I'm Gourlay, I'm only here because I didn't know we had the option to leave.

I keep seeing small sentences in threads like "when Halo 6 comes out" and "when Chief dies two games from now". We're only at Halo 4. Is 343 Industries already thinking about or in the process of making Halo 5 and 6 or going even higher? How far can you possible go with the Halo story without it seeming like a complete wast of time and money like Black Ops 2?

343i are making the Reclaimer trilogy. The whole point of a trilogy is three games/books/films. So that should answer your question of Halo 5 and 6.

343i said that Halo 5 is going to be the darkest Halo in the series and they also said they have the next 20 years of Halo planned.

Online Gaming's pretty much like a zombie movie. There are a lot of mindless idiots roaming around but you find some survivors on the way.

I've heard somewhere they have the main story line planned out for the rest of the trilogy, but don't quote me on it.

Microsoft has registered domain names and internal documents show they plan to make at least upto Halo 9...

They call Halo 4,5,6 the reclaimer trilogy. Don't know what Halo 7,8,9 will be called.

Just because they registered the domain names that doesn't mean that Halo 7, 8 and 9 is going to made. The domain names for COD Black Ops 1-11 have been registered, but I highly doubt they're going to make another 9 games of it...

Haters are going to hate.
Praisers are going to praise.

The Bungie Forums are what keeps my mind sharp and my fingers active, between writing my own movie scripts, drawing, and studying industrial design. At the moment I'm working on miniatures for a short movie that I'll hopefully be able to film once I've saved up for a camera... That's me, with the mug, trying to have a conversation with Konoko.

If 343i have any sense in them they ought to pull a KotOR and make a Forerunner/Ancient Humanity trilogy after this one. If there are to be any more trilogies that is.

At that point it wouldn't even have to be about the core thread of Halo, it could be about something with lower stakes. Lower when comparing to the fate of the galaxy, but just as high when it comes to the fate of those involved.

Here's an example just for the fun of it: the game is viewed/played from two perspectives: a young Forerunner, out enjoying the living cosmos; and a human being, who does stuff (ikd what they did). Their pathes somehow intertwine. But oh, no! a wild antagonist appears, what does he/she/it want? ...

This would be a great opportunity to change the pacing of the game; how often one defeats an enemy versus the time it takes to move arround the map, whilst seamlessly interacting with other gameplay elements.
/random dream.

I hope 343i will decrease the amount of exposure Halo as a franchise gets after this trilogy. Microsoft just has to find other franchises to fill in their gaps.

Well if they do make other Halo's Chief should die at one point in the trilogy, he can't keep going like this forever.

IMO if there's going to be Halo games following the Reclaimer Trilogy it should be either an RPG or a follow-up to Halo Wars.

Otherwise I think Halo should stop after Halo 6, I think it's be a perfect way to close the series once and for all on a high-note because really any threat after the Precursors would simply be dull in comparison.

This, and no one complains about Star Wars going on for almost half a century. If Halo is the Star Wars of videogames, I think it deserves a shot at expansion.

So long as they don't milk the current storyline. This one needs an end date.

I see where you are going, it would perhaps appear as dull, and it would probably be very hard to market, but as an example, I'll just say that I'd imagine that I'd be just as afraid of a tiger if was wearing jeans and a t-shirt, as I'd be before an alien being, if I wore full combat armour and wielded a gun. That's also one of the reasons I compared what I wished they would do, to KotOR. Even though it ended with a lot of high stakes, it was just as thrilling to play the parts where it was just oneself and a couple of other guys; none of which at that time where anywhere near the top of the food chain in the Star Wars universe.

I believe Halo could do that seeing as I--any many I've spoken to--enjoy solely exporing the various levels, as I enjoy the action. It's how the game feels just being there (Forerunner architecture, etc), and how it moves; in other words.

Setting it during the prime of the Ecumene would allow for that blank slate, but it would have to be a smaller project. And yes, it would be rpgish. All this would be if there were to be more games after 6.

EDIT: see it as a mix between Journey and KotOR in the Haloverse.

I think Halo should focus on some side stories. Like Grey Team and Gamma Company. That would be nice.

The only thing they could really do after that is make games to expand on the lore. And there's a lot of room for it. I personally would love to see a game focused on some big events in the covenant before the H/C war. The unification war between the prophets and elites that started the covenant, Grunt rebellions, taming of the Hunters, and I'm sure there's room for more interesting things.

It'd be cool to be able to see all the various planets and cultures of the other races.

But money and sales would change that. If Halo 4, 5, 6 sell millions you know Microsoft will keep it going.

It seems outlandish to us, but people thought Halo 3 would be the end of Master Chief and with Reach we would explore more stories.

I doubt they'd go to being an RPG and they sure as heck won't go the Halo Wars route. RTS strategy games are in decline, even Starcraft II is having a hard time maintaining players in the face of games like League of Legends etc. Not to mention they closed Ensemble Studios, their own studio that was one of the world's best RTS studios with such great games like Age of Empires.

Halo 4 is almost out. Halo 5 looks to be a launch title for the new generation and Halo 6 would fall sort in the middle of the next generation. If sales continue, this is MS, they'll bleed the FPS dry.
