before i say anything, i just wanna say excuse my spelling, i have a broken collarbone so im typing with my left arm only, whihc i find hared lol.

I have seen a lt of theories on why humans are forerunners, and along with my own ideas, i have come to a conclusion they have to be.

1. All the buildings and artifacs etc have a similar style to egyptian stuff, which is in africa.

2. As far as we know, the pillar of autum was the first to discover a halo, so how where human flood there, unless, theyd been there for a looooong time.

3. On the halos there are earth trees, no purple or blue trees etc lol.

4 The sentinals are similar to the cameras at the start of halo 2.

5.The humans are the only one that can use the index....

6. The ark is on/is earth....

There are other reasons i just cant rememberthem lol.

My theory:

Forerunners where humans, and the "Research facilities" like the heretic base, is where they where doing research on themselves, trying to enhance themselvs, or get rid of certain bacteria or something, but it backfired, mutating them, and it grew out of hand, so they created an ark, and the halos, and they chose a large selection of humans/forerunners to take cover in the ark,(like noah and his ark, he took cover in the ark to take cover from "the flood"...) closed it up, and activated the halos, wiping out the rest of humans.

Please dont flame me, if you dont have something nice to say, dont say anything ;D

nice theory, but the flood were encountered, not created
And your proof is? HBO states:
It is not known whether they were merely encountered, or created by the Forerunner for some purpose known only, as of yet, to themselves.
And by the way, stop with the bold text in all of your posts. Use the tags only when necessary, because I don't want them to go away like color did.

lol thx, but mayby the forerunners tried to cover up their mistake, by saying they found the flood, not created it...

yes sir..........Mr. dmbfan (dont hurt me)

and my all bold? i only did it i wanted to stand out.......im kind of a big deal :-)

Does your apartment smell of rich mahogany?

Anyway, I would consider HBO as the source for Halo information, so anybody that has "theories" should back up things using HBO.

Did you notice how I used bold there? That's how it's done.

i miss my all bold post already............have you moderators been watchin me or something?

but yeah, im the iceman, so i thought i should go above and beyond the regular "plain" posts...

that halosm site is alright, but ive milked that place dry of all info that is halo

so i thought: why make something that you know will ..........kill you?

thus it made sense that the flood were discovered and............(since GS said they were encountered in a book, does that mean we can safely say books are canon?) seeing as how GM is omnipresent and all and............lemme just stop there and let that soak in while i think of something else to save my argument

If you continue to act like you are somehow better than anybody else here, I will be.

Like HBO stated, we don't know. Humans constantly create things that will kill us, but we continue to do it anyway. Which book did Guilty Spark state this? Page number? Direct quote? Are you saying Guilty Spark or Gravemind (since you put GM)? Like I stated earlier, please present actual proof so we can all agree.

But people still get things incorrect, so I still suggest it.

From Halosm:

At one point in the Forerunner's history, they encountered the Flood. They fought, and retreated. When they had at last exhausted every tactical option, the Halo network was activated; as far as 343 Guilty Spark's data shows they, and all other sentient life in the galaxy, were all killed in the process.

ok i see what i did wrong, i kinda misinterpreted the word encountered. i suppose it could go either way

to go along with the whole "encounter" theme:

THis is from dictionary.com:

en·coun·ter ( P ) Pronunciation Key (n-kountr)
n.
A meeting, especially one that is unplanned, unexpected, or brief: a chance encounter in the park.

A hostile or adversarial confrontation; a contest: a tense naval encounter.
An often violent meeting; a clash.

v. en·coun·tered, en·coun·ter·ing, en·coun·ters
v. tr.
To meet, especially unexpectedly; come upon: encountered an old friend on the street.
To confront in battle or contention.
To come up against: encounter numerous obstacles.

v. intr.
To meet, especially unexpectedly.

based on the definition of the word encounter this leads me to believe that the forerunner were going about their way until the flood found and attacked them. the only thing that questions them meeting the flood (as opposed to creating them) is where did they come from?

( i can be both a clown and a good debater :-)

Now you have to wonder where in the hell HBO is getting their information. :-S

Anyway, if you continue to read around the comments on the page I referenced, there is no clue how The Flood and The Forerunners are connected. Damnit, why can't somebody be consistant for once? What we really need is a quote from the games or books, because they are the only real sources of information. Stupid HBO...

Edit: Using your definitions and the quote you had Iceman, I'd go with The Flood and The Forerunners battled in the "encounter".

i guess it then becomes a question on one's interpretation of the word "encounter."

unless youre one of the ninjas who actually know the story and youve been aware of this stuff all along............?

  • 06.28.2006 7:11 AM PDT

I am not one of those ninjas. I know nothing.
