Subject: New Gun Idea

When I am pinned down by Covies...I Take Grunts as Shields!

I have been drawing some guns that I think that would be cool in H3. My gun that I have come up with is called the AF66. Here is a link to the drawing

AF66 Version 2
AF66 Version 3

Oh and bare with me because this was done with MS Paint so it doesn't look as good as what I have done on paper. Also here are the specs:
Update on Specs:
* 5x Scope
* Shoots like the old BR, 1 shot when scoped and 3 shots when in normal vision. Your suit would know when to switch the gun to one shot and then back to burst
* It would be about 10% more powerful then the BR but with only a 30 ammo capacity
* It would be very accurate over long range
* With a longer stock it would be good for accurate shooting over long distances
* It's rounds would be AP or a new type of bullet.
* 11mm round
* 4 Normal shots to the head to kill, 6 scoped shots to the head to kill, 5 normal shots to body to kill, 9 scoped shots to kill

Thats about it. I will be open for CONSTRUCTIVE Critisism, and Feedback.

It would be a great gun for your imaginary game you are making right now. Now go get halo custom edition and 3ds max and make it real. Because bungie isnt going to put this into the game.

Baaaaad idea. Waaaay too overpowered. If it's stronger than a BR, than that's at least a 3 shot kill. That's bull.

Improvements AKA my rifle:

SemiAuto,3rb, full auto.
When scoped, only semiauto and 3rb
25%More powerful than BR (that's the same) with 30 Round clip
Acurate over medium and long range with scope
In full auto, it doesn't walk, but the longer you hold the trigger down the wilder it shoots (like in HCE)
Replaces BOTH the AR and H1 Pistol
Fires NATO 7.76 mike-mike HE rounds. High Explosive offer high damage as well as SOME penetration.

If you want power...well YOUR rifle shoots and 8.8 mm. The current BR shoots a 9.5. yours is LESS powerfull. So add some fancy jargon like HE to yours like mine to make t more powerful!!

It is only 25% more powerful, if I put HE rounds that would be like the pistol in Halo. I just for got to make the rounds more powerful, but if you really think about it FMJ with 8.8 is probaly 25% stronger then the BR round. It all balances out with lower ammo and all that. I asked for constructive critisism.

The design of the weapon leaves a lot to be desired out of a service weapon. Where I am assuming the clip goes, is brought down, adding to the bulk of the weapon and hindering movement on a tactical scale.

The reciever seems to large for the caliber the weapon seems to be (BR Caliber?). It seems a big husky to be carrying around (but I have nothing to judge it's size by). The trigger gaurd seems to take up a large amount of room from the hand grip, making it harder to hold.

The forearm grip seems to cumbersome, and would probably hinder the cooling of the barrel in situations where you would be putting a lot of rounds through. The weapon seems like it should be slimmer for a rifle, unless you planned to put more attachments on it. The scope mount seems like it should have an ammo counter (in Halo Tradition), although given the slope of the rail in context of the cheek plate doesn't seem like it would have a large enough display.

Overall, the size seems to big, and the reciever (where the clip goes) needs to be raised. There is no reason for it to protrude like that, not really a good idea in a combat situation. Unless you had an extended clip, which would help it stay stable in the receiver, helping the jamming problem. That, though wouldn't be neccesary in a 27 round clip.

Speaking of clip size, 20 rounds was the standard from WWII to Vietnam. I am sure in 2552 they have more rounds in the weapon. Even the BR has 36. I understand it is for balance, but at least round up to thirty, or down to twenty. If it is a lower number of rounds, then the rounds themselves must be heavy and higher caliber, which would make sense. Anyway, those were my observations.

Ok thanks guys, I will be updating with a new one, after I write this I am going straight to drawing one on a peice of paper, then drawing it using paint. I will take most of high truths ideas and put them into action, once I get my scanner I will show you what they look on paper. Also about the stock I am doing a lot of research into this gun and I will find what would be suited best for this gun.

How about something more original instead of a gun with bullets?

