Subject: How did master chief kill the flood?

Online Gaming's pretty much like a zombie movie. There are a lot of mindless idiots roaming around but you find some survivors on the way.

The marines in the very same level didn't.

The marines don't have energy shielding. Hence why they were the first to get infected.

Yes. But could one get through a sturdy boot?
It could certainly get through marine and brute armor. It's safe to assume it could get through a boot.

I'm aware of how the flood works.
Your last post tells me otherwise.

Exactly, but not by spores. They all got hit by Infection Forms, but the spores didn't seem to harm them at all.

Again, Infection Forms. Not to mention in High Charity there were armorless Brutes lying around that weren't infected, at least until Infection Forms showed up.

Parasitic species are a generic concept. I'm talking about the spores - yes, an Infection Form can get through armor, and yes, they were the reason the marines near the crashed ship were infected. The spores, on the other hand, don't appear to be as infectious as they're made out to be, seeing as how any regular human or jiralhanae can inhale loads of them at a time and not be bothered in the least.

Did you not see the marine at the start of the level getting swarmed by spores?

Again, Infection Forms.
Nope spores.

It's physical contact that triggers infection. Not inhalation.

There were Infection Forms that jumped on him.

Shouldn't he have been infected once the ship crashed and flung spores all over the place?

It's physical contact that triggers infection. Not inhalation.

And the Brutes were surrounded by Flood biomass, and thousands of Infection Forms, and trillions upon trillions of - you guessed it - spores. You'd have to be a goddamn ninja to walk into High Charity without touching a single spore. That's like trying to dodge rain during a thunderstorm.

Hm, I always thought they were spores.

I guess your right. The Flood's ability to infect is all over the place.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

Simple answer is that he didn't, he killed the Gravemind maybe but not The Flood. They will probably feature in Halo 4 somewhere, they'll definitely be in 5 and 6.

Only the Halo's stop the Flood but even then they've been fired once already and we still have Flood.

You can't really kill the flood with military methods other wise the Forunner would have never went into exiction. You can only control and contain Flood out breaks by starving them. So if the Flood has no food they go dormant until more food arrives.

Glory and fame, blood is our name!
Souls full of thunder, hearts of steel!
Killers of men, a warrior's friend!
Sworn to avenge our fallen brothers!
Sons of the gods, today we shall die.
Open Valhalla's door!
Let the battle begin, with swords in the wind! Hail Gods of War!

never mind

You don't get infected by inhalation. The "Spores" are the same thing as infection forms. R'Tas was just using a simpler word, as Elites tend to do. (They're rather primitive when it comes to wordplay)

That or the UNSC translation programs translate the Sangheli word for "Infection form" as Spore.

Boom.

Actually, on reflection, I remember Spark mentioning that you CAN get infected through inhalation. He says it in the Library.

Never mind then, I'm wrong.

I'm sorry but the picture is a higly magnified version of a spore which is similar to an infection form, but way smaller.
Spores are airborn (as you can see in the description).

Please please please please read the forerunner trilogy books about those pets of the humans/ prophets that got infected...
Spores =/= infection forms.

Wrong. The humans developed a cure for the flood before the forerunners DE-evolved them. I would bet this will somehow factor into how the new trilogy plays out. An ancient evil returns, ancient knowledge discovered. Wouldn't surprise me if they do it again.

There is a theory that the "cure" is not a cure, but merely the flood ignoring the humans because they were worthy (hence the forerunners were not)

I've read that. Seems like a lie to make them look away from that. Majority of Flood biomass destroyed, and they left because they wanted too...doubt it. They never stated if he lied to them. He did before.

I think inhaling spores just takes a bit longer to turn you while infection forms drastically speed up the process. I also think the amount of spores that enter you is a big factor, as in the motion comic streamed on Waypoint recently the marines became flood like a minute after getting cut by their claws.

But that brings up the question, how was the flood destroyed? There has to be at least a couple flood spores laying around, or neglected flood infected ships. Why would Gravemind do something so mindless as to pack every single trace of flood into a single area so they could be collectively obliterated? Maybe Halo 4/5 will address this. It says on the wiki if a single flood spore lands on a planet with life, it will start to multiply and terraform the ground and grow flood growth pods like you can see happening in the multiplayer map in Halo 3.
