No. I think I think you should be warned only. The only real way to learn is when you eventually realise how stupid you look, that's how I learnt anyway. You just need to proof read your posts, I have just thought of a simple way to teach people this.

1.0 - A user posts with bad grammar
2.0 - Upgrade the report button with a field: Grammar, Spam, Off Topic ect
2.1 - Members can report the post as 'grammar'
3.0 - The post when reported for bad grammar would not be hidden but still show up in the ban/warn 'queue'
4.0 - A Ninja would then only have to look at the queue and warn the user
5.0 - With a grammar related warning an adaption to the post reply section would be done so that when they click 'submit' a box would pop up saying something like 'Have you proof-read your post?'
6.0 - The warning would last for a week
7.0 - Lesson learnt?

This method would require some alterations of the bungie.net system however it would mean that Ninjas wouldn't have to check every post for mistakes.

Okay, it says it's against the rules, but you won't be banned unless you're deliberately making it hard for being to read your posts, or you're doing something to be intentionally eye catching or annoying.

Bant.

TGP does have a point though, unless it's clearly unreadable then it should be alright.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

Posts in any language other than readable and intelligible Englishreadable and intelligible Englishreadable EnglishUnreadable = spam.
Spam = prohibited.
Prohibited = author of post with unreadable content validates ban.

If you can't read = everyone's posts are spam.

I don't always ban people but when I do I laugh uncontrollably...that's if I was a Forum Ninja.

Truth is a matter of perception.

The Button

Only if it's almost unreadable or completely unreadable or if it's like what the OP wrote.

Right now, Bricy would be banned.

If you routinely post with completely unreadable, misspelled shorthand, then you should be banned. But just having bad grammar shouldn't be bannable. If it was, we wouldn't have some of our favorite members.

But English wasn't my first language. :(

It would have to be really bad and consistant. Sometimes the goal of bad grammar is to make a point. amirite?

I, agree completely; it is of paramount. importance that we maintain a decent level of' grammer and spelling on B"net? However, we should accept that; many people on here speak english as their 2nd language & we should't penalise them for it.

^ This.

Consider the reasons why a person is banned from this community. I don't think it is within the ninjas' insight to catch the reason behind a poster's grammatical errors and spelling mistakes, most of the time. With obvious trolling, which has other issues, it is noticeable and should be dealt with. However, to think Bungie should ban young posters who are still attaining a full grasp of their language, -how old were you when you joined?- and posters for whom English is a second language lacks a certain empathy and understanding.

I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

Only if it's obviously on purpose. Some people just aren't very good English speakers, I don't think they should get punished for it.

Relevant?

You imply a level of control over Halo: Reach matchmaking that we no longer have. Or, in your vernacular, it isn't our shiznit anymore.

Exactly. A few mistakes is completely reasonable for someone with English as there second language. If you're making mistakes just to act immature then that would warrant a ban.

No, Unless it's so terrible that you could classify it as another language.

For example, people like yorkie and elmicker shouldn't be banned, despite the fact that they never capitalize their words (Unless elmicker copy+pastes something from wikipedia).

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Yes, it's annoying trying to decipher horrible spelling and grammar. Small mistakes are alright, but when a sizable amount of your post is errors, it's annoying and should be ban-able.

You read those posts?

My future is certain, I will one day fly away. All because I am saved from the penalty of sin. I know he lives.

Hopfully the new site update will come with a poster machine that has spell/gramer checker built right in. As for people being banned, I would say no. Not everyone is good at english. (heck i have used it all my life, and am terriable at it) So as long as it isn't off the wall bad, No.

But you could make the argument about people using it might be trolling. But I still say no. Like somone said earlier, if you are reading a post that is filled with to much garbage, you probably aren't going to read it anywayZ.
