Somebody I know said this on an offsite forum:
Yes, Bungie said THE CHIEF IS A CYBORG. Did you forget the carbide ceramic ossification, the catalytic thyroid implant, and the superconducting fibrification of neural dendrites? He has a skeleton coated in advanced metal, a platinum pellet in his thyroid, and he was pretty much jacked up by science. He isn't a terminator, but the Chief is still a cyborg. I might not have a Halo-related name, but I'm still a Halo fan and I know what I'm talking about.

Is this true? Because I don't believe it.

Cyborg=half human/half robot. That's what the MC is.

It is true, and the chief's biped file in Halo PC is named cyborg/cyborg(or cinematic).

It's in the code. It's true.

The Chief is a cyborg like RoboCop but on crack.

It would be nice if you could store a spare pistol in the Chief's thigh.

Hate to dissagree, but he is an enhanced human, not a cyborg--he doesn't have a robotic arm, for instance. He's completely human, just a jacked up human. yes, he is encased in futuristic armor, but there is still a human inside.

That's freakin great.

So what about his neural implant, that's like a machine in the back of his head. Wouldn't that technically make him sort-of cyborgish?

The chief is as much of a cyborg as a regular person with a prosthetic heart is...

I think it'd just be safest to call him a super-soldier and leave it at that.

Even though in Halo 1 there's a part called "AI Constructs and Cyborgs First".

  • 06.28.2006 4:14 PM PDT

technically, chief is not a cyborg, he is only a surgically enhanced human with a removable exoskeleton, the only machinery actually implanted IN him is a neural chip that is in his neck, other than that, they just made him into a super human.

but, for lack of a simple term for what he is (sugically enhanced super human is a little long...) just call him a cyborg

well, he is an enhanced human, but I don't think the term cyborg is exactly right word. However, according to dictionary.com, a cyborg is " human who has certain physiological processes aided or controlled by mechanical or electronic devices." And the Chief would defiantely fall into that category. I guess not all cyborgs are half robot.

It's a neural interface--it just interfaces--it's like RAM opposed to the hard drive--no moving parts n RAM, plenty in the Hard Drive.

The Neural Lace isn't a machine-it's kinda like a chip

He did have metal grafting put into his bones.

And I'm sure a few tooth fillings here and there.

Yeah, the chief's a cyborg, but he doesn't have robotic arms and stuff like that, just an implant in the back of his head. Most of the stuff done to him was with steroids and other medical stuff.

Metal--I have braces. Does that make me a cyborg? no, it's just metal.

Although I'm inclined to think the MC is human with genetic and cybernetic enhancements, the definintion of a cyborg is a human with cybernetic enhancements. The thing is, we don't think of him as a cyborg because he's a living person - most cyborgs are reanimated humans (like Robocop or even the Mark IV Cyborg from Marathon) rather than a living one. But he is technically a cyborg.

It's still a suit--just cause it interfaces insanely well doesn't make him a cyborg.
