Is that a serious question?

The art to good shooting lies in the ability to aim at where your opponent isn't, and miss.

Yeah the point of the rings is to stop the Flood, but the covenant are stupid and decided to base a religion arround them.

I've been around these parts for almost eight years now...wow! Maybe I should be concerned about that...

*Slap*

The forerunners made the rings, and their point is to wipe out all multi-cellular life in the galaxy, so that the flood has no means by which to spread, and eventually dies out. The rings have already been activated once, but have obviously not done a very good job...the Halo's are also meant to contain and study the flood.

The Covenant believe the forerunner's to be god's, most likely because it is the forerunner's technology that has led to every major advance in Covenant history. The Covenant are not to smart by themselves. If they had not found the forerunner technology, they'd most likely still be living in the dark ages without electricity on their home planets. THe Halo's are viewed as some of the most sacred relics left ehind by the forerunners.

The Covenant either didn't know, or refused to believe that the flood (which in Halo is the equivalint of sin) could be found in one of them mst holy artifacts in the universe. Upon their discovery on Halo, the Covenant's religious basis has been shaken to the core...

wrong`!` the reoson why they are trying to activate the rings is because they think if they activated the rings, they would be gods

No...they believe that Halo is the tool of their "rapture", which will deliver them from sin (the flood) and into the divine beyond, where the forerunner god's live. This is called the Great Journey, and it is said any truely loyal Covenant will be taken along when it comes.

The idea of eternal salvation for being loyal to the Covenant and eternal damnation for not is what keeps the Covenant caste's in line. Their zealous rage fuels their conquest.

But, I have a feeling that the Prophet of Truth realizes the fallacy of these beliefs...he is just playing off of the other race's zealous devotion to him to acheive personal gain.

The Covenant worship a lot mroe than just the rings...anything forerunner is percieved as a relic of the god's. That's why when the Covenant glass human inhabited worlds, they sometimes leave a portion un glassed. Because there is a forerunner artifact there.
