Subject: Forward Unto Dawn Episode 4

I'm Gourlay, I'm only here because I didn't know we had the option to leave.

So the Chief is now in the live action series and was kicking some major butt. What did you guys think?

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

I liked it, left me wanting more.

Seeing all the dead cadets, and odsts and marines made me mad.

I run Skirmish!!!

It became really corny when masterchief came into the picture, i lol'd a little bit. Now i know though why no director has decided to make a halo movie

I have to disagree with you mostly. I think that the FUD series is a potential gateway to a Halo movie being made. In fact, when you think about it, FUD is a Halo movie once it has all been edited together in the Limited Edition of Halo 4.

But I must agree with you on the Master Chief entrance. I did expect him to say "Come with me if you want to live".

Reach for Halo!

I really like the invisible elites, and how the director played it with the mirages, the brushing of the shields on the walls, breathing on the glasses (before an awesome death scene), and especially the footstep...but why did Vickers have to die. I really liked the way he and Lasky were starting to bond.

Weston Ballard

I really enjoyed this episode. I think it really doesn't feel like the chief I know from the games.

I don't think chief would ever say "Call me Master Chief." He would just ignore them or say "Nevermind that."

Overall I really enjoyed this episode, but Chief talked too much and when he did, it didn't feel like him.

  • 10.26.2012 3:47 PM PDT

I'm not a fan of this series. Chief should be main character. its pretty much the fall of reach from marines POV. this episode was better bc it had action but rather disappointed so far.

I agree that Forward unto dawn is a start to a movie, but my reasons for why a halo movie could never be made that i got from the series, was that master chief could potentially be portrayed as a really corny character like in the series.

Anyone who has played halo knows he is a man of a few words when speaking to non-commanders, even when speaking to commanders he does not say much. SO why would he stand there in a corridor answering questions and saying corny lines to a few cadets when the planet is falling quickly?

Then when he runs off to draw the fire of the jackals on the roof top, it was awkward when he ran off first then used his pistol after coming back when he could have done that in the first place. Masterchief would never have to run off for 5ish jackals

I liked the covenant part in the series a lot, they did a REALLY GOOD job on that but the portrayal of masterchief was nothing like the games and turned out to be corny...

What I don't like is 343 putting "their" Elites in this time period of the lore. The Spec Ops Elites look like the ones from the Storn rather than the ones from the Covenant. I think it goes against what the Covenant really should look like.

While it had great effects, I just don't like how instead of having "regular" Covenant armour, 343 swapped in their "Storm" armour as if the Covenant had used that all along.

Remember Reach
Halo fan since the beginning
R.I.P. Bungie involvement with Halo

The point of this series to explain the back story leading up to Halo 4, Also this is not "pretty much the fall of reach from marines POV" because the Military academy they are attending at this moment is much like ROTC, or officer training. Laskey plays a crucial part in the beginning of Halo 4 because he intercepts the distress beacon that Cortanna sends out. It is actually good that Master Chief is not the main focus of this series because he gets all of the limelight in the actual games, and it is a breath of fresh air to have a side story that's main focus is not on the Chief.

Easter Egg Hunter. Apprentice Tricker/Glitcher (learning from Grumpy and Sliding Ghost).

Trying to get Waypoint to update Halo 3 stats in detail like here. Now no one can see that my Halo 3 Spartan no longer looks like my Reach Spartan.

Really want to be a Heroic member or have a title. :/

Loved it. My four favorite cadets are the ones that survived somehow. I just wish that they used the classic MC helmet, Spec Ops armor, etc. I know that it is supposed to advertise Halo 4, but that doesn't mean they have to switch up the actual look of the armor.

And actually, what's even worse is 343 effed up their ranking system for Elites. Those spec ops Elites are labeled as commanders in Halo 4, the head cheeses.

No. No, no, NO, NO, NO. NO! NO! NO!.

WTF!

I don't like it, and I don't see why the Elites in the Storm would change their ranking system like that.

I couldn't agree more. What really got me was his voice, it just didn't feel right to me. I knew going into the series that Steve Downes wouldn't be voicing chief, but I was still disappointed.

It just didn't sound or feel like the chief I knew. Even microsoft sam could have done a better job...

We should know better, because we are better.

Pretty good. The 'Call me Master Chief' line was bad, but it was good overall. Except for Chief's squeaking feet. That was really anything especially when there is no music or dialogue and all you can hear is that squeaking.

"Where ere thou hast been, here or in yon world manifest? Canst thou tell what is, or what was, or what is to come? No thing shall last. Yet there are some things that will never change. History is written in blood, yet are battles really lost on the battlefield? Canst thou tell me where thou comest, and where thou goest, and what is, or what was, or what will be? For everything remains, AS IT NEVER WAS."

Not only did they kill her, if you watch where her body falls off-shot, she blows up from the Needler rounds.

At this point in the timeline, the Elite that we're seeing is a Covenant SpecOps Elite. You can tell this from the massive use of active camo. In 2556, the Storm Covenant is equipped with older technology and armor. What they call Zealots use what apparently used to be SpecOps armor. So in reality, it works.

Not really. The armor design is "Storm" in nature as opposed to "Covenant". It's spiky rather than smooth.
