Subject: Bungie Aerospace

Hi I'm RT and I like to argue!

You all remember this, right? The cool new program by which Bungie would lend AAA-class development resources to smaller devs?

Yeah, so how's that going?

The website is as it was at launch.
Last Twitter post was on November 18, 2011.

Your thoughts on the cause, Septagon? A slow stream of incoming submissions to vet and support? A temporary shift in priorities as Destiny nears completion? Or a lackluster start with the first game that has them reconsidering if this is a worthwhile endeavor?

Please discuss and thank you.

No, thank you RighteousTyrant.

I'd like to still think that Bungie Aerospace is up and kicking, but is just quiet because there's nothing to announce because the smaller developers are hard at work. As a computer science major, I'd love to think that such programs like Bungie Aerospace would exist to help me out if I join up with a smaller developer once I graduate. Everyone has to start somewhere right?

if ( !now ){ when(); }

Yeah, im guessing once Bungie's focus switches from development to suppot we will see more activity from Bungie Deadspace.. err Aerospace.

Questions about this in the Mail Sack seem to be ignored. As much as I hope they are just keeping whatever they do have secret, it seems that Aerospace might be dead.

Let's hope for the former. Then again, all the signs do point towards the latter.

I sure do hope something neat comes from Aerospace soon.

I am begining to think that this was dropped in favor of "Destiny". I used to think that there was a tie in between the two but I dont believe that to be the case anymore.

I was thinking this too. I thought Crimson was relatively successful as well but it seems like they reached a certain point then just didn't mention at all ever again. I wonder if it has something to do with Activision contract...

They made the Activision Contract long before they announced what Aerospace was if memory serves, I doubt that it was the problem.

They're clearly hoping we'll forget about it and will let it fade quietly into the night from what I can tell.

I would guess its just a hiatus during Destiny crunch time. We'll probably see more Aerospace in the future.

Still feel that "Long Night of Solace" was a testing ground for Bungie aerospace though.

Yep i think the same, moreover with Marcus leaving i'm convinced that Bungie focuses all effort on Destiny. Maybe it'll explain why Aerospace seems to be dead...

...A level in their AAA game was the testing ground for resources that give smaller developers a chance to make their games known?

So start hawking those T-shirts you all had to have on eBay, since they will be Bungie memorabilia collectibles!

It's a shame but the evidence in terms of lack of development news and inactivity on the twitter feed do lead to the conclusion that Aerospace has been abandoned. If it hasn't been abandoned then its definitely been quite neglected.

ooga booga boooh

Who knows, maybe the true glory of it will be shown when we see Destiny, and then a slew of games thereafter.

Probably true, but puzzling that they'd launch such a program with limited support and resources in the immediate time frame? Who knows. Maybe there's things cooking in there too. We'll wait and see I suppose.

I think Bungie is a bit too busy with their own baby on the way to be birth coaching another dev.

I don't remember reading anywhere in the contract Bungie and Activision signed allocation resources to Aerospace.

You wouldn't have, because Aerospace isn't part of that contract or a part of the Bungie-Activision relationship, IIRC. Was there any clause in the contract that would preclude Bungie from allocating resources to something other than Destiny? If not, then they are probably permitted to manage their resources as they fit, provided that they meet the deadlines that are in the contract.

No programmer can pick up a TV remote without thinking what it would take to add a stun gun. [...] Their motto is 'if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features yet

They just haven't marketed it very well. so they haven't been approached by any developers.

They wouldn't have launched aerospace if they knew that destiny would get in the way. Destiny has been in the works since odst. so at the time that aerospace was announced Destiny must have been going full tilt.

Yea, it seems to me like Aerospace is completely dead or we would have heard something about it.