The Flash Glasser: Sorta like a rail gun but for the covenant, Flash Glasses whatever it hits, turning it to solid glass by superheating it with concetrated plasma. You can use it to make holes in walls to other pathways (flash glass a wall, then break through) Fire it at a a vehicle and it glass it, but not the person inside, who will be forced to bail (if in a banshee, it gets stuck around them and they shatter with it when it hits the ground).

The Forerunner Containment Rifle: Fires a large blue shield out in front of the user, reflecting bullets and any object moving fast enough (vehicles). If used on a person in close range, it surrounds the person and stops him from moving, allowing the other person to move him around at will and tapp use him as a melee weapon (press b and he swings gun like a hammer, with a person trapped in the beam he swings it like massive hammer that kills the person you hit and the person you hit him with. By pressing B then releasing the R button at the right time, you can throw your captured person like a projectile a the enemy.

The PJS (Personal Jet System): The answer to the Ranger elite, Spartan style. Shaped after the jet pack on the Gundam Wing Zero (Gundam Series) Its straps onto the back of a spartan and allows for complete unaltered flight that even rivals a banshee. Arial maneuvers and all, since it is a add on to the Mjolnir system, plugs right into the suit, no need for outside controls, so the user can still use any weapon he pleases. It makes the user super mobile, allowing for super fast movement, but can not take much damage, and shields the player in way.

The PES (personal energy system): For years the spartan's could carry much larger guns with much more destructive power, but lacked these guns lacked the energy needed to power them. The PES powers any of these guns, and adds a massive power jump the Mjolnir suit itself. IT takes up one weapon spot, as it wraps around the back and then down around the arms to the tips of the fingers. When selected as the weapon, it allows you to flip enemy vehicles at any time, jump 3x as high, run faster, and boost your sheilds output. It also allows you to hold any of three weapons. The personal gauss cannon, the energy cannon.... figure it out.

FAR too powerful. you're making it 25% stronger but taking away only 6 bullets, and how often do you empty a clip in a BR in the middle of battle? not that often, you finish a fight with maybe 15-20 shots left in it then take cover and re-load.

think about it, bungie have to put in loads of other guns too, so you cant just make a dream rifle or halo 3 will just become BR wars again.

thats my opinion anyway. at least you put the effort into designing one, unlike me lol.

Tex those are very good ideas, but I focus more on Human type weapons, but some of those are very good ideas. Especially the Glasser.

Unfortunately, 3DS MAX is no longer avaliable for free. You can get like a 30 day trial though. I would recommend GMAX which is a stripped down version of it, but it is still good. I think you can download it from game squid.

Well I am doing some research on guns, and making it 25% stonger would be good, I am also trying to find out ways on how to balance this gun out.

The weapon looks too bulky and inaccurate to be fitted with a scope, and would be very unmanagable to fir while standing. The trigger and handle are right next to the butt-plate, while all of the weight of the rifle is in the front, which would be very inaccurate. Coupled with the short barrel length, it would be an unsuitable rifle to issue to troops.

The Battle Rifle has a much more practicle design. The weight is focused on the shoulder, while the front is only the barrel and upper hand gaurd. The results would be a very balanced rifle front and bac and easier to steady.

8.8mm doesn't say much about the cartrige. You would need another demension for the length to give us an idea of how powerful it is. For instense, the Battle Rifle fires a 9.5x45mm cartige. It has a very low muzzle velocity, and is unsuitable for long range combat (despite the unrealistic properties of the round in the game). That's probably why the BR and the AR (7.62x54mm) would be about the same in power, since the same amount of gunpowder that is used to propel the 9.5mm would propel the lighter 7.62mm farther. Matters are worsened when you think about the 9.5 using such low amounts.

Oh, and FMJ and AP are the same. An AP cartrige is essentially a lead based bullet with a solid Uranium core and a Full metal jacket. Whereas High Explosive (HE) denotes the round's mushrooming capabilities, also known as a hollow point (HP). A "shredder round" is simply a hollow point with grooves cut down the middle to increase fragmentation when it hits a target, making a considerably bigger hole.

As I said I will be doing some research on it, but thanks for the help. I am not to sure about the bullets and that, I am in the process of making the stock longer and putting the wait close to the shoulder. The barrel goes into the frame so it is actually longer then it shows.
