I'm sure Jul 'Mdama beats you to him and paints humanity in a pretty negative light, especially because they're responsible for the death of his wife and started and insurrection all that good stuff, so the Didact is naturally going to be pretty butthurt that the new holders of the mantle are bullying the Elites.
Yeah, can't wait to see how they portray Jul's character in Halo 4. An atheist elite in charge of a new covenant dominated by Forerunner worship... This bears thought.

I just hope they don't do what Combat Evolved did and have him awaken the "ancient evil" Don't get me wrong, I loved that about Halo 4, but I don't want to see a repeat of that event, albeit with different circumstances.

Honestly I'm not expecting Bungie style twists here. 343i don't have Staten.

That doesn't mean they can't do it. What I'm imagining for the reveal of the "ancient evil" is a massive battle between the Storm and the humans, and all of a sudden, the "insert name" appears and devastates both sides. But thats just me.

Look, I just wan't a great story for the game. To me, each Halo release is the Super-bowl/FIFA championship of gaming.

Only a Forerunner can open a Cryptum. Maybe Reclaimers can too. Either way, no Sangheili's opening that orb. My bet's on John being the one to unwittingly let the Didact loose.

Holy -blam!-... you might be right. Probably by the prometheans or reclaimers or whatever the -blam!- there called, as there final decision to keep order and balance in the universe before they were forced to flee the forerunners during the last moments of there war with them some 150 000 years ago.

I see it as all lifeforms vs the flood.
Maybe the flood was created as a test. To see who deserves the Mantle. Whoever defeats them gets to rule.

Evidence is pointing to having the didact involved somehow, but I'm not sure to what end yet. So I will leave you these two pieces of evidence:

1. In the newly released trailer it says "an ancient evil is awakens"...with a red icon that rotates behind it. That icon looks just like the ones used in the Halo 3 terminals. Specifically, the ones that contained the transmissions of Didact. Yes, they had different icons depending on who sent the transmissions.

2. In the IRIS campaign a data file named Array_Recorder_Data.txt was found on one of the servers used for the campaign. It contains transmissions from when Didact activated the array. The final transmissions in this log file are as follows:

{D-com} I feel no peril.
{D-com} No pain. No remorse. Is that normal?

Seems at least circumstantial that after 100,000 years, having destroyed all life in the galaxy, that didact may have some mental problems aka he's the ancient evil. He would have had the technological know how and the DNA samples of all races -- maybe he created the Promethians? but that seems like a stretch even to me.

Librarian should threaten him with no sex. He'll stop and be nice to humanity then.......Unless he finds out Bornstellar-Didact had sexy time with her. That would be awkward.

Librarian: Stop bullying humans, or your not touching this fine body again.

Didact: Fine, but I'm gonne wreck you so hard.

Librarian: Just not like 2 years ago didact, it hurt too much.

Didact: Wait i didn't come out of here until 2 weeks ago.

Librarian: It's not what you think, i was having sexy time with didact, just not you.

Didact: That damn builder been banging my wife.

Ot: I still think ur-didact is not the same as he was when he went to "sleep".

Can someone clarify who the Ur-didact is, or even what Ur means? I know that Bornstellar became the new Didact, but what happend to the old one?

I was hoping there would be a bungie style twist in there, but...

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

So is the Cryptum on auto pilot when Infinity lands on Requiem? 'Cause I don't see how the Didact can control it if he's napping.

Also, hopefully Silentium will tell us how/why he chose to sleep for 100K years until Halo 4.

SPOILERS

Just read the silentium intro, im amazed..
In the last years of the Forerunner empire, chaos rules. The Flood has arrived in force, aided by an unexpected ally. Internal strife within the ecumene has desperately weakened Forerunner defenses.
Too little, too late, the legal rate of Juridicals is only now investigating possible crimes by the Master Builder and others. Evidence-gathering agents known collectively as Catalog have been dispatched to collect testimony from the Librarian and both Didacts: the Ur-Didact, treacherously abandoned in a Flood-infested system, and the Bornstellar Didact, who accompanies the Librarian as she preserves specimens against the dire possibility of Halo extermination.

Facing the imminent collapse of their civilization, the Librarian and the UrDidact reveal what they know about the relationship between the long vanished Precursors and the Flood.

The Precursors created many technological species, including humanity and the Forerunners. But the roots of the Flood may be found in an act of enormous barbarity, carried out beyond our galaxy ten million years before...

Because of that barbarism, a greater evil looms. Only the Ur-Didact and the Librarian husband and wife pushed into desperate conflict hold the keys to a solution.

Facing the consequences of a mythic tragedy, one of them must now commit the greatest atrocity of all time to prevent an insane evil from dominating the entire universe.

I never knew that the didact (bornstellar) and the ur didact are different, i thought there was the original didact and the ur didact who is bornstellar, turns out to be different.

Also, if you look at silentium cover, there is a cryptum on the lower part....

So if Didact isn't the evil, and flood isn't. Then what is?

The game will tell you the basics of why he is in the cryptum. I wish Silentium came out before the game because it would clear up so much of whats in the game.
And from what i saw the didact isn't awake when Chief arrives.

US Coast Guard prepares for massive rescue mission after Iranian fleet sinks off shore. Reports say a small thunderstorm caused most of the ships to simply...fall apart.

No. He left him in a Flood-infested system.

This.

This wouldn't be the first time though. John was unwittingly led to believe that activating Installation 04 wouldn't have dire consequences, that it'd solve the Flood problem without involving anyone else.

The way I see it, either John's going to gain a higher degree of individuality due to his interactions with Cortana or he's going to be victim to his inheritance, easily maneuvered as a game changer, a tool, by both friend and foe.

 • 10.23.2012 8:46 PM PDT

new launch trailer came out and it pretty much shows john activating the cryptum.

I don't want to spoil the game for everyone but cryptum and primordial are important

Been gone for a long time, must say where did grey cobra and energy and all the former dudes go. Anyway, according to me humanity in reality is a threat, not as you seeit. I feel like silentium will explain why. For me it has to do with the precursors and our role in it. Maybe as we were the choosen heir a gamble was taken, but the didact after or before the firing of the ring learnt of the true danger of humanity. Maybe wanting to destroy us as we could be playing on the side of the precursors.

Raises a good point. what if humanity is the ancient evil and we are looking at it wrong

Well I wouldn't say our role as Precursor successors was set in stone judging by how the Primordial said we would rise in arrogance and be tested. Just saying, the whole "Humans are the ancient evil" seems a bit odd.
