruster system.

But I can only see the UNSC Navy improving in ship technology thanks to Engineers and Trelevan's secrets. One Engineer could likely improve the output of a MAC gun to very scary levels in a few hours, and now we've got what, a dozen of those guys and they can reproduce others.

I'm just sayin mate, i didn't mean for there to be any offense.

I wonder if Infinity could make an assault carrier it's -blam!-.

Not really. Remember what we've seen when a standard MAC round hits a Covenant ship? 90% of the time it plinks off their shields harmlessly. It takes 4 shots most of the time to kill a large Covenant ship. 3 for the shields and 1 to gut it.

I think it would take more then 1 hit to kill a large covie vessel.

Only five years, if I remember correctly. That being said, Infinity is still the most powerful human ship out there and if it goes down Humanity takes a major blow. Other ships like may have some advancements, but Infinity is still one-of-a-kind at the moment. Plus, with the ancient evil coming out of the woodwork, humanity probably won't hold onto the apex for long.

You saw that cutscene in Reach, right? Where they were all like, "OMG, firing a MAC in-atmosphere?!" ...followed by a largely unimpressive explosion.
