Hello, community! Tired of the gaps of darkness between Monday and Friday? Breaking-in articles and random gold septagons not filling your hunger for communty activity? Well, we have something to satisfy your hunger! Welcome to the first installment of Bungie Community Wednesdays.
Community Thread Spotlight:
This week one thread really caught my attention. I present to you: Breaking In: The Community Forum
This week Helveck personifiied the community forum in a way that would make DeeJ proud by giving us a breaking in article for the septagon itself. Nice job, Helveck!
Chapter Spotlight:
This week we scavengend through the classifieds to find you all an interesting group to be part of. We give you, The Breakdown. We hand-picked this group from the classifieds forum becaus their ad caught our attention. Want your thread highlighted? Create a thread in the classifieds and your group may get a spotlight of its own next week!
Community Reflection:
Here is something we would like to make a weekly tradition. We would like for one member from the communty create an article for us that reflects their time here on bungie.net. This week we have chosen a full time ninja and part time cowboy. Tell em', Brycipoo.
Well apparently since I sent this idea to Chorrizo he wanted me to do the first one. Apparently he wants to me to go into my time on bnet and what it has meant to me and such. Well, I'm going to do my best to keep as many lame/stupid jokes out of this as possible. But if you do seem some, just bare with me and continue reading.
Well first I guess I will just start with going through my history of Bungie.net. Though I don't really think of my self as an "old member" I will do my best to talk about the history I do have. When I first started out I was mainly posting in game forums and the flood. I would post one of these very old threads of mine but I don't have any really old ones saved.
But yeah, I will post a thread that is still one of my favorites to this day "Who is the Best Looking Forum Ninja?". Honestly I have absolutely no idea why that thread even popped in my head, but it was very entertaining. But it really doesn't have anything to do with how I really got "in" the community.
By being "in" the community I mean really getting involved and working/playing with other members. My first step into being "in" the community was when I joined the community carnage group when Tom T was starting it up again. I remember playing in the first couple "testing game nights" where they were testing maps/games to play for the community carnages.
This was actually the first time I ever started playing with members from Bungie.net on Xbox Live. Then later I took it a step further by even running a game testing night by my self. It was really cool actually, getting to know the community by testing maps for 4 hours straight (With 90% of them being completely terrible). It was really the first time that I really started feeling "part" of the community.
Not only that but it is actually where I met some really cool members. Like Stealthsniper, contrary to popular belief is actually a pretty cool guy. Also, Tom will probably never let me live this down... but when I first played with him the whole time I was thinking "OHMYGOSH I'M ACTUALLY PLAYING WITH TOM T!!!!" of course I never expressed this to him. I wasn't planning on it either....
Well after a while I went from being into the community carnages into looking for other ways to help out in the community. I ended up getting a gig being an interviewer for The Community Joes. It was a pretty good job actually, I had a blast doing it. I also earned a lot of respect for Primo84. I did interviews for them for a while until Clone outcast got really busy and stopped having time for it. (obviously now someone else has taken over and it is up and running again)
After that I helped a rather good friend of mine Commanderp.. err I mean Commander GX with "The Weekly Review". For the first time in all these years I will finally announce what I actually did... I was the interviewer. Not really much of a surprise especially since the last one we did was me interviewing my self. Though apparently it is impossible to fine with the search bar or with google.
After that I created the "Bungie.net Members list thread" which became a lot more popular than I expected. The ironic thing is it was one of the threads I have put the least amount of thought into before hand. I also will admit, other then being neat to look at, it is rather stupid/pointless.
Then now, I am currently doing this, rambling on about my experiences hoping to make people actually intrigued by me. But now, it is time for me to rage about some stuff I hate about Bungie.net.
One of the things I noticed is the threads that become the most popular are stupid/kind-of-funny. But threads people actually put a lot of thought into get maybe 10 replies then die into the abyss of stupidity. I swear over the years I have seen a lot of really good well thought out threads die with a lot less attention then they deserve. A lot of these threads being created by none other than spawn.
While I'm just rambling and going into random topics I think I will talk about one of my favorite thing son Bungie.net. That is how a lot of people on here have the same taste in music as a I do. I'm really into bands like Thrice, O'Brother, and Moving Mountains. While most people I know IRL are not into the music and even say things like "I don't care about meanings behind songs" it is really frustrating. I can't stand people who are so immature in their music taste where all they want is cool beats and catchy tunes. But on here I have found many people who have the same type of music taste I do, and it really nice knowing not everyone has terrible taste in music.
Now for you faithful readers who have read everything to this point I thank you, and to those who just skipped to this point I thank you for pretending like you did read it. But before I go I want to ask you the community one question What is something you and the community have in common that your real life friends don't?
Shout Outs: Phoenix1710, Mass Craziness, ALI217, and.. uh.. Consol embu Though he hasn't played with me on Xbox Live in a long time. *glares*
Community Q&A:
For the last section of our program we'd like to get some input from you, the community. We are going to drop these questions for you to answer and the best ones will be selected for next week's issue. Think of this as a sort of Community reverse mail sack. Have at it.
How would you describe the members of our community?
What do you think of DeeJ's weekly mailsacks?
What was your favorite part of last week's mail sack?
If you were the webmaster for the day what would you do?
What keeps you coming back to b.net?
Who's your favorite member here on b.net?
What would your avatar be if you were a forum ninja?
If you could have any colored text what would it be and why?
If you could change one thing about the mail sack what would it be?
That concludes the first edition of our Bungie Community Wednesdays, we really hope you enjoyed it. If you have any suggestions on how we could improve these, please leave a resonse here or PM me and we will work on it.
