Halo: Reach is the beginning of a new age for gaming.
It proves that developers can get away with punishing their players instead of fixing their game....and yet the fanboys will still sing praises to them.

Nothing more... nothing less.
Any ranking system you come up with, can be circumvented. Making it almost worthless to even include in the equation.
Hey, I got this idea.
It's a push towards the attempt to make every match "feel" like the skill levels are just about even regardless of peoples actual skill levels.
You know what it is?
It's called putting the better players in check and raising the difficulty for them. Instead of handing wins to them via a silver plater. (Killstreaks, Zero Bloom)
Do any of you "Skill Gap"er's play on Legendary difficulty?
WHY?!?!?!?!
Then why the -blam!- would you -blam!- so much about something as insignificant as Bloom and Armor Abilities?
Bloom is basically, stimulating the difficulty for you.
So that stomping on noobs doesn't become a bore fest.
Armor Lock, is the same form of stimulation.
The only part where it failed. Is it gave you the option to use those "Crutches" as well.
IF you ask me, anyone who's pulling near 2.0+ K/D ratios w/ 75%+ or better W/L during games, needs to be put in check. If your pulling 3.0+ K/D's and 90% wins. How the -blam!- do you get off in -blam!-ing about anything? Obviously the difficulty in multiplayer is not high enough for you.
Competitive: "It's perfectly OK to let the AI have advantages to challenge my AWESOME SKILLS!!! I pick legendary difficulty because I'm a Halo GOD!!!! But -blam!- human players. If they suck and can't challenge me, leave it be, so I can pad my K/D on them while jerking off to the controller vibrations!"
Even if you are pulling a 1.5, you obviously are not being challenged by the rest of the players out there on the internet. Time to up the difficulty on you. Since we can't gaurantee people won't cheat whatever ranking system we create... what option is left?
CoD deserves a mention.. simply because of how much gamers CRIED about deathstreaks!

You people and your -blam!- skill gap, is basically the same -blam!- stupidity as the Killstreak/Deathstreak argument.
The perfect FPS game...is gonna take a player that goes 30-0 and -blam!-s all over him make to make him go 30-15 instead. Thats what you call catering the difficulty to the player.
If it was really up to me. Anyone who's been sitting in a banshee all game flipping over spawns. Would have the banshee just randomly explode out from under him. If your opponents are incapable of doing it. The game should do it.
It's better to have games go 49-50 as oppsed to a 10-50 scenario. Even if the game had to artificially stimulate the "skill gap" to do so.
Bloom was nothing, it had about the worth of a .25 in terms of a stimulus package.
