Don't judge a book by its cover, unless it has bacon on the cover, then it is a good book.

RIP Halo 2: November 9, 2004-May 10, 2010
I was the 2nd to last person to get kicked off Halo 2, see the thread Here

I'd like a Thumbs up/thumbs down karma system. Pretty much like Reddit.

Half Man.
Half Horse.
Half Machine.
All "Jerk Who's Really Bad at Math."

PS
No, I do not want to join your clan/group.

Imagine for a moment that we have a "dislike" button.

I'm clicking the hell out of it.

  • 10.20.2012 1:17 PM PDT

I spend too much time here.. too much time indeed.

I tweet?

If I can't have my ignore feature, you can't have your "like" button. Dammit.

They call me graland.

No.

If we disagree, it's nothing personal, opinions are opinions.
Antagonizing me to build a false sense of worth is so damn cute.

Brighten your day with science.

Rep systems, even ones that are only positive, are rife with abuse.

It's a'me, Sesto

No, because if we get a like button, chances are, we will get a dislike button.

  • 10.20.2012 9:05 PM PDT

Break down, every single one of you.

Having a "like" button defeats the purpose of posting. I would rather have people discuss my topic than simply like it.

We aren't here to ruin your experience (Well Qbix is).

No. It's going to make me feel bad when my post doesn't receive likes but his does.

This is exactly the reason that a like button would not improve the forums. Sites like Reddit and Facebook are more of a "news" website.
That entirely depends on what perspective you're looking at content from. For instance, on Reddit there are two distinct "rating" options. There is one for the topic itself (which seems to be what you're referring to) and an option for each post in the comments section.

Posted by: Kr1egerdude
They benefit from like buttons because generally posts with more likes are better content, are then placed closer to the "frontpage" of the site, and ultimately seen by more people.
Yes, and that's generally because that's the content the people want to see. IIRC, that was also the same motivation the web team used to implement the ratings system for files.

The heart of Bungie.net is the discussion. To bump a thread to the top of the page someone needs to post.
And that's a problem with the forum software, and also something you neglected to mention earlier, especially in regard to Reddit, because on there you can sort comments by "best", "new", "hot", "controversial", and "old". You cannot do that here, so everyone's view of the forum and the posts within each topic is the same.

The posts contribute to the discussion while a like button does not.
Please explain what cameo_cream's post above contributes to this discussion that a like or rating button could not.

Who gives a flying -blam!- if it's abused? It's just a number next to one post. It does nothing for you unless you narcissistically link to it in your signature or something.

The argument of abuse is totally and completely irrelevant.

Good thing you gave lots of reasons and ideas to back up such a vague (and ridiculous) argument.

That's how all of the 'Like' threads are. I had a 100+ reply one myself. I'm used to it.

I'm just choosing to not expend unnecessary effort finding all of them and typing up well-written responses to not-so-thought-out, ignorant ideologies that people write-up because it's the popular thing to talk about. (I.E. the constant use of the words "elitism", "sycophancy", etc. that one would typically never use outside of BNet because they heard a few people use it in a thread once so "Up! That's the word to use for everything now!")

I remember when I used this space to put cool looking links to my chapters back in the day. I don't even know why I'm using it now. Why are you even reading this? You must be interested in me. Still reading?

LOL We can already do that with quote-posting and This-ing, and I've never seen anyone do that.

On December 1st, 2012, I met Neil deGrasse Tyson. I shook the man's hand, and even made him laugh. Not much else to do with my life now.

Actually, I'd really enjoy the presence of a "like" button. A "dislike" button wouldn't hurt either.

Still makes sense. Perhaps we should ban posting, too?
