Or did they just modify an already existing species? There doesn't seem to be an answer on the halopedia, so i was just wondering if you guys knew the answer to this.

"I may not be perfect, but always been true."

The Precursors created Forerunners and Men and the Flood, it is all related. Forerunners were deemed unworthy of the mantle and so, were going to be eradicated, but the Forerunners fought back and won somehow, then the Precursors made the Flood to test humanity and see if we were worthy, and we were, so they drew back and focused on the Forerunners... after we were de-evolved back to lemurs :c

I find it hard to believe that the Precursors could make an entirely new species, but looks like they did.

You can't create something from nothing. They had to start somewhere. However they probably just took a single cell and modified the DNA A LOT!

With the right technology, they could have easily created life. Nature did it, did it not?

With the Precursors being as advanced as they are, I'd say yes.

Humans today can modify bacteria. We have glow in the dark mice (I've seen it)!

So at the Precursors' level, they could very well heavily modify DNA to the point where it is a new species.

Seeing how closely related humans and forerunners are they were both, most likely, created form the same base structure. If they weren't the flood wouldn't have worked.

If Forerunners could alter the evolution of whole species, then I find it very likely that Precursors (who were a whole tier above the Forerunners as they were cataloged Tier 0 [with the Forerunners being Tier 1 as well as Ancient Humanity and Covenant/UNSC being Tier 2/3 respectively]) could create it.

Create? If you want to call it that. I see it has modification of existing materials.

But they had to start somewhere. Even a "blank" cell counts as starting material.

They didn not just poof up material from nowhere.

I believe the flood was created to test all the species the precursors created. they were created before the forerunners and humans were. I don't think the forerunners were the first species they created, think they had been doing this for longer then we think.

Also weren't the flood sent on the forerunners but humans encountered them first and thats why they didn't start to wipe out the human race.

No, we mean created the life from scratch. Not modifying existing cells, but actually creating life from the ground up, right down to the carbons and amino acids.

Their technology was limitless, doing this does not seem like a stretch.

That's still making something out of something.

My original point was that you can't make something out of nothing.

So yes, they may be modifying and rearrange atoms to create life. I used a cell merely as an example. My point is they started somewhere.
